First time here, the service was excellent. Our waiter Steven was knowledgeable about the menu, and was great at suggesting some of the popular items from the menu. The pork buns were very good, in fact we decided to get a second round of those. We also tried the 4 taco special, 2 tamarind duck, smoked chicken, and spicy pork. All were delicious. The Duck confit Mac and cheese was also good and tasty. The only thing that wasn’t «mind blasting» was the truffle fries… But that was our fault. Steve suggested the asparagus. Next time I guess… Over all; the ambiance was pleasant, the service was excellent, and the food was delicious!

It’s alright. The buns weren’t delicious. The pulled pork is that dried pork floss thing… it has to be the worst bun I’ve ever had in my life. So dry. Dry on dry… The pork belly was okay. The lobster mac and cheese was good, but also, just alright. I would pass. There are other places more worth it I feel. Maybe we got the wrong things. Maybe I’ll try again another day, but until then, it’s just a-ok.

My Bestie brought us here for dinner late on a Monday night, it was perfect. Empty, quick service, the owner is awesome but i suspect its because she was with us and she is a regular here. Hey he gave us free SAKE! Loved all the tacos, I really want to try the lobster mac and cheese but end up being distracted by everything else. Definitely a great spot to grab some yummy food.

Being an avid Unilocaler and only in Los Angeles for a short business trip, I’m glad I followed the reviews to Flying Pig and their Duck Fried Rice. Everything I was looking for in my experience of Little Tokyo. High recommendation! Arriving at 5:30PM, the atmosphere was extremely quiet. My colleague and I were one of the few people in the restaurant. I couldn’t tell if it had anything to do with still being on an Eastern time zone or if this place was really that great of a hidden gem. Happy Hour goes till 9PM and has cheap beer, boa buns and taco deals /combos. The only reason I did not give Flying Pig 5 stars was that I thought their boa buns could have been hotter /steamed longer. I did appreciate the pork belly and Carolina BBQ buns — just not up to par with my favorite place back home.

I stopped by here on a Friday night at around 7:30pm. I thought we just missed the happy hour, but it turns out that their happy hour lasts a lot longer.(Woot!) I wasn’t sure what to expect because the restaurant was pretty much empty when we first sat… not a good sign. By the time we left, about half the place was filled, but still on the quiet side. Standard fusion Asian fare in very small portions. We tried the gyoza, buns, tacos, and ribs. Everything was decent but nothing that stood out to me. Great happy hour deals, but not happening enough. It would be a great place to hangout if it was just a bit more of a crowd pleaser.

One of my go-to spots for lunch in Little Tokyo. This place does have lunch specials, however, what keeps me coming back here time and time again is their $ 8 chicken bento box. It truly is a bang-for-your-buck item. Due to lent, I usually substitute the gyoza and get the seaweed salad instead. In hindsight, this is probably one of the best substitutions I have ever made in my life. Their seaweed salad is quite delicious. I also appreciate the fact that they serve the sushi in a hand roll and not cut roll. All in all, this is one bento box you can’t ignore. Also worthy of mentioning is their duck fried rice. After a few bites, and with the help of some siracha, you truly are soaring the skies on a flying pig.(Or maybe a duck.). See pics for both entrees. Service was good too. This place is definitely a keeper in my book.

Hmm should I have tried the buns or taco? I’ve been wanting to try this place when it’s a truck but there’s a brick and mortar place in Little Toyko. The Flying pig café is right across the street from Staples, shin sen gumi, quizno, you get the hint. It’s on Central and 2nd. So I quickly glanced at the menu, I ended ordered the spicy pork bowl. Verdict? It didn’t take to long for my food to come out … and got a glass of water in the meantime. Service was pretty awesome, even as a take out order. The taste of my food was good. Price of my meal was about $ 10, but the portions were so small! :(I kinda was a bit hungry after(wait, does that mean I’m a pig?) Noticed that there’s happy hour and they shared a space with a japanese/sushi(?) place. Maybe I’ll try something else. The price of the food kinda offsets the taste. I’m not sure if I’m willing to spend that much and still be hungry after. Like all the Little Toyko patrons — irked by parking issues — very limited street parking and some structures around.

Pretty good. They have a really good variety of fusion items like the tamarind duck tacos and carnitas tacos. The tacos as $ 2.75 and only come with one taco, so if you’re hungry. Be sure to order more than just one order. The boyfriend and I got the pork belly and the Carolina BBQ bau buns which were quite delicious. Each bun is $ 3.50 so again, if you’re hungry. Order more. The service is whatever. It’s not bad, but it’s not amazing. The music choice makes me feel like I’m clubbing somewhere with all the house/trance/whatever you want to call it. Definitely interesting.

The pork belly bun was the best item I had. I would say the Carolina BBQ bun was a close second but definitely something you would complement with it. The tacos were pretty tasty, I recommend the tamarind duck and carnitas. Shin sen gumi was packed so we decided to just cross the street and eat here. Pretty happy that I did. I have a new location in Little Tokyo to eat at. Definitely for drinks and late night fun next time.

Poutine. 4 stars: def not traditional poutine by any means but liked the pork belly and gravy on the pile of fries. But if I were them, I’d rename it as it doesn’t taste like poutine at all, though it was one of the better dishes. Lobster Mac and Cheese. 1 star: at least I found one piece of lobster meat in there but seriously? A good lobster mac and cheese needs lobster meat and good cheesiness that brings it all together. this one almost tasted like mayo and cheese. the cheese was absolutely watery and disgusting and the top wasn’t crusted like it should be. disappointing mess Spicy Pork Bun. 3 stars: The taste was all there but it ripped apart after the first bite. The side that it was sitting on was completely wet and fell apart. I had to eat it with a fork, which defeats the purpose. Burger and fries. 2.5 stars: Hubz says it was decent, not bad, but does not make his top five list. The patty was whatever and it felt like it was all about the toppings, which he doesn’t really appreciate. Honestly the Lobster Mac and Cheese brought down our experience. I think they’re much stronger with the land animals than with the seafood.

A little disappointing for happy hour, should of dodged this restaurant according to my friends, but I came to check it out anyway. It was dead for a Thursday happy hour night. We were the only ones at this restaurant at 6:30pm. Kimchi Ceviche — On the house — It was okay, nothing spectacular. Salmon sushi — DONOTGET. Was not fresh at all. Duck Taco + beer($ 5 — happy hour) — Duck taco was pretty good. Pork Belly Bun — Ok. I’ve had better. This whole dish felt like it was microwaved and sent to our table. The bun got a little hard after a few minutes, not soft and fluffy at all(how a bun should be!). Disappointed. Nothing stood out for me to come here again. Hopefully the food truck is way better than the restaurant…

I came here during Happy Hour… which is weekdays 5 – 7 and I got a $ 4 draft pint of Scrimshaw, which was really good. The tacos were 2 for $ 4 so I tried the tamarind duck and carnitas with peanut sauce. They were well made, had a lot of flavor. The duck came with a tamarind sauce that I haven’t had anywhere else! I also tried the lobster Mac & cheese and our server told us it was made with fresh lobster. It was delicious, and it had a good home made Mac & cheese taste! For dessert I got the honey brick toast which was a baked sweet toast with ice cream which was also really amazing. overall amazing experience! they also have cheap, good house wine for $ 5… pretty impressive!

I came here with my boss for lunch, the service was awesome !! Our server Mr. Higinio was awesome !! He was the solo server that day and he managed it just fine, it was pretty amazing !! About the food… Sticky ribs, The home made sauce they put on the ribs was perfect ! it was absolutely delicious. :) Duck tacos, the most beautiful taco I have ever seen, a orange on the top, tamarind sauce and almonds. It tasted as good as it looked. Carolina BBQ bun + Crunchy tofo bun, I really miss Asian steamed bread. Makes me fell like home. :) It’s a cute place. Thank you again Mr. Higinio for the great lunch experience.

I had low expectations for this place due to not great reviews from friends, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was typical food truck food. Very bold flavors. I went with my friend for happy hour and the tacos were 2 for $ 4 and buns were 2 for $ 5. We got 6 tacos and 4 buns, which I thought was going to be too much, but the tacos were pretty small, so that was just right. I think he could have eaten a little more. I agree with everyone that the carne asada taco was dry and charred. Not worth it. My friend said he wouldn’t get any of the tacos again(we had all the tacos on the menu). The duck wasn’t so bad, but nothing really stood out. The buns were pretty good. Crispy tofu had a good crunch and sauce. The slaw on one of the buns was too sweet and creamy, so I wouldn’t get that one again. Pork belly was good. The main draw was being able to sit outside on the patio and enjoying the cool summer evening. I’ll probably come back, just for the location and option of outdoor seating. Food was decent, but not the main attraction.

+Great place, wish the Unilocal reviews were more relevant!!! +Happy hour is awesome, good food, good beer, and good atmosphere! Try all the tacos and buns and anything with duck or lobster it’s so tasty! their ingredients are so fresh and the menu is well thought out! +Service is good could use some more people working, poor servers should get some back up to keep everything smooth! +Overall this place is a diamond in the rough… If this place keeps up what they are doing they will go far! Good luck!

We’d already had a few beers by the time we made it here, but we were eager for a couple more. Sat down outside and ordered a couple of beers. The gf’s beer was good, but mine was just eh. I didn’t say anything, but our server(her name was JJ) must have noticed that I wasn’t drinking much and asked me if I didn’t like it. I told her it wasn’t great, but I didn’t mind finishing it(I was already buzzed so at this point… it’s just alcohol). JJ insisted in getting me another, so I gave in. Needless to say, service was great and the food was pretty good, too. It’s not a Momofuku pork bun from NYC, but we haven’t found better in LA. Will definitely be back soon!

After reading thru many complains about this place, I think this so-called ‘worst place’ is worth a try. And it turned out to be not bad at all! The waitress is very polite n attentive, greeted us right away. I really like their décor, two flying pigs on the ceiling and a black wall with Chinese characters on the wall. So cute… ^^ Ok here is the food part. Their pork belly buns are SOGOOD! Bun was kinda originated in Asia, and as Chinese i can tell they use good quality flour to make buns. Hmmmm very juicy! I first ordered two but then added one more. My boyfriend ordered korean fried chicken. He said its not the best fried chicken he has had. We are not korean so we aren’t able to tell if its authentic or not. I ll def be back for their pork belly buns! Maybe try more food next time.

$ 2 draft beers(I believe your choices are stella and kirin) during happy hour(M-F 5 – 7). The actual happy hour menu is very limited compared to the one online. I got the $ 5 taco plate with a spicy pork taco, carnitas taco, and fries. Unfortunately the tacos were pretty disappointing. They were just cold and didn’t work very well. The fries however were delicious!!! They were so good everyone decided to order more after they tried one of mine. One of my friends ordered a veggie ramen and it was HUGE. The tofu kimchi burrito was really good too. Kimchi makes everything better. I think i would prefer to just go to the Alibi Room for asian/mexican fusion, it’s cheaper and I haven’t been disappointed anything there yet.

I’ve never been to the Flying Pig truck so I have no comparison. But from the restaurant menu, it seems like a typical asian fusion restaurant. I came with Nicole L. to celebrate her 22nd birthday! Yay! However to our disappointment, food was really… whatever. I expected a lot more. We ordered: Roasted Brussel Sprouts + Sausage — I buy microwaveable BSprouts from Trader Joe’s at half the price that really taste about the same. Pork Belly Bun: this was definitely delicious though! spicy and the pickled red onions were a nice touch. This was my favorite. Seafood Soup + Udon: They didn’t give us udon(ramen) but that’s okay. It was more of a spaghetti. The soup itself was good, lots of seafood. But honestly for the price point, I expected it to be better. Some pear salad: I don’t like my salads sweet. But large portions. Some people might really like this salad. I’m also really picky about how my veggies look before I eat them and the lighting was way too intimate for me to see any imperfections(might have been good or bad…) Ordered 2 grapefruit dranks for Nicole. Please see her review for which she liked haha. On the plus side, food came out quickly. I felt bad for the server since he was the only one and was working as fast as he could(he was also the bartender! haha) From my experience at the restaurant, I’m not sure I’d venture out to try their truck.
