Love this place! Sourdough starter, ancient grains… they do things the right way!

My favorite bread that I’ve found in LA. I first tried their bread at the Grand Central Market for the bread/bakers show that happened back in June, and I was really impressed. They were trying out a fermented wheat-berry bread, which was dark and moist but not at all dense. It had a great sour flavor that was definitely strong, but not over the top. The crumb was moist, with a little bit of chew and a nice open texture(plenty of air pockets) while the crust was crisp and not thick or difficult to chew. I personally make a lot of bread at home, and it’s this sort of quality that reminds me I’m quite the amateur. I also tried the standard country loaf, which had a lot of similar qualities — a great crust, good open-crumb with a decent chew, much less of a sour note in the background. I happened to find a baguette as well from Dinosaur coffee in Silver Lake, and I was again really impressed — a crackly, almost shattering crust with an open crumb with the perfect amount of chewiness(not so chewy that it makes it hard to bite and eat). Perfect with a little bit of butter and salt! They don’t have a retail operation yet, but you can find them at Cafecito Organico on the weekends and at Dinosaur Coffee during a few weekdays(I think Tue-Fri?). Either way, seek them out if you like bread!

So, this morning I went to Cafecito for my usual coffee and sourdough toast with honey and a slice of quiche… I gotta tell ya, «What a magnificent way to start my day.» A cup of hot coffee and an outstanding breakfast! The bread is so soft and moist, the quiche is just right. Oh, and their cinnamon rolls are indescribably awesome with just a whole lot of sticky goodness(real buttery sweetness and flaky with a hint of orange). Venti is always so friendly and she makes the most delicious assortments of breads and treats that taste as though they’re made with real love and definately made with real ingredients. On a side note: it’s artisan bakers, like yourselves, that ad to the ambience and mystique that is Silverlake. Keep up the good work guys!

Yummmmmmmmmmm. I think about this bread during the week when they’re not at cafecito! I look forward to the weekends when I know I will be able to get a thick slice of this hearty deliciousness. I know bread gets a bad wrap in some circles but this is a delicacy worthy of breaking your bread rules now and again, and again.

This is a truly one of those experiences where you take on a whole new appreciation for bread. It’s pretty hard to describe how great this bakery is, not to mention how incredibly sweet Venti is! The bread itself is magically dense yet perfectly soft inside. I can’t wait to try more from them!

K&V make some AMAZING bread. My friend introduced me to their white chocolate loaf last weekend, and I had to drop by to get some more. It’s ridiculously addictive. It is a sourdough loaf with white chocolate chips in it. Sounds like a strange combination but it is actually really delicious. I eat it by itself, but I can also imagine it being really good with some conficture. I also picked up a perfect sandwich loaf(it’s their regular sourdough bread but in sandwich loaf shape) and can’t wait to make sandwiches with it. Delivery/pick-up only. Order ahead on their website.
