My friends and I came here to celebrate some birthdays in our bunch. We had a GREAT time, groovin’ to the music, snackin’, drinkin’, and people watching. Beware — it gets REALLY crowded at the park, so you’ll need to come early to claim some space. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck with only a square foot of space to park your bottoms. People bring chairs, blankets, food, and of course — booze. You can access the current«Levitated Mass» exhibit behind the LACMA, as well as any contemporary art/sculptures displayed outside the museum. Great sights, sounds, and smells. I believe I attended the last concert of the season, but would surely love to come back next year!

I have been here twice now and both times were fantastic! Free, great concerts in the park, how can you go wrong? A wide variety of people come to enjoy great music, dance(if you can or want to), picnic with friends, and all seem to be happy! You can find free parking if you are willing to walk a couple blocks with your lawn chairs and picnic baskets. A really great relaxing event that if you like lively latin jazz, salsa ect, I highly recommend!

When you have a summer concert series that is so popular, even Jesus himself shows up, you know you are doing something right! What’s that? You think I’m full of crap? Check out my photo below… LACMA’s «Latin Sounds» reminds me why I love summer in LA. Here you have a world-class art museum that could simply let it’s exhibits speak for themselves. Not content to rest on their laurels, they start a really popular FREE summer concert series(in addition to a bunch of other free stuff). If the crowds I’ve seen are any indication of the popularity of the event, LACMA should consider this a big success. Some stuff you should know: — Booze available for sale! Yes! Back of the concert in a roped off area. Basic beers, margaritas and mixed drinks. Not surprisingly, not cheap — but hey, it makes up for the free concert you’re getting… — OK, OK, I know some of you will complain about the booze prices. Good thing for you it’s basically BYOB. If it weren’t, there would be about 200 tickets at each concert. So get there early, bring a blanket and a picnic and you’re set. — Super family-friendly. Kids everywhere. Dogs everywhere. Keep one or the other on a leash, will you? — If you are a salsa dancer, there is a dance floor in front of the stage. However, it fills quickly. Best to wear comfortable shoes and find some space to either side. — Speaking of dancing, watch out for the speakers. This kind of goes to all free concert venues. They need to amplify and pitty the fool who steps in front of those things. — For some reason, everyone and their mother wants to park on 6th street. Go just a little east and closer to Wilshire and there are spots. Many of the meters are even free after a certain hour(careful about parking in resident zones though). Here’s a direct link: . Enjoy! P. S. I’m sooo excited to tell my non-salsa friends that the music is a religious experience. Sweet!

Stumbled upon this FREE, outdoor musical series when I was at LACMA this weekend. Many were prepared and brought fabulous looking picnics to the event. The shows start every Saturday at 5pm. I saw an artist named Ricardo Lemvo leading a band playing afro-cuban music heavily influenced by pan-African styles. Learn more about who I saw here: Check out artists playing

Love the free music at LACMA in the summer! Saturdays 5 – 7 outside behind the museum for latin music(and friday nights 6 – 8 for jazz). Bring your own food, wine and cocktails, chairs and blankets to picnic or just show up and grab sangria and tacos there… and hear some really good music from mexico to south america and show off your dancing skills if you feel like it — might be a hundred others doing the same. It’s a great scene(diverse crowd — families w kids and dogs, hipsters, artists, music aficionados and salsa dancers etc) and has totally grown over the past 5 – 6 years that LACMA has been doing this.. just a fun easy afternoon…

*** Latin Sounds occur this summer each Sat@5pm. *** Alfredo de la Fe, a Cuban-born and New York-based violinist, once again transformed his violin into soulfully stylish salsa and Latin music. Ahh yet another relaxing afternoon in the park … complete with a cooler, blanket, sushi & excellent warm weather. It is often said that the best things in life are free. Latin Sounds is one of them! *** It was def worthy of two hours of my time on a Sat. ***
