Recently moved back to the East Los Angeles area and noticed this place is not Rudy’s anymore. I heard there was going to be a Doors tribute band the other night so I decided to meet some friends there. The place looks great and they have a cool selection of draft beer with the option of 16, 22, or 32 oz. I spent 58 bucks on drinks and I left the bartender a 5 dollar tip since the service was bad but I always leave a minimum of 5 dollars no matter how shitty the service is. The bad thing is that when the transaction went through on my bank account I was charged an extra 10 dollars on top of the 5 I originally tipped. I don’t give a damn about the 10 dollars but it pisses me off when establishments pull this crap. Do you really have to mess with the receipts to make some extra cash? I will not be back and I will strongly recommend to friends and family to not bother with this place. I hope the 10 bucks were worth it, this is how you lose customers.

It’s always nice to walk up to a place and feel hated before you say or do anything I guess that’s why this dive bar has hate and love in the name because apparently the treat everyone one way or the other. Alright so walking up to this dive bar I was here for a SKA show as soon as I reached the front door the security was beyond rude and mean to me for no reason, once I gave them my id they looked at it and said your out of dress code and can’t come inside I’m like your joking right he said no you need to go check the Facebook and see what you can and can’t wear to our bar and I’ll let you in this time and I suggest you read this sign that has what we allow as he points to this huge sign right inside the dimly lit door. So after walking around inside for a minute or so my friends called me to say they were arriving and to meet up so I walked out and was instantly yelled at where are you going? My reply to get my lady and meet up with my friends his reply a few mumbled mean words and your not allowed to come back in alright cool you kick me out for doing nothing now that’s just being an overzealous rent a cop suffering from asshole syndrome! So after meeting up with my friends I was able to come back in because I was carrying some of their gear and the rude security just got over it at this point after a few more rude comments to me as I walked in. They were offering $ 1 Dos XX on a Thursday night but to make the matter worse they ran out really quick as it seemed like more of a gimmick to get people to visit this dive bar. Speaking of a dive bar I can’t remember the last time I was denied entry to a place because of the way I was dressed as this wasn’t an upscale establishment it’s a dive bar that’s putting on SKA shows which is far off from a real club or a nice establishment that I would feel it’s necessary to dress up for the occasion. Wile inside I found it quite funny that they let the band set up their equipment in their kitchen now isn’t that a huge health violation? By the looks of the kitchen with the sludge buckets on the ground I doubt they care all that much about what they are serving to people and I’d say your rolling the dice if you were to eat here. The whole overall experience here was nothing but negative and just all around whack as well as un welcoming in many different ways to me as I felt the security here was out to start problems anyway they could with anyone my guess would be they are bored out of their minds or they are just racist. This is a pathetic want to be excuse for a club or whatever it is suposto be and I’m sure that it will only be a matter of time before this ghetto unwelcoming dirty dive bar ends up on bar rescue hoping they can fix their failing business.

Great drinks… awesome food… fabulous music. I have looked long and far for a place like this. its right up my alley. Its a hidden gem. My favorite bands play here too. I enjoy eating here because it is not your basic bar food or mexican food.

It’s a nice dive bar. Great service and can’t beat the price on Tuesdays. But I won’t be going back to that place. Their restroom resembles one that can be found in a third world country. Disgusting, had to leave simply because I had to take a crap and theirs no way I could shit in a restroom like that.

Yesterday was my first time and last time ever coming to this bar! First of all, when my coworkers and I arrived to this location the bar MANAGER greeted us, not so warmly, but a bit in a jerk type of way. He came up to us and asked for our IDs. My coworkers jokingly told him that he has never carded them before and that he was making them feel young again. Keep in mind that we were all getting ready to show our IDs and this man then tells us «well if you don’t like it theres the door» Umm…okay…that’s not some type of way, you, especially as a MANAGER should be greeting your customers. We just all stood quiet and handed him our IDs. Secondly, I am 22 years old, i received my driver’s license two years ago when i was 20 so i have the vertical ID card. I have never EVER had a problem with my ID at other bars. They just check the ID birthday and expiration date and let me go on. BUT apparently at this place you NEED to have the other ID. The bar MANAGER started giving me a hard time about my ID. At first it seemed like he was struggling with the date and age so i told him 1993, I am 22years old. And then he said that he knew but he was just looking for the expiration date and he couldn’t find it. He then started saying I can’t serve you because of this ID and that it was against the law to serve someone with this type of ID. OKAY. WTF. Never had i ever had an issue with my ID nor had i ever heard that it was against the law. I would assume since my ID hasn’t expired it is still valid but apparently at this place it is illegal. The MANAGER then said but i will let you get drinks today but next tine I won’t give you anything… In all honesty, he made me feel really bad and uncomfortable. I didnt even want to buy anything from this place because of the bad service but my coworker ended up buying me, herself and her friend a michelada. I took a sip from my michelada and instantly didnt like it. It tasted too sweet and too much like A1 sauce. Then my coworker started mixing her drink and after a couple of seconds of stirring she said«wtf is that? « You can probably imagine the disgust we experienced throughout our body and brain. There was a freaken COCKROACH inside the michelada. We then told the bartender who had made our drinks about it and he instantly cane and took our drinks. The bartender was so kind and polite about it. He got my coworkersand i free drinks(6 of us) and a round of shots. We didn’t leave this place because we were expecting more people to arrive and we didn’t want to txt all of them and tell them we were relocating with the fear of them just saying they were not coming anymore. After the whole incident, more of our coworkers started coming. We ended up filling up the side where we sat down up. Needless to say, i bet the MANAGER felt so stupid for the eay he treated us, for the cockroach in his bar and in our drink under his supervision, and for all the people and money we brought the bar yesterday night. Mr. MANAGER let’s not ever meet again.

My first time coming here was on a Tuesday & I completely fell in love with this place… Tuesday $ 1.00 Coronas & Saturday $ 1.00 Modelos. Tuesday’s usually gets most packed the dj is bumping all kinds of jams, this is definitely the spot to bring your friends out to during the week. No cover charge on Tuesday’s as well

Being from the SFV and going to East LA is an adventure for me. I wasn’t expecting much, but I am impressed with the food. I ordered chicken wings with the dry rub and I swear they were great! I also like the fried jalapeño that came with it. The serving portion also make this dish a good deal. Another thing I ordered was Kalbi Short Ribs. Again, a good deal. Both had lots of meat for the price. My companions had the burger, flat bread and nachos which they say were good. My compliments to the chef. This is good bar food. Not something I would expect in East LA. We stayed until the band came which I think was around 9:00pm. They were an all female reggae band. Nine in the band. Man, were they good too. Such great entertainment! Also there was the«Dos Equis Man(Most Interesting Man look alike/promoter). He gave us some key chains and I think the Dos Equis cost a buck or two at that time. That again was a good deal although I was the designated driver that night so my diet coke probably cost more. I’m impressed with the place although it got crowded during the dollar special. There were a lot of guys with shaved heads with tattoos that came during those«happy hours» which made me felt a bit uncomfortable. Thank god the bar had three double wide bouncers which sort of assured me that I’ll be in good hands. I wish this bar was in my neck of the woods.

I loved the feel of the bar and the décor. I would’ve given them an extra star or two but their bartenders were not friendly, super slow, and light handed on the pour. I went here on a Friday night to see my friends band play and it was awesome, sound system wasn’t too bad but Very small dance floor. My advice to the owners would be get a few bartenders that aren’t stuck up and do not get flustered, especially on a Friday night!

Ok, long overdue. I moved to this part of East Los about 6 months ago and found this gem… Now, service(I mean, energy, friendliness) isnt A+++ but it is definitely worthy of 4 stars. But there are so many other reasons why I am grading on a curve here… First off, it is a pretty authentic«Rock Bar» in East LA… Deep red walls, gorgeous paintings of Johnny Cash, Jimmy, etc adorn the walls. It feels a little divey while classier. But its rock & roll, I don’t want glam. I want grit! Ok, 10 Stars for the FOOD!!! The kitchen and executive chef are absolutely amazing! I don’t know of another«bar» that has food of this caliber. They have VEGAN options and I often get the curried cauliflower wrap. Jesus Christ Marie! It is perfect. My boyfriend is a wing snob and he loves their wings! Great BEERPRICES, and even $ 2 beers a few days during the week. The crowd is NOT diverse, though me and the bf throw a little mixture in there. ALSO they host karaōke and TRIBUTEBANDS! We saw a U2 tribute band(LA-Vation) and then a PRINCE cover two nights in a row. We were there 4 days in a row that week. The only improvement would be with service… a little extra smile and light conversation would be great.(though there are two gentlemen bartenders who are very friendly). We LOVELOVEHATE. :)(got that?)

Tuesday night is Hip Hop. Thursday night is reggae music. And Saturday night is rock. I went on a Saturday night hoping for hip hop but they only had live rock bands playing old rock music. Not my music, than when I opened a tab they took forever to give me back my credit card. $ 5 cash only for admission. Only cool thing was my bud light was $ 2.

the security does not know how to check for valid passport so don’t bother trying i think the bar should invest in hiring a better security company because they are rather rude and cant let someone in with a passport because they don’t know how so upsetting get it together. Its a hit and miss at this bar I mean if you’re with the right ppl you can forget about how shitty the place actually is and enjoy the $ 1 $ 2 drink nights they have. So good luck may the odds of some random girl snorting coke in the stall next to you or the girl throwing up in the trash be for ever in your favor

Love the updates they did to this place. Good music good vibes but the bar service is horrible! I’ve been waiting for a bartender for 15−20min. They seem to serve their regulars and ignore everyone else. It’s unfortunate I came to spend my money and it’s obviously not wanted. I don’t mean to sound sexists but as a Female at a bar NO Female or myself should ever beg for bar service. There is a science to bars and they obviously don’t know it at Love Hate. Females bring in $$ because for the most part we like mixed drinks and well also guys buy girls drinks. The more females in a bar/club more alcohol sales. Alcohol sales bring in the $$ not beer sales. So I won’t be supporting a bar who doesn’t know how to run a good business. Love Hates needs to do a lot more research on how to run a successful bar. It is lacking. Hire more and friendlier bartenders and stop ignoring your female clientele, regardless of their appearance.

The rock n’roll is always LOUD here. If u can’t enjoy loud music, don’t come. Loudness aside, the place is decent bar. The food was good and I’m looking forward to come back and try other dishes. We had the Heavy Metal Shrimp Cocktail. It had vodka poached shrimp the were big, juicy and the perfect texture. The cocktail liquid tasted too much like cucumber for my taste, but still spicy and good. It reminded me of a very spicy Bloody Mary with too much cucumber. The Look Into My Fries dish with carne asada was surprisingly good. Better than I expected. They use commercial fries, but they were well prepared. The carne asada was what made this dish good. It was perfectly seasoned and piled high on the fries. It was like a giant delicious plate of really good nachos, but French fries instead of tortilla chips. This place is close to home and serves $ 1 Pacifico bottles on Fridays. There is usually a cover band that starts up around 9pm, but I’m told they have different events during the week. The crowd is made up of area locals. The average working man looking for a place to knock a few back. I got a kick out of the heavy metal themed menu. There is a kalbi dish with house made kimchi that I want to try. Maybe I’m too generous with stars, but I think they are doing a good job in and underserved area.
