I had very good experiences there for years. The last time I was in, the owner told me he was retiring. I was just checking Unilocal to see if he had closed yet and it sounds like he must have retired. If anyone knows of a similar repair shop, would love the information. I have a suitcase that needs to be repaired. Thanks.

These people have always treated me well and done good work — fair and honestly. I drove by their store the other day and it seems they’ve either moved or gone out of business. In fact, the strip of stores surrounding them seemed… sad, closed or for rent. One exception being Jacob’s Jewelers — no relation. I hope Jacob’s Leather Goods has relocated and I wish I knew where. If someone knows, please post here… okay? This town changes on a dime and I’m finding that disconcerting nowadays. Maybe that’s merely a sign of getting older? Jeez…

Awful customer service and overpriced work aside, this place is still pretty bad. I went in to get a zipper replaced and a hook reinforced and I could barely recognize my item when I picked it up. The main lock was broken, to which the owner replied he didn’t touch it. My item was dirty, so I had him take it back and clean it. The zippers look cheap and are stiff as can be, and my mom could have done a better stitching job. The hook is in good shape, which is why my rating is two stars and not one. I only went here because the place I called originally couldn’t take me. I should have listened to my fellow Unilocalers.

Whatever you do, do not come here to get your purse fixed! My mom needed them to do a minor fix on her purse. It took a month for them to finish. When she got it back, they had used a different color thread to do the stitching and worst of all she found a pair of socks, a white glove and a red eye mask below some newspaper they stuffed in her purse! It seems like someone was using her purse. She eventually went back to the owner and they ended up restitching the purse with the correct color. They had no excuse for the amount of time it took to finish her purse(it was supposed to take 2 weeks) and no good excuse for the items in there.

Like a previous reviewer I too have been going to Jacob for years. His craftsmanship is well worth the wait(sometimes up to two weeks). Yes he can seem«pouty» but that is his nature. I’ll take his excellent work over minimal personality anytime. I wish that he would take credit cards as many times when I want to pick up an item being repaired I forget that I don’t have cash/check book on me.

Love, love, love. Wouldn’t take my suitcases anywhere else. Hope they stay in business for years!
