Went here for lunch today. Cute spot. Not overwhelmingly busy on a Sunday which was nice. The salsa and homemade chips(made to order) are amazing! My cousin and I had the langastine, shrimp, carne asada and carnitas tacos. All were good. And he salad with he green goddess dressing was fantastic. I would go again. Jasmine was our waitress and she was kind.

Gluten free heaven. Tacos are small, order lots. Great tasting food. Cool little place with good atmosphere.

Gentrified Mexican food is a good way of describing it. I got a $ 12 dollar shrimp burrito that would’ve cost $ 7 for a larger version elsewhere. Good food, but not enough to validate the small portions and high prices.

The chips, salsa & guac are amazing. Between the 2 of us, we had 2 baskets of chips. We started off with Iced Teas and those tasted great as well. I hate it when resutaurants have terrible iced tea. The service here is very fast, and the waitress was on top of her game. After bringing us iced teas, chips and salsa, she came back to take our order right away. We ordered quite a few tacos, and I also had the Carne Asada Burrito/without the refried beans. It was a very nice day so we asked to be seated outside. The tables are actaully very small you cant put much on there unless you push two of them together. It’s located on very busy street, so expect there to be endless cars driving by… and if you dont want to be see by someone you know, don’t sit outside lol. Definitely one of my favorite places for mexican food now.

This place was great. The staff was awesome and the food was the best I’ve ever had. Ever. So authentic. Our chips were warm and crispy, as if they were just made. The guacamole and salsa– just ugh. Never had better. We grabbed churros for dessert and they were so fluffy I almost died. They come with chocolate sauce too. Honest truth, if you have time go check this place out, You’ll leave feeling so satisfied and full.

Taqueria Escuela is a cute, little restaurant near The Grove Farmer’s Market. It serves some delightful Mexican fare and is pretty affordable too. You pay per taco/item so you pay for exactly what you want and you don’t get any extras. The friend I came with recommended the ribs taco. While this is not what I would have ordered, I listened and they were great. Loved them. I also ordered a side of elote(corn). It was basically corn on a cob with butter, cheese, and some seasoning. It was good, but wasn’t anything fancy. The service was nice too. The ladies were friendly, attentive, and did they job well. FYI, parking for this place is non-existent. There is only street parking in the area. Right in front of the restaurant on the main street are some metered stalls, but if you walk 2 – 3 minutes from the restaurant around the corner there is free street parking. I’m not often in the L.A. area but this place is worth a stop if you are near. FYI: Chips and salsa are not complimentary. They are affordable but don’t expect them as you are seated.

Just down right delicious! the Lobster tacos are everything and more with the tender lobster meat and butter with cabbage it is purely perfect in its simplicity. I also have to go for the OG Beef taco because they know how to bring it with the slow braised beef and cheddar cheese combo. The chips and guac are the bomb and the salsa is fresh and spicy. We like to order a side of pickles to shove into the OG even through its meant for the other beef and pickle taco but i find that one to be a tad too greasy for my taste. The Churros are so light and fluffy that I can’t share !

It’s pretty good! If you feel like fancy tacos, then check it out. They also have breakfast tacos that are also pretty good as well. Also, they have breakfast tacos and burritos on weekends. Those are pretty good too. Basically: This is a hipster taco place. If you’re looking for super authentic mexican tacos this place ain’t for you. But, if you want a more foody-ish taco experience you’ll enjoy it. The guac and chips is out of this world good.

I am writing sadly this review after being a long time patron of this establishment. For years I have dined here and have enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the service. However, recently I have noticed, like several others, that this place as been on a steep decline as of late. The food isn’t as fresh, the portions seem to be smaller and the staff seem to be increasingly rude. Tonight I came here on a date and have to say that this may be my last time. I thought this a month ago when I ate here and found a hair in my taco but I decided to give it another shot since I had been here dozens of times over the years and had no problems. Recently I’ve noticed that the staff act like they’re doing their patrons a favor by doing their job and serving. Any request for water, chips, even placing an order seems like you’re asking them for the biggest ordeal. Here is an example: Tonight I witnessed a waitress ask a group to wait outside because they ordered food to go. Then later this same waitress told two girls that she couldn’t serve them a birthday treat because her boss was near. They pleaded with the waitress and she said she couldn’t do anything. Finally she decided to put their cupcakes on plates for them but not give them candles or sing to them… just deliver the treat that they brought in on a plate… I’m sure she charged them some sort of service fee. This is only one small aspect of my annoyance with this restaurant. It used to be such a great spot to gather for tacos and enjoy the evening. However, sadly, it has turned into another los angeles pitstop where no one cares and they just rely on people to walk in so that they can belittle them and serve mediocre food at a steep price. Unless this place goes back to old management or a new owner, I would recommend going down the street to the better taco establishment.

Great service. I went with my Deaf friend and the waitress was super sweet and used the signs she knew to communicate. Food was good… I had the Chorizo con Huevos. Portion was a little smaller than expected but not bad. Nice ambiance and attentive staff.

The carne asada and carnitas tacos were good, the chicken taco was dry. The service was AWFUL. The staff barely acknowledged us as we came in then we’re standing to the side as we waited for someone to approach our table to greet us or take our order. We practically had to grab a random waitress as she wandered past our table. We asked if we could order and she just said«ok.» She did not write down anything so I gave our order of chips and guacamole and three different tacos and repeated it twice. She then wandered off again and ten minutes later she brought out the tacos, no chips and guacamole, and wandered back to the register area where she buried her face in her cell phone. The chips never arrived but at that point the vibe of the place was so unappealing I was ready to leave as soon as we ate the tacos. There has to be a good taco spot or even just a taco truck that serves good tacos and the servers are even remotely competent or put any effort into their jobs.

OK … So I really hate leaving bad reviews but sometimes it’s necessary. My second experience here. First experience, OK. Neither here nor there — a burrito to go… Ordered take-out tonight: Strike 1: Chips(for my $ 8 chips and salsa) were under cooked/chewy Strike 2: THEWAS A REALLYLONGHAIRINMYHUSBANDTACO. Ew. Really?! Strike 3: Called to let them know and the guy on the other end of the phone was like ok, well next time you come in you won’t have to pay for it. No, like«sorry this usually never happens» or «wow, bring it in and we’ll remake it»…wtf? FOR $ 50 tacos, I would have expected more. So disappointed & so grossed out we’re just going to the taco truck down the road tonight. Woof! I wish you the best of luck if you go down here because it’s really a roll of the dice on what you’ll get from this place…(or in your taco)

Quick shoutout to our waitress who was awesome at handling the tables including some entitled diva people next to us. Everywhere on the strip was busy. This was busy but not as packed as the others. Very reasonable Mexican food. Peter and I had 4 tacos for $ 14. The chicken and the beef were nicely spiced. My only complaint is that the fried beef taco was s bit too greasy. They should’ve just given the shell a quick pat down before serving. Hipster bar ambiance.

Well what I can say. The tacos were off the hook! Very tasty and fresh. Everything taste home style. The waiters are attentive and nice. I had the chips and salsa. Ammmmmmaxing salsa. One of the best I had in a long time. They also have amazing Guacamole! The chips that come with it are also fire. I also tried the chicken tacos. Perfection! The chicken is jidori with in house marinade, cilantro and onions. I had to try the Carne Asda. Which was grilled steak cilantro and onions with a huge piece of avocado. On top of those tacos I got a side of rice that tasted just like my moms! Each taco order comes with two tacos. They are a little bit bigger than street tacos. This place is great. The price of food could be better. It’s pricey for lunch. Too bad they don’t have a lunch deal. Two thumbs up!

Rip. Off. Long story short: we ordered two 10 dollar chicken burritos with extra chicken. No problem spending the extra 2 bucks for each extra chicken. Gentleman tells us after we order, «ummmm sorry, we ran out of the big burrito tortillas today and we only have the little ones… we have to put the extra chicken on the side». Sure. No problem pal. We get home: both burritos are EXTRAEXTRASMALL. Think size of a taco. The moron charges us full price for both burritos, plus 2 dollars each for chicken. We got 2 taco sized burritos with extra chicken on the side. And spent 31 bucks(add in the crappy Elote for good measure) . We got ripped off. If you are going to cut the burrito size in half, cut the price in half… or toss me the extra chicken for free. Be more customer centric and smart. Don’t make me pay full price for half the food. Each burrito had 1 sliver of avocado and 3 pieces of chicken. Rip. Off. We will not be coming back. PS your chips suck. Garbage.

I hear amazing things about these tacos. Unfortunately I thought that wasn’t completely true. Everything I had tasted extremely salty. Too salty. I know tacos are salty in nature but this was over the top. Also the set up was a little annoying. There was no one to take your name or no place to write a name down so you just had to rely that the hostess saw you enter before other people. It’s nice you can bring your own alcohol. And I also liked the flavors of the tacos, minus the salt.

While I am hesitating to give this place a three or a four star review, I have to tell you that the chicken tacos were beyond delicious. As you can read from previous reviews, they do charge for chips and salsa, three dollars. We opted to have the chips and guacamole for eight dollars. Not sure how I feel about paying for chips as this was the only Mexican establishment that serves chips and charges for them. However, their chips is Mama Mia! They are really good but still should be complimentary with your meal! The chicken tacos were absolutely amazingly delicious. They serve Mexican sodas for three dollars each. So, my final opinion is I will not be dining here again only because they are a lot more money than average other Mexican restaurants. While they are above average in comparison to most Mexican restaurants, I don’t think it’s worth the extra money. If you are looking on Unilocal and this is the only thing close to you that is open and you are in the mood for Mexican and don’t care about price, this is the place for you! Bön appétit!
