We were so looking forward to trying this place. I ordered the Cuban sandwich. It was served to me with three thin slices of lunch meat — like ham on it, and absolutely no pork, which it was suppose to have. I tried to send it back but was told that oh yes, there was indeed pork in it — that the servings are portioned out before they are cooked. I was not paying for the meal, and everyone I was with was nearly through with theirs, so I didn’t dispute it further. My husband ordered a burger and it came with no onion, no fries that were suppose to accompany it, and it was very dry. The burger alone was $ 18. The food was terrible and overpriced. The water that comes before the meal came in a pretty, decorative bottle, but tasted like it came from the tap. I ordered the bottomless mimosa for $ 18 — it was on a Sunday — and had to constantly ask for a refill when there were no waiters to be had. Needless to say, we will not be back.

Here’s the DL. Pricey, small portions, decent food. Ordered half dozen oysters — $ 18, short rib — $ 24, waffle fries — $ 9. The oysters were the of the midsize variety and they weren’t shucked too well as most pieces had cracked shells all over the oyster meat. But they did taste ok. Short rib was actually really good but you get 1 short rib for $ 24 on a bed of beans and rice. No sides, nothing. It wasn’t much of a main course. Then the waffle fries, which were good but again for $ 9, I expected more than a small basket of fries. Oh and I forgot, sloooooooow service.

I was pretty underwhelmed by this place overall. 3 stars max. First of all, the servers(or at least the 3 – 4 our group interacted with) are uninterested and not knowledgable. We had four vegetarians and two pregnant ladies in our group, and it took 3 servers and about 20 minutes to determine that there are NO mocktails available — just beer and wine. We were totally not upset at the fact that there were no mocktails — it was the time that it took and the apathetic attitude with which the servers did their job. They weren’t busy either — lots of standing around/idling going on. The food is really mediocre — some fresh stuff, but nothing special or out of this world. There is wayyy better stuff on Sawtelle than Flores and Sons. Have fun exploring!

45 minutes and TWO groups who sat down AFTER our group got their orders and I’m still waiting!!! THISISBEYONDRIDICULOUS!!! This is a company sponsored event and I will make sure we NEVERSPENDANOTHERDIMEHERE! Horrible service, inept staff, and food that is mediocre at best. Lots of other options on Sawtelle… DON’T EATHERE!!! UPDATE: Sooo…I finally got my sandwich(to go, of course), walked back to my office, opened the box, and it’s lunch meat. Yep, sliced basic lunch meat from Ralphs. Really guys? An hour for this? My co-worker got the Banh Mi. His response? «If it didn’t come out of a plastic container, it should have.» My other co-worker, who is Vietnamese said, «That’s not even close to a Banh Mi.» Shut down, revamp your menu, TRAINYOURSTAFF properly(I have no words for our simpering, patronizing waiter), and try again.

Good food good service, a little pricy but acceptable. In comparisons to it’s sister restaurants is not impressive. If you like pork chops, thats very nice choice

I’ve always been happy here. Lovely atmosphere. On my last visit, I came in at 5:00 for happy hour which, on Fridays, is allowed at the bar or patio only. But the patio was being used to film the reality tv show WAGS. What a trip. Fine by me. Sat at the bar and talked with super friendly female bartender, and Andrew, the bartender. What a personality he has. Great time talking… Had some really fresh and delicious oysters. Came with a great little vinaigrette. Also got the fried chicken. It was good but I’ve had better. On the HH, comes with one drum stick, a wing, and a thigh. Stuck with the HH menu this time but I only have great memories dining off the main menu. No backs on the bar stools. Boo.

Flores & Sons was a real treat. I made a reservation for me and date the morning of for dinner time. We sat on the back patio, worried that it would be chilly(~60F), but the heat lamps were plenty. Ambiance was fantastic. It was fully booked but the place never felt full or noisy. We only had appetizers and drinks, but that was plenty for us. The artichoke was really interesting: small halved-hearts, baked with a brie-like cheese(can’t remember what it was exactly), chives, and honey. Satisfying without being heavy and greasy. We had the dinner rolls with their nice salty butter. The waitstaff were so patient; came back frequently without pestering us. We were dining and took our time ordering. They got it… Overall, the place was clean, elegant in its own way with tasteful dish, cutlery, and glassware. Evening lighting was just warm without being too dark. It reminded me of an older country home in some ways that aims for understated/modest. The place’s personality seemed to have a core to it that put us at ease. I’m so glad I picked this place for our evening: I’ve walked by a dozen times without stopping in and will be back. NB: 5 stars are because I did not have any of the main entrées.

This place has a really good happy hour. Selected beers and other drinks are $ 5. Delicious raw oyster at $ 2 each. Crispy and tender fried chickens(3 pieces) are $ 9. I know people go to Sawtelle for Japanese food, but you might want to stop by at this place for few drinks before you hit your favorite Japanese restaurant. This place is a low-key neighborhood restaurant. The interior is chic and elegant. I love this place and will keep coming back. Hey dog owners, they have a comfy and dog friendly patio!

Really cute spot. Loved the ambiance. Service was pretty spot on as well. I was so excited to try this spot based on reviews and photos of biscuits and chicken and waffles. Food was not impressive. I wanted to really like it. Biscuit was hard, cold and even on the salty side. The chicken and waffles presentation was really nice but lacked some flavor and unfortunately one of my pieces was not cooked thoroughly but I’m not knocking them for that because fried chicken is tricky. I’d come back for maybe drinks because the place is really cute but wouldn’t be on my list for a meal.

How does this place have 4 stars?! This was probably one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. I came here with my boyfriend for dinner and we ordered the rotisserie chicken and tiger shrimp linguine. The chicken was dry and the vegetables and sauce that came with it was SOOOOO salty. The tiger shrimp linguine was even worse. We had to send the dish back because the linguine were all clumped together like glue. I don’t know how someone could even send out that dish in that state. When they brought the dish back out, the noodles were at least not clumped anymore but it wasn’t anything special. Definitely not worth the money. The ONE good thing I will say about this place is that the ambiance is very nice, and I like the fact that they have an outdoor patio. But other than that. the entire dinner was horrendous.

Really cute brunch or happy hour spot with a shabby chic décor(mismatched plates, etc). Note that brunch stops at 2 pm and they actually stop seating before that — luckily we had a 1:45 pm reservation because they tried to tell us the kitchen was closed when we arrived at 1:40 pm. Not a huge place so probably not great for a large group, but perfect for a small group. I had the kale salad with chicken, which was one of the better salads I’ve ever had. The chicken was delicious and there was just the right amount of dressing to add flavor without drowning the salad. The chicken costs $ 7 extra and brings the price of the salad to a pricey $ 17 — but I definitely recommend getting it with the chicken if you want to have it for an entrée. I also took a bite of my friend’s blueberry waffle and fried chicken, both of which were delicious. Not sure about lunch or dinner, but definitely recommend it for brunch!

We were looking for a brunch spot on Sawtelle last Sunday and decided to give Flores and Sons a try given that the menu looks appealing and the restaurant décor was cool. The place was busy but we did not have to wait to get seated. Here’s my breakdown: Food: 3⁄5 Nice brunch menu with all the favorites(e.g., different kinds of Benedict, chicken and waffle, croque monsieur). Flavored were quite average though. Drinks: 3⁄5 Bottomless mimosa and bloody mary available. Service: 2⁄5 Not the best service for us unfortunately. Hard to get the waiter’s attention and had to wait a long time for requested items. Parking: 2⁄5 It’s Sawtelle. Nuff said. Overall a fairly average brunch experience here. Not a place I crave to come back but could be a good option if nothing else come up.

Dog door/dog-friendly? CHECK Great patio? CHECK Delicious food with healthy options? CHECK This place is one of the few spots on Sawtelle that isn’t Asian cuisine. It’s a nice option to have — dog friendly, patio and has a good mix of American food with healthy options — salads, salmon, etc. cooked in a thoughtful manner with great flavors. I am a fan.

Fantastic brunch spot on Sawtelle. The service was great, they kept the mimosas coming, and the menu had a lot of great options. The fried chicken is fried with a somewhat interesting batter. It wasn’t as juicy as others I’ve had, but it certainly hit the spot. I ordered a biscuit on the side, and I’m not sure if it was just out sitting too long, but it wasn’t warm, it was a bit on the hard side, and it wasn’t flakey or buttery. It was just kind of mealy, crumbly and flavorless. Not the worst brunch I’ve had, but not the best either. Definitely a middle-of-the-road meal, though the service and the ambiance was fantastic.

Super cute patio, really lovely service, and overall a cool space. The food was kind of hit or miss. Farro salad — pretty, but ridiculously tasteless and disappointing. I thought maybe it was because I’d sampled other things that were rich and buttery, so I took it home to eat later. Opened it for dinner, took two bites, and threw it away. Still tasteless. Goodbye $ 13. Flores Omelette — rich, tasty, delicious Hillbilly Benedict — the biscuit was denser than expected, but overall this was good Also tried the mint tea and it was yummy and super minty and fresh.(As I suppose mint tea should be.)

First things first, why is there no AC here??? My friend and I came on a hot summer night and we were literally dying… we planned to hit up some bars after dinner but having makeup sweating off our faces ain’t cute. The food here was meh. We got the house rolls, fried oysters, and duck confit with gnocchi. My friend loved the house rolls – they were soft and warm – but for some reason I thought it had a weird taste to it. The brown sugar butter was delicious, though, but something just tasted odd… The fried oysters were pretty good, except they were super tiny. The duck confit was dry and the texture of the gnocchi wasn’t great. Gnocchi is supposed to be chewy, but these ones were soft and mushy. Overall I was pretty disappointed with the food here. Flores and Sons is located along Sawtelle so just street park anywhere nearby, parking shouldn’t be a problem.

To me, true chicken and waffles is served with chicken, ONTHEBONE. Not the«healthy» chicken breast option. They also have serve dark meat as well. I appreciated their version of chicken and waffles. At any restaurant I get excited when I see it on the menu. I automatically ask if a) it’s bone in chicken and b) they have dark meat. If any answer is a ‘no’ I get really disappointed. However, this place did not! The chicken was very juice and tender and the waffle was good too. We had two kids with us, they didn’t have a kids menu but they enjoyed the waffles.

When I see a restaurant categorized under«American,» I usually assume trashy food and lousy décor. This place has now lead me to believe great American dishes DO exist outside the realm of burgers and steak! So happy I took the recommendation from a friend. The plates are perfectly small, just enough to savor the taste but not SO much that it contributes to the obesity epidemic. I choose quality over quantity anyway. The dinner rolls with maple syrup is a MUSTTRY! I ordered it on a whim, I didn’t think it was going to surprise me– I just wanted something to nibble on as I waited for my spare ribs! Everything we ordered amazed our palates. The grilled corn was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I found the chicken casserole a bit too salty for my taste. My boyfriend loved his pork chops and said they were the best he ever had. I thought I was the best pork chop but I stand corrected! Party of 2 Ambiance: trendy/casual Favorite dishes: Dinner rolls, pork chop, spareribs Total bill: $ 73

The name has changed from Flores Ladies’ Gunboat Society within the last 2 months. It’s the black converted house across from B Sweet. The food is good but both times I’ve been here for lunch, service has been slo-o-o-w. I am surprised by all the reviews mentioning good service. Maybe they save it for the after work crowd. Prices for lunch are good. It’s not a large menu. I loved my bountiful farro and kale salad, as did everyone else who sampled it. It had a nice garlic kick. The fried chicken is very popular here. Those in my party who tried it rated it 3 ½ stars. Some people didn’t get enough chicken. We noticed though that the people at the table next to us who ordered chicken biscuit sandwiches after us had much bigger pieces. Also, you get fries or salad with the chicken and biscuit but on the first visit they were out of fries at 1 pm. 1 pm? Who oversees inventory? Our waitress was nonchalant about it as well. No salt and pepper at the table, either. What’s going on here? I had the fries with the chicken and biscuits for my second lunch. That and the chicken were very good but please lighten up on the salt. Though I do like fries with skin I must say! My friend really enjoyed her chicken and the farro kale salad. Good thing there is a bottle of water at table for all to share, given the slow service. I wish it were icy however. The bathroom was clean but smelled bleachy. You have your choice of two patios to sit on, with plenty of shade and space for breezes. One big plus is the music. One cool song after another. Can’t remember the last time I heard INXS’s «Don’t Change» :o) Also, it’s child and dog friendly. Despite my mixed review, the kale farro salad and its proximity to my home will keep me coming back.

Meh. That’s how I felt about Flores after happy hour. I heard that this place is on the pricier side, so when I got out of work early one Friday afternoon, I thought it would be great to try this place and also determine whether I would want to come here for a full meal. Even though it was a Friday afternoon, it was pretty slow so I got seated right away. It was so hot, so I opted for the patio seating. The patio is a good place for pet owners. I saw several dogs on the patio.(I saw the cutest corgi when I was sitting there). Our waitress was very nice and prompt, taking out drink and food order quickly. I decided to try their chicken and beer special on the happy hour menu. The fried chicken had 3 pieces, breast, leg, and wing. For the price I was paying(the combo was about $ 12), I thought the chicken would be amazing. But the chicken just was average. I mean it was obviously better than KFC, but I still thought it was just OK. I did like their spicy honey sauce. The honey was not watery and the spiciness had the right kick to it. I was going to order more items, but I didn’t order anything else as the chicken was rather disappointing. Maybe next time I will come back and try other items, which might be better. Overall, just based on the chicken, I give this place 3 stars.
