Meh, this is your general Kogi knock off. worse of all is that they’re serving you what is, I think, a travesty of a taco size. I mean, these things are half dollar sized pieces. And I second what others have said. You leave me 1 tortilla per taco? What sort of amateur hour taco maker is that? Here’s the deal, you give to tortillas per taco so that you can pick up any dropped pieces when you first try to eat it., Then again, considering how small these suckers are and how lacking in filling they are, I guess a second tortilla would just umask the fact that you have nothing left to pick up in such a small sad attempt of a taco. Burritos on this truck are fairly cheap. I suppose that’s the route to go. Though I’m not sure how well they’ll stuff it or if you’ll get a lot of filler. Over all, this kogi knock off is just about that. It’s like getting RC Cola when you asked for a Coke. Yeah, I guess it’ll work for sugary thirst quenching but it’s something you’ll be going into begrudgingly. Unless you have to have some sort of Kogi style taco, I would say skip this truck.

Ah, I gotta say, I like Kogi better, but this provides a good alternative when the Kogi truck isn’t around. Fire Hook is more often in Westwood than Kogi is. I ordered two of their tacos when I was wandering around Broxton one evening. They taste good and are okay.

I too am surprised by the low rating & thought I would show my support. I can’t speak to the meat items but I absolutely love their tofu taco. Their special sauce has just the right amount of kick and I find the staff to be some of the friendliest of the truck food slingers. Go Fire Hook!

I have no idea what a «Fire Hook» means or refers to but just know that this is a generic Kogi truck serving tacos, burritos and quesadillas. That I can tell, it does not have a website so I don’t know how to track this sucker but I found it at the Lawndale’s Farmer’s Market — which takes place every Wednesday at 147th and Hawthorne in Lawndale. I was in a rush so I opted for two tacos($ 2/each) and they told me they’d be ready in TWO minutes. ??? FAST! You get your choice of short rib, chicken teriyaki, spicy pork and tofu. I ordered one of the short rib so that I could compare to Kogi’s and the truck recommended the chicken. I find the meat to be very plain and underseasoned. There’s not enough oomph or marinade or sauce. However, I do like Fire Hook’s toppings way better. The slaw is cleaner tasting, fresher and adds a nice crunch. I’m going to try some quesadillas and burritos next time. Just for kicks. Because they don’t get enough business at the Lawndale’s Farmers Market.

Pretty standard price and size for a burrito. What I liked is that the tofu in the burrito got some special treatment, like tofu deserves. A lot of times, tofu is just tossed in a burrito or taco like it’s supposed to be good on it’s own. The vegetables tasted crisp and fresh, too. I’d asked for a medium amount of spice, which I don’t think it quite achieved. Maybe 3 stars would have done, but the extra star is because I like an underdog in the crowded world of Korean taco food trucks.

Has anyone else noticed that there sure seem to be a lot of taco trucks prowling the yuppy westside streets lately? Blame the LA taco truck fusion craze which, as a westside yuppy, I am fully on board for.(did I really just call myself a yuppy? wow.) Anyway, as a fan of street food & ethnic cuisine this newest LA trend is right up my alley. I’ve made it my own personal quest to identify LA’s best taco trucks, and Fire Hook is by far the best Korean taco truck I’ve tried. Yes, hands down better than Kogi. Calbi doesn’t compare either. Now, admittedly, I haven’t tried all of their offerings(which is why I’m limiting my review to 4 stars). But the short rib taco was so perfect– tender beef with just the right marinade — that I can easily declare it the winner. And the spicy sauce… oh, the spicy sauce… so good you’ll groan. My cousin and I decided to do a taco truck comparison Friday night so we headed to Abbott Kinney where they all seem to congregate(those fusion trucks know where to find yuppies alright). Fire Hook was the first one we tried, and it was easily the best bite of the night. Could have done without the sprinkle of cheese on top, but nevertheless they were so good we went back for seconds on our way home. And while at $ 2 for a taco they are twice as expensive as their Mexican brethen, it’s still a deal. The service was great too. The Korean man operating the truck was extremely nice and he gave us each a piece of Kimbap(Korean-style sushi) for free. Fire Hook is definitely a truck I’d go out of my way to find. Next time I’d like to try the spicy pork and chicken, but it’s the short ribs I’ll return for over and over again.

I think my nose smelled this truck from afar. I’m usually too lazy to step out of the building to get lunch but today I was STARVING. So I started heading towards Shelly’s Café for one of their awesome philly cheese steaks =d but saw this truck on Hollywood Blvd. I debated with myself and well, I’ve never really had an authentic korean bbq taco/burrito item so I thought I’d give it a shot. At $ 5 for a burrito, I decided I did NOT need another $ 5 kimchi quesadilla with my short rib burrito haha… must…save…up…for the glorious pigging out in Vegas next month X)! I don’t know which of the trucks I got but I liked them =) A nice lil Korean lady took my order and the burrito came out pretty fast. Everything in my burrito looks evenly distributed and is very tasty. It’s NOT spicy at all but I did see a tube of possibly spicy orange goo next to the drinks. I do not see cheese in my burrito but there are black sesame seeds, cubed potatoes, small diced egg pieces, tomatoes, kimchi, lettuce and yummy short rib =d The burrito came to me cold, which I didn’t expect. Maybe if it was hotter, the cool veggies would taste even better. Luckily, I learned from the Frankie fiasco and grabbed a plate before I started eating, there is a puddle of water on my plate right now… haha Would I get the burrito again? No, there’s too much flour tortilla for me. But in their defense, a regular burrito has too much flour tortilla for me =P I’ll probably try their tacos next time… mmmm corn tortillas… now THAT’S what I’m talkin about =d

So happy to have happened upon this truck quite serendipitously on Abbot Kinney. Had a quick short rib taco, and it was fantastic. Meat was very well seasoned, taco was steaming fresh, and the pickled veggies had a great acidity to counter the heat and sweet of the meat. Having eaten my way across the LA area for several days, I’m surprised to say this is the one thing i still find myself craving… Where do i sign up to do one of these in NYC?!?

I am surprised this place has such a low rating.. . maybe there are two different trucks with the same truck labels? We were on Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice, CA on a Saturday night and there were two Korean taco trucks. We tried both and this one was the better one by far. We had beef taco and spicy pork taco. Compared to the other truck parked just across the street, this truck’s tacos had more contents, and had yummy kimchi. The best part, they were $ 2 /taco. Definitely will return. Oh, and a sidenote. I don’t know if this makes any difference. My boyfriend asked them to make it as Korean as possible. So they didn’t include lime and some other stuff they at first asked us if we wanted to include. The tacos turned out nice and spicy and yummy:).

This truck is my least favorite of the trucks. I just had a chicken burrito it was gross because the chicken was very bad quality, i had to take most of the chicken out! also; as i was taking all the chicken out i realized the ingredients were not what they were on the menu– and that is NOT ok. i had a beef taco which was so so. Calbi truck i think is much better.

Just had my first Fire Hook taco this past weekend! it was by far the best I had!!! got the tofu and terriyaki chicken taco… meat was well marinated and not too salty unlike the other trucks… what had me hook was the spicy pepper and spicy sauce. I LOVED It!!! mouth was a bit on the firing side but it hit the spot! i heard the owner telling the previous customer her hot peppers come straight from Korea where its grown… true or not I’m looking for them on Twitter! oh, only thing I didn’t like was portions was too small :-(I would need to pay $ 20 to fill me up!

worst taco truck ever! was so excited to try the korean taco truck thing takin l.a. by storm, but was so disappointed. usually, you get 2 tortillas per taco order. here you get 1. no meat, vegetables were bland… thought there was supposed to kimchee on it??? it was the SMALLEST most GARBAGALICIOUS taco i have ever eaten. called the owner and got some bone-head employee. the bone-head said that the owner runs 2 trucks and the 3rd one i ate at is rented by someone. it was awful and they didn’t care. i asked him for the 3rd truck guy’s phone number and they didn’t know it…

My friend was in town from NY, and neither of us had ever tried the Korean BBQ taco trend. We just happened to run across this truck while we were out at a nearby lounge. The ajumma was soft spoken and very sweet :) The kalbi taco was good, but much better with the amazing creamy & spicy hot sauce. I have to agree with Daniel L, the lettuce & tomato were a bit unevenly distributed, but it’s ok cuz they’re small, so you don’t notice that much :/ If I ran across it again, I’d probably grab one.

clearly jumped on the bandwagon of korean tacos but don’t have it together. spicy pork meat itself was good but as a taco, it was pretty bad. full review of this and other food trucks w/pix on my site. ugh…

The ongoing saturation of Korean taco trucks in LA has finally hit bottom. I found this K-taco truck parked in Westwood Village and decided to give them a try. I was anticipating a spicy hookup since the menu was flirtatious enough to spell out a good listing of tacos, burritos, sandwiches, and quesadillas. In the end however, my order of spicy pork burrito was an enigma at best. The warm, semi-stiff tortilla had the concept of Chinese moo shu written all over while the fillings that included spicy pork, romaine lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes were distributed unevenly. This caused the top portion of the burrito to fill with air, a mouthful of spicy pulled pork in the middle, and the lettuce to clump at the bottom. I was anticipating some forms of Korean hot sauce in the pork but was surprised by a rather generic barbeque sauce instead. The meat was spicy enough but the taste did not ignite a spark as the hookup was a short lived one-nighter. For $ 5, my burrito was half the size of an El Farolito suiza, leaving the hopes for a delicious cheap alternative in Westwood a far fetched ideal in the end.
