Unpretentious, simple, fast and cheap. These are words that scare away certain people – but those people are weak. those people will die cowards when it comes their time to face death. Walk by during the afternoon and you’ll see a dude behind a bbq grill with a charred set of tongs flipping chicken carcasses across the flames. There’s a giant fan set up next to his cooking station blowing the scent of spiced meat directly into traffic. This is a taco hut. It looks messy, it looks questionable, but it smells delicious. That’s because of the metric ass-load of spices that have been slowly baked onto the chicken meat, marinating at a cellular level with the chicken’s own juices. All of this happening while the carbon char, or «black gold», of the grill sediments onto the bird’s crisping edges. There’s a very«soul-food» feeling when eating here, and I think that’s because the food isn’t «simple» in the sense that it’s bland or boring, but rather that it is honest. It’s a meal you can sit down to and not worry about whether you’re going to have a «foodie experience;» not worry about what you paid; not worry about immediately taking your instagram food selfie. You can just sit down, and enjoy the food simply and honestly.

Honestly this place is terrible I don’t even know how they have an «A» rating. The lady that works there makes it a bad experience. She seems super lost most of the time and does not even remember what you ordered. Do not waste your time here. It looks like it would be worth it but the chicken is plain and disgusting and like I mentioned earlier the service stinks. There’s plenty of other places for Mexican food. Try western and sunset. That place is way better than this garbage.

I stopped by on a Thursday evening and decided to try their half chicken with rice, beans, salsa and tortillas. The chicken had a really good flavor and overall the entire meal is really good and it’s better than El Pollo Loco. Parking: has a nice big lot in the back. Seating area: they have a nice outdoor and indoor area very clean as well. Down side for me: They charge you .50 cents to use your debit or credit card :(

Not bad for $ 0.99 tacos! The carne asada and al pastor were delicious and tender, but the carnitas was very dry. Chicken was average, good but nothing special. I would go back for the tacos out of convenience since I always pass by this place.

I really like the chicken and hand made tortillas. It’s priced reasonably too. I can eat the chicken all by itself without sides it’s that tasty. The grilled onion and jalapeño u get as a side are a perfect addition. I sometimes ask for more onion.

All i can say is Yummmm!!! Got 3 homestyle real asada tacos. Delicious and so reasonably price. This is my go to spot whenever i will be in the area. Not a fancy place but totally worth it.

You had me at charcoal. First off it’s obvious that you should only order the chicken here. Anyone complaining about the other tacos shouldn’t even be ordering them your only setting yourself up for disappointment. Now lets get back to the chicken… Yes yes and yes. If this place bumped up the quality of chicken and of their sides it would be unbeatable. I don’t mind if they raise the prices either. It seems cheap for what u get. If i was running this place i would only serve chicken and bump up the quality. Having just said that ill still come back and keep coming back until i get sick. Cant beat charcoal grilled anything!

Such a great grab and go or quick sit and chomp down to the bone chicken. Spicy rub on the crispy skin. This is a moist and juicy bird. 8 bucks and you get a half bird with rice, beans, tortillas and salsa. So frickin’ lovely. I highly recommend. Street bird in all its glory. This and Pollo A La Brasa are my two favorite places for quick tasty chicken.

I was driving by and spied the smoke coming off their barbecue so I knew I had to stop by sometime to check it out. They serve up traditional Mexican plates like tacos, burritos but seem to be known for their grilled barbecue chicken. You can dine on their outdoor patio but they also have an indoor room which on the two times I’ve been here, seemed empty. Most people take their foods to go or just eat on the patio. I’ve tried the tacos that are advertised as being $ 0.99 all day. They taste pretty good it’s just they kind of hold back on the ingredients. I’ve also ordered a whole barbecue chicken which was pretty good at $ 11.50. I enjoyed the smokey barbecue flavor. It was a bit charred but that’s what you’d expect from grilled chicken. I wouldn’t mind going back but you got to know that the order window is right next to the barbecue grill so that smoke tends to get on your clothes so I’d wouldn’t recommend stopping by before going out clubbing or to a party. Good cheap eats for everything else except the chicken.

Had their $ 1 tacos and they were amazing! The pastor and the carnitas were so juicy! I love street tacos and these were one of the best. The only thing I would fix it’s maybe a better red sauce recipe, and the option of avocado slice on the tacos at an extra charge. No frills. Just tasty food. Next time I have to try their bbqed chicken. Looks amazing and it’s probably their best item and main draw.

$.99 tacos everyday(asada, pollo, al pastor or carnitas). $ 7 half bbq chicken. $ 1.25 jamaica and aguas frescas. The tacos are okay, i’ve had better but you can’t beat $.99. No extra radish, no extra salsas, no extra cilantro/onions. The tacos do come with the green salsa and some fresh cucumbers. Half chicken… something similar to El Pollo but better. Also cheaper. Comes with freshly made corn tortillas and salsa. YES… you eat at this place for the chicken! The asada quesadilla was okay as well. Debit cards accepted. Sit inside or outside. They also have a restroom. Plenty of parking off Virgil.

Pretty good but definitely nothing special. The homemade tortillas are the best aspect. I thought the carne Asada had a nice flavor and was pretty tender but the pastor was DRY. Also, if you mosey inside to use the bathroom, be prepared to experience the LEAST amount of ambiance EVER. They could work on adding some art or at least a few more tables so it doesn’t look so damn depressing. There are tons of good taco spots in LA so it doesn’t really make sense to patronize the lame ones. I’d go elsewhere if I were you.

I have been day dreaming and mouth watering about this chicken for two years now and I must say I was very pleased to actually try them. If you haven’t noticed the large fan blowing perfectly spiced grilled chicken in your face then you probably should drive down Santa Monica more often. My friend and I shared half a chicken and we were beyond impressed. The flavorful, tender, juicy chicken peeled off the bone and the sides they provide are quite tasty as well. They have their own parking lot nearby and outdoor seating as well. Its a great authentic place to stop in and get a hot bite to eat.

Well I wished I had read the reviews before ordering something. This little shack with a man grilling chicken and lots of smoke, happens to be next door to my Dentist. They told me it was pretty good & while I had time before the appointment and had not eaten, we decided to give it a try. We ordered chicken tacos(because their special for the day — shrimp taco, they were either out or were going to take too long to make, which ended up being the tall tale sign of our long wait to eat) and sat down and waited, smelling the aroma of the chicken grilled smoke that was killing us. Verdict: Don’t order the tacos, they were not good and it just ended up being a waste of food and money. Drinks were kinda expensive too, $ 2.00 for a can of Diet Coke? Wow! And salsa just ordinary. From what I’m reading & hearing, seems like the safest and best bet would be the grilled chicken. And my Dentist and assistant’s told me that the chicken is all they ever get and are always satisfied. It’s an outdoor setting and little colored wooden picnic tables to sit on or a wooden counter with bar stools. They take Credit cards/ATM. Parking seems to be where my Dentist is located on Virgil. Will give it another try, only for the grilled chicken.
