Me and two friends ordered lots of staples and everything was surprisingly delicious. Staff is super friendly.

This place was just ok. The prices aren’t the same as on the menu and they don’t tell you until you get your bill. The sides dishes were average. The also have a B score but they try to hide it.

This is some legit korean food. I was hesitant about coming it because it seemed so empty during dinner time, but i really wanted some good korean food(and chomak right next door has failed me too many times). Omg let me say i found my new fave korean restaurant!!! I got the galbi tang, and the gogi+dwenjangjjigae combo… definitely hit the spot. I hope they do better because i never want them to close haha. DEFINITELY recommend :)

Although I try to avoid eating Korean food, there are times when you just crave some home cooked food that reminds me of you childhood, and that happened to be one of those days, especially when I’m sick. Nothing hits the spot more than soup and comfort food when your sick and feeling blue haha. I was Unilocaling around for some soup and came across Mat Goeul. They had good reviews and the food looked great so we decided to come here. Parking is small and it’s valet for $ 2. Inside is a bit small but spacious. The menu varies from soups, different meats served in hot stones, and other stews and dishes as well. The banchan(small side dishes) selection was pretty good and generous. _Bulgogi(marinated beef). Good amount of nicely cooked bulgogi. The bulgogi needed a bit more salt, as it tasted a bit bland than other places I’ve tried but my taste but is a bit off so it may just be me. I like the grilled onions. Some rice, bulgogi, grilled onions, and kimchi and you got the perfect bite! _Galbi Jjim(braised short rib stew)(comes in 2 sizes). This was good. I’ve had better elsewhere, but what made this different was how clean it tasted. It was a bit bland but as they are known for no MSG you can tell it tastes lighter and the broth looks more clear. The beef itself was tender and soft. The broth was perfect for my cold. _Kongnamul Bap(bean sprout rice) It may sound soso but It’s pretty good. My mom used to make this. Every place makes it different but here it was white rice, bean sprouts, julienne cucumber, chopped scallions, little bit of minced beef, korean style egg roll, and chopped seaweed. This taste itself is very bland so it’s served with a sauce that I believe has soy sauce, some spicy red chili powder, green onions and maybe sesame oil. You want to put a little bit as it’s real salty and strong in flavor. I like to add little by little as I eat this. This also went well with the bulgogi since this dish itself doesn’t have much meat. Service was great and overall we were all happy with out meal. I would definitely come back to try their other popular dishes. Price is also reasonable.

I came here last night with a friend for dinner. When we arrived for dinner around 7:30 p.m., there were only one or two other parties at the restaurant, so it was not busy by any means. We were originally going to order the chicken stew since it’s so popular among Unilocalers, and I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything like it before, but we ran into a roadblock when we were told by the waitress that they ran out. Alright, time for Plan B. Instead, we got the braised cod, which comes in a large pot with an variety of veggies and tofu. It’s the kind that’s been braised in the spicy red Korean sauce. Watch out though because if you can’t deal with little fish bones, this is not the dish for you, despite how delicious it may be. The ingredients have been braising for a while, so the daikon radish is very soft, and the mushrooms are just the right texture, too. Although this pot is in the 20s price range, it’s enough to feed two people and then some. We had plenty of leftovers to take home. Of course, we wanted some variety, so we also ordered the haemul pajeon, which is the seafood pancake. This is another dish where you get a generous portion of thick, rather eggy pancake. Definitely feeds more than one. The seafood isn’t the biggest or the freshest, but it’s still pretty good. You do have to like your pajeon on the eggy side. I should also add that they give you banchan just like any other Korean restaurant. You get the usual spread of kimchi, fish cake(tasted fresher here), some boiled and seasoned green veggie, japechae, marinated tofu, etc. It’s a decent spread, and the waitress kept asking if we wanted more. Service: The waitress was very nice. It probably helped that my friend spoke Korean. Bottom line: Authentic Korean cooking. Large portions. Messy parking.

4.5 stars. Took off half a star for the parking situation… or lack there of. The food is great. It’s clean and delicious. I usually get the eun dae goo jo rim which is a spicy fish dish and share with my mom(and we still have extra to take home). It is a bit or pricey compared to other restaurants but the quality of food is worth it. They have a variety of side dishes that all taste great too. We call ahead because the eun dae go jo rim can takr about 15 minutes to make. We also ordered the dak dori tang which is a spicy chicken dish. This takes a while also so call ahead on this one too.

I love this place. This place does not put MSG in the food. I was doubtful about this place due to it a location and their grade B on the inspection grade paper. But this place is so worth going to. It opens really early too. Food and side dishes are all good here

Parking is bad. The waitress is very kind, and the place is usually not busy – so it’s a good place to go if you just want a quiet environment. Nothing really special about the food but it won’t disappoint either.

I like this place because of their clean soups and dishes. U can tell there is no MSG. The days I am lazy to cook, well I’m not a very good cook to begin with lol… I bring my son here after school on the way home or sometimes we walk over. The owners are very friendly. Reminds you of you grandma grandpa back in Korea. I recommend their galbi tang. Not salty at all and very clean tasting. They give you a variety of side dishes also unlike most small restaurants where side dishes is limited. There are always older people here chilling and it just feels like a restaurant in a booney city back in Korea

Parking is kinda bad. Very small lot. Ordered mushroom soup, dol sot bi bim bop, and galbi jjim. Mushroom soup was spicy and packed with flavor. It didnt taste too heavy so im assuming not too much MSG. I think it’d be great to eat during winter. Bi bim bop was piping hot & solid. Fresh veggies and their gochujang worked real well with the bi bim bop. Galbijjim comes out in two sizes. I got the small and it was huge. Packed w meat, veggies, and some dates and spices. Good flavor and I think it’s super solid. I don’t think it’s the best galbijjim ever but it’s super duper solid.

I really didn’t want to write a review for this place because there’s just some places you want to keep for yourself. Lol. But since it’s the New Year and I shouldn’t be greedy I decided to share this place with all you foodies :) I usually get the Eundaegoo jorim(soy braised cod with radish) and the AL tang(fish roe soup) and both are really good… very home cooked meal — ish. There are few big pieces of cod in the Eundargoo jorim and it also comes with rice cakes, mushrooms, tofu, and radish. The AL tang isn’t too salty not too bland. just the right amount of ingredients and they dont skimp on the fish roe either. The dishes are definitely shareable amongst 3 hungry people. The one lady that works there is super sweet and attentive. I also togo so if that is the case call in ahead of time because the food may take awhile.

I love this place. My friend found this restaurant on Unilocal. We were skeptical with so few reviews, but glad we tried it out anyway. The lady, whom I assume is the owner, is super cute. She’s very friendly and gave us so many suggestions on what to eat and do. I guess it was sort of overbearing, but she was so adorable, it didn’t come off that way. We ordered the braised chicken and were going to get another dish, but she stopped us and insisted that the braised chicken was enough for the two of us. Lolwut? We are helping your establishment out by giving you more money. But she wasn’t having it. In the end, she was right because it was a huge bowl of chicken. Tons of potatoes too. The sauce was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. They serve the banchan right before they give you the main dishes, which was kinda frustrating since we were starving! But whatever. It was cute though, as we were eating, the lady came by and started scooping more food onto our plates. She then told my friend to not eat so much rice, as it fills you up, and instead, to eat more of the chicken. Lol. Overall, this place was great. Fantastic food, good service, and the prices were even better. The bill came out to just over $ 20. That’s a meal split between two people, and we left feeling extremely full and satisfied. Def coming back.

I was meeting friends and we decided on Koreatown and the only caveat was no AYCE. I had this place bookmarked and everyone was agreeable to home style Korean food. This place looks empty inside, but you will see tons of people coming and going with large to go orders. My friend and I shared the takttoritang, a spicy sweet chicken dish. Mat geoul’s version has more vegetables than other places – of course potato, but also red and green bell pepper, eggplant, and onions. Serving size is enough for 3 people or you’ll have lots of leftovers. They aren’t the fastest or most glamorous, but the food is tasty and affordable. I’ll go again.

I was in Koreatown to study at Tom n toms and I happened to be really hungry because I didn’t eat all day so since I was in Koreatown I thought I should eat at a Korean restaurant. So k bbq is everywhere too abundant so I decided to eat something else. Honestly I was kind of tired of k bbq and I didn’t have enough money at the time anyway. So I Unilocaled and drove around the area and found this place! Let me say, parking was sooio hard to find! I literally drove all around the area like a block radius each way for 30min and found nothing:/ I ended up parking at carls jr. A street away and walking there. :( A homey small family owned restaurant that sells a small variety of korean food. I got the chicken bulgogi with spicy soybean soup. It was pretty good, just what I was looking for and right in my budget range! Awesome. Would I go back? Maybe.

Somewhat nondescript Korean momma-san owned Korean restaurant, with typical Korean food and prices that makes it worth coming back and trying different things on the menu. They open til 10pm, located next to a couple of other restaurants. The place is clean, their pork is really good, and they play Korean soap operas on the LCD screen in the middle of the restaurant. What’s not to like? Their banchan is really good too, and they’ll come by and give free refills. I had the bbq pork dish, and it was excellent! Very tender and the sauce was rich and spicy. A few dollars cheaper than other places nearby but the quality is superb. The restaurant is located on Western, near the Eastern area. The shop is in the center of the little plaza, but there’s no English writing so just look for the Korean soap opera playing.

K-town… oh you’re so funnnnyyy. You don’t even try to make places«American» friendly. If I wasn’t with my Korean friend, I would have never found this place! The restaurant sign in the plaza is in Korean! How are non-Koreans supposed to know where this restaurant is located? But I guess it’s a common thing in K-town. *shrugs* I ordered the spicy bulgogi and it was really good. I loved the spicy marinade and the beef was cooked perfectly. I love thier kimchi side dish! I prefer kimchi to not be too sour, and that’s just the way it was here. Yummmm!

Can’t stop raving about this place! We literally come here every Sunday! Come say hello! The owners are just soo sweet. It’s$ 2.00 off Mon-Fri 2−5pm(I think) due to lack of parking. My girlfriend tried their chicken bulgogi as well and that was great too! Can’t go wrong with whatever you choose here.
