Simply delicious Belizean food, the food is very fresh and they cook all day. Not a fan of their desserts at all, to sweet for me. It is a Mom and Pop type restaurant with a TV and lots of people coming and going. They have a laid back attitude(no need to hurry, it took about 20 minutes to take our order for 3 people, as other people waiting were complaining and several walked out) They do not wear uniforms, SMH They now accept credit cards, there is street parking however it is easier to hit the LOTTERY of 1.3 billion than find a parking space on Western. Yes I will return because the Oxtails are the absolute BOMB! My 5 stars are for the food, fresh and tasty!

I’m Belizean American, and places like this are the closest thing to home in LA there is. Joan & Sisters comes in at #3 behind«Flavors of Belize» & «Little Belize”(both off La Brea) when it comes to authentic Belizean food. Customer service here is an issue. I wish she/they would smile more and be a bit more attentive to customers, like looking at them while in conversation would be nice, ijs. Maybe a vacation is needed, lol. But STILL like this place even tho prices went all skyrocket mode… sheesh. F.Y.I must go there during lunch(11−2ish) or rush hour(after 4−5pm) when the rice and beans are made fresh instead of the first batch made at 10am and sitting there for hours upon hours in a steamer. Special orders SHOULDNOT be ready 3 min after you order, it should be «Made to order» Food is better later in the day, TRUSTME!

Small, quaint little restaurant. I order a couple food from there everything was great but the only disappointment waa their chicken tamales. It’s delicious don’t get me wrong but you really get big pieces of chicken which should be shredded. It is called laziness and also cheating the person of the masa part which is why I love tamales not because of the chicken bur the corn. The only belizean restaurant to do this. Disappointed in my tamales.

I love their meat pies. It’s a favorite and i hate when I get the craving for it and it’s sold out. It sells faster than most of their other items so I make sure to not wait too late to go for it. Their tamales is good too and the panades. These guys really make me feel at home with their cooking!

Joans and Sisters have really delicious food. Everything on the menu is excellent. Especially, the Oxtail, Stewbeans, Rice and Potato Salad. The only downside to this place is the customer service. It would be nice to get a hello may I help you when you walk in the door. I don’t like poor customer service and it’s uncalled for. They do give you lots food and it’s worth $ 13.00 a plate. You could feed two to three people with that amount. I would give them 5 Stars but they really have to work on how they greet their customers and their overall approach.

The chicken and rice is so flavorful! I always say I’m going to taste something else on the menu and I can’t imagine life without the tender and juicy chicken. Even the white meat chicken is juicy! Potato salad and rice and beans are just as flavorful. Milk cake and coconut pie are the way to finish it all off. The ox tail and short rib dinners are on my list to try! lll

I was in the area and hungry so I decided to Unilocal for food. This place came up and I thought I’d try something different. I ordered 2 meat pies(they’re cupcake size). Very flavorful and inexpensive if you’re trying to get a quick bite!

Visiting LA over the three day weekend and had to stop for some good Belizean food. We ordered the stew chicken dinner, oxtail dinner, and some tarts for the road. Great food with large portions.

I heard some great things about Joan & Sisters but the oxtails and chicken tasted a bit underwhelming to me. I did like their meat patties but I can’t say they were great. Maybe I just went on a bad day. The nice thing about this place though is their prices are low and they give large portions. However, I prefer Flavors of Beilize on Fairfax for Beilizean food.

My first week living in my house about a block away from this place I almost went, if only to see what Beilizean food was. However, on my way a woman warned me that the food here was no good. Finally about three months after I finally tried Joan & sisters and I believe that woman was wrong. The food was a little pricey, I basically got the chicken dinner at it was roughly 12 dollars, still I was given something like 2 pounds of food. Since i had left overs twice that seems a fair price, however the ratio of rice to anything else throws that price back into slightly too expensive in my opinion. Otherwise, the food was solid. I believe there are more things on the menu that would be above solid. This place has the vibe that when you find what is the best fare on the menu it will be fantastic, but I have yet to find it. We will see, joan, I will crack all of your secrets one day, and make Unilocal completely aware.

Small family owned business. They serve authentic Belizean food. Very small and if you blink you will miss it. I always get the meat patties. The meat patties are very similar to a Jamaican beef patty. It is made of ground beef, veggies and a wonderful array of spices. The crust is golden and flaky. So delicious. If you get there to late you might miss them. Everybody love these. One pattie will fill you up. The sweets are homemade and tasty. I like the coconut tart. It loaded with coconut! This is a great place to experience homemade Belizean food. If you’re in the area, give it a try.

It took a Nigerian to help me find a Belizean Restaurant. I’d been to Belize 3 times and had attempted to find a GOOD rest. here in L.A. To be fair, it was down the street from his studio. The Ox-tail was very delicious and just fell off the bone. My friend had a meat pie and the chicken… he’s a big eater! I say that because they give such big portions. they do NOT scamp like so many other places. The restaurant itself is not a place one goes to for the ambiance rather for the food and service. Parking is just on the street. Nothing fancy about this place… just darn tasty food.

A friend was obsessed with this hole in the wall so we decided to see what the fuss was all about. It was my first time eating Belizian food and it was quite delightful. The meat pies were flavorful and the chicken(with rice) was tender.

This is truly the best Belizean-American food out there. I am in love with the oxtail dinner and their meat pies, I have gone to other places where they sell this kind of meals and you can not compare. Joan & Sis is no.1 The service is always excellent! except there is no parking, but that’s alright because the food make up for it. Try the oxtail and meat pies you wont be disappointed.
