Espressamente Illy

Decent selection of European inspired coffee beverages. On a hot day, it’s tough to beat the cappuccino greco. Just be aware that due to the mixing in the blender, the drink likely won’t fill the entire glass.
Otherwise, good spot to grab a quick breakfast at the hotel.

Overall great customer service, but too expensive in my opinion. I ordered a Blue Hawaiian lychee lemonade and was given a «free» fish bread treat and my total was almost $ 7 for a medium cup drink. Was the fish treat not free? Did I like break something while I was there? On top of that, my drink was way too sweet! Might go back someday and try something else, I don’t know. But Starbucks continues to be my coffee house of preference by far.

So sad to give Illy a one star –but they deserve it. I love illy coffee and have had it elsewhere and this place is definitely serving a watered down version of illy or the barista just didn’t know how to use the espresso machine. So many things not going well for this place:
*No «to stay» cups –we even asked and the barista was rude when responding and said they never have stay cups, and handed us our drinks in paper cups.
*Drink not mixed well. I got an illy’s version of a mocha and top half was milk foam. Then watered down coffee. Then way at the bottom was about an inch of chocolate syrup, not mixed, and too sweet to drink. Very disappointing. The americano we ordered tasted like stale instant, watered down coffee.
I get so excited when I see restaurants that serve illy –knowing that they have very flavorful coffee. Well, not in this case. I don’t understand how the barista was able to ruin the taste of Illy.
Sadly, this place isn’t a true representation of what illy coffe tastes like.

I was walking on lunch time on colorado blvd in pasadena, crossing Illy truck that the lady gave me free iced coffee. I really liked the taste its not too strong and its only 110 calories.

We love Illy coffee and have sampled it around the world. Not sure what happened here but this tasted off. Maybe it was too early for the baristas to make a good cup which means visiting east coasters are out of luck no matter how happy they might be that a coffee shop is open at such an early hour.

I was staying in the Marriott and made the mistake of stopping here, servers where less than friendly coffee was mediocre, as well I am. Suspect they did not get my order correct. A bottle of water and a cup o coffee cost $ 10.

This is absolutely the worst Illy I have ever been… The cappuccino tastes like some cheap brewed coffee…

Spent $ 40 on 5 cups of coffee and 3 desserts. This place is definitely overpriced. Both vanilla lattes came out luke warm. How does this happen? When they were told that it wasn’t hot the response we got was quite funny. «Did you just want us to put it in the microwave?» This practice should only be done at home. Another person from our party asked them to remake them since they don’t know how to operate the business.
Anyways, everyone complained about their lack of caffeine present in their coffees. There was absolutely none, just a lot of sugary sugar at the bottoms of the cup.
The only good thing about this place was the caramel cheesecake.

***This Espressamente Illy is located in the JW Marriott LA LIVE lobby; I canot speak for their coffee, but their hot chocolate had a very faint chocolate flavor; you can get a significantly better and creamier cup of hot chocolate with the high quality commercial self-​serve machine in this hotel’s Executive /​Concierge Lounge (for Marriott Rewards Gold and Platinum members staying at this hotel); prices were slightly high but no surprise given this coffee shop’s location; service was good***
Parking in this area is very expensive. Most pay parking lots are at least $ 10 per vehicle though you can find a few that go $ 5 at certain times.

Thank you for this place jw Marriott. Illy coffee is phenomenal and smooth. i stumbled upon this place 2 years ago, and am so proud they serve illy. As for all you limited Americans who love burned beans Starbucks, I am smirking at you for saying Starbucks quality is even near that of the prized Italian illy coffee. simply smooth and delicious Italian coffee. Period. PS froo froo drinks aren’t coffee, if Starbucks stopped serving all those drinks and just coffee, they would be a bust. long live illy and this place!

A gourmet coffee bar that isn’t a Starbucks? Color me happy! Don’t get me wrong, I am a slave to the ‘Bucks, but variety is indeed the spice of life. I was happy to see our hotel’s lobby seemed to think outside the box when offering up treats and delights to their customers.
What I should have known is that this coffee bar is one more way this pricey fancypants Marriott adds another $$$$ feature to the mix. I’m an iced coffee girl, and as I perused the menu, I was disappointed to see only 3 iced options, none of which sounded overly imaginative or intriguing. Ok so they aren’t a frou frou operation, they’re all about the grind as it were — I can dig it. So I ordered their medium Cappuccino Greco (espresso blended with milk over ice) — or at least I tried to order it. The two ladies working the bar were so caught up in their conversation with a customer, that was absolutely not about coffee, it took a good 3 – 5 minutes for them even to acknowledge I was standing there — but trust me, they knew. I hate snobbery of any kind — my money is just as good as any millionaire’s, I just don’t have quite as much of it. Customers are people who CHOOSE to give you their hard-​earned money for your goods — respect should be paid. Finally I ordered my coffee from my grumpy server, $ 4.90 for a medium which isn’t unreasonable. I also inquired about their muffins — they had no food menu anywhere, just a listing of the generic term «Sweet Treats» and a few prices. Though 5 types of muffins were displayed, she named 3. Okeydokey — I played it safe with a classic blueberry. $ 8 later up in my room, I drank a coffee that was massively watered down by the disproportionate scoop of ice, and munching a mediocre muffin.
I know some folks say coffee is just coffee, but it can be a lovely experience, a sublime way to start the day or a perfect pick-​me-​up in the p.m. hours. When no love goes into my coffee’s preparation, when I feel like I’m bothering an employee by placing an order, what’s the point? I would have been better off just brewing up the free stuff in my hotel room. Right outside the hotel lobby door is a giant Starbucks full of friendly smiling baristas who will serve you up the flavors you love — I highly suggest you spend your dollars there, millionaire or otherwise.

Wow, is this place overpriced or am I trippin? Illy is located in the lobby of the JW Marriot. It’s a better alternative to Starbucks, but expect to pay more for that slightly better quality. I ordered the Half & Half Summer (half chocolate and half expresso) which was one of the few cold drinks they offered on the menu. I asked for a medium and it came out to about $ 6, for a cup that wasn’t even fully filled. The drink was decent, and the chocolate is VERY PROMINENT. It tasted like STRAIGHT CHOCOLATE MILK.
No line, fast service, decent coffee.

Located inside the Marriott. I live next door at the Ritz so this place is very convenient. Been here a number of times. In and out pretty quick. Usually a short or no wait. I think the longest line I’ve ever been in here was maybe a handful of people? Always available seating inside the little coffee shop or at the tables right outside in the Marriott lobby.
Service varies. Some good, some could be better. Never had anyone rude. But you can tell one of the employees doesn’t really like her job.
I’ve only had the drinks here. Never tried the food. My two favorites are the half & half summer illy (half espresso, half chocolate) and the mocha iced coffee. They’re the perfect amount of sweet.

I love the desserts. Not a coffee drinker, but the interior design is fashionable. I like the ambiance, packaging, and delivery of goods from server to the customer. Store is small, and the seats aren’t the most comfortable, but that’s what the 4 – 5 star Hotel lobby is for. Location is a gem, and they maintain quality of ingredients for great taste.
I came here during store closing to buy a dessert for my sisters birthday. I don’t remember the cashiers name, but he had a lot of free time. He went out of his way to close the shop late because he wanted to wrap all the tiny boxes with lots of extra love. I felt bad to ask him to speed it up. My particular server loved his job, and took satisfaction in making my day great. I felt like a guest here, and recommend this place. Service was above and beyond. Thank you. I warrant this as a premium brand. Its a shame I cant afford to spend my working dollars here regularly. keep up the good work.

Good sandwiches and coffee.
Favorite would be the tuna sando with tomato and lettuce.
Then the chicken avocado wrap with alfalfa sprouts but close behind is the prosciutto sando w/​cheese and rocket.
The yogurt with fruit isn’t a bad option either. I’m not sure if they usually have it, but the chocolate chip cookie was pretty solid.

The selection is not very big, but my espresso was good. The reason for only 2 stars is because the staff was beyond rude. I will not be back simply for that reason.

I had forgot this was here. Tucked inside the J.W. Marriott it is easy to look past. I am glad I remembered. The coffee is as good or better than Starbucks. It is priced similarly. The service is good. You get all of that without the tragically long lines of the Starbucks next door.

I frequented this place during my stay at the JW Marriott for the Zumba Instructor Conference in February. Their sandwiches are AMAZING! So fresh and filling, which was perfect for lunch in the middle of my workout days. I scarfed down the tuna sandwich, the caprese sandwich, and the prosciutto sandwich (on different days of course). I also enjoyed an iced mocha. Their desserts looked decadent as well, though I chose not to indulge in any. I highly recommend Espressamente Illy to anyone staying at the JW Marriott Hotel, or even if you’re in the L.A. Live area, it’s worth dropping in!

Good option to the always crowded Starbucks. The coffee is better at Illy’s but their patented machine produces a weak cup. I’m guessing the water temperature is off as this location has really weak espressos.
Service was good and they are friendly. There’s a wider selection of Illy coffees sold here versus the grocery store variety.
Not bad for chain coffee!
