I’ve tried this place a few times since they’ve opened and I’m really starting to dig this place big time. You have to look to find it — it’s like a hidden gem, but the crowds are always good and the prices are reasonable. A few hipsters for sure, but they’re harmless. They have a good selection of micro-brews and music is tops in my opinion. I will definitely keep coming back. Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is the bathroom needs constant attention, but hey, most bars are this way, especially when they’re popular on the weekends.

Great layout/look. German beer garden tables, an old trailer for the outdoor bar. Plenty of outdoor seating. Plenty of bathrooms. Lots of drafts, bottles and cocktails to choose from. Friendly and efficient staff. Live music. Can’t wait for summer to make myself a resident.

Huge fan. Location is in the Arts District but can easily be missed if you never knew it was across from Urth Café. This is a live music venue, but some nights they use a DJ. All good. Craft beers and cocktails are good. Staff and security are super cool. Crowd is diverse with professionals and hipsters roaming around both the indoor and outdoor bar. There is a converted trailer in the patio that serves the booze with a food truck selling drunchies — delicious drunchies! If you’re partying in the outside patio area, you will be corralled inside at about 10pm due to noise regulations. Bathrooms are super clean. Your female friends will appreciate this venue for this fact alone! Parking is hit or miss. We parked in the lot at the Arts District Brewery and walked over. Definitely recommend this venue. The Arts District is definitely a hot destination spot bringing in people in from all over Socal. The Resident is the perfect venue for a large gathering, a place to catch up with friends over some drinks, or a great location to pre-game on your way to the rest of your evening! Enjoy!

This place is okay… The layout is nice and the food trucks are nice. The music was not that great and the bar service was below average. They sell vodka but they don’t have ANY mixers(no cranberry juice, OJ, or Sprite).

Went here for a friend’s birthday on a Sunday, early evening. There was definitely parking space competition between Resident visitors and Urth Café patrons. I ended up parking by a studio down the street. To get to Resident, it’s best to know the address and look up photos on Unilocal — otherwise it would be easy to miss. I found my friends — because they were the only ones inside. It’s a spacious interior and I can see how it makes a great music venue. We moved to the patio where there was plenty of seating in a cool, contemporary environment(we’re talking mod picnic tables surrounded by walls o’succulents). There’s a silver bullet trailer that serves as the 2nd bar. I ordered«Daddy Issues» which was a fruity cocktail garnished with a gummy frog… yum! I asked about food and the bartender said it’d be available once it arrived(around 7;30−8-ish), and then pointed to a cooking area. Hm. In reality that meant nothing would be ready until 8:30−9-ish. This is when it pays to be a cool late nighter(hey, I have a toddler at home)! Overall I had a good time with my friends in a super chill environment.

New favorite music venue ! Non-pretentious vibe with a great space. I really want to plan a birthday event or gathering here; they have lots of indoor outdoor space and grub(which I did not try but looked good). I went on a Monday *it’s a school night by kcrw) and for random music I really really liked it! Totally coming back, following, insta-ing, and signing up for their newsletter! Also, some mixed drinks I liked(mescal based one done dirty) and some were okay but ran a little sweet for my taste(red velvet, harvey wallbanger).

Excellent venue. We were one of ten million people trying to get into Monty this past Saturday for the Lemmy/Bowie tribute event. After seeing the line, we checked Unilocal and found this place. Awesome patio, top-tier BBQ, indoor and outdoor bars, a dance floor and maybe the nicest staff I’ve ever encountered in California. Seriously, from the bartenders to the security… everyone was unusually polite. It was an excellent change of scenery in that regard as well. Anyway, you need to check it out. It’s two weeks old and we were some of the only people there at 9pm. By midnight, the place was jumping and that’s when they clear the patio. The inside dance floor(with DJ) then gets a little crazy. Great night. Great venue. Don’t change when you grow up, Resident.

This is a huge addition to the neighborhood. The inside area with dance floor and stage is super well-done. I can’t wait to see live music here. The DJ last night was great. The outdoor area is also super cool, and the drinks coming out of the airstream bar were awesome. This is probably going to become my go-to spot.

Outside beer garden is cute and they have a pop up kitchen with bomb food. Inside the venue space is on the intimate side but perfect for a bar venue

I really don’t want to tell you how cool it is for selfish reasons, but: I visited this weekend for the first time and enjoyed everything about it. It is a lovely modern space with friendly staff(literally each member greeted us, made conversation or a joke-you funny doorman), and delicious drinks! Johnny’s Appleseed was my favorite. The New Fashioned was good too. I like it better than most bars in my portion of downtown, so will gladly make the trip more often.

This bartending crew is a can’t miss. These guys take their drinks seriously while still being as down to earth as they come. Go check this place out! It’s well worth the trip!

They have food(hotdogs & tacos), a beer garden(where you can chill/talk), indoor bar and dance floor, AND live music/bands — what more can you ask for! Maybe a shuffle board?

I think I’ve had Unilocal for years now and I’ve never written a review before. I gotta say this place is a breath of fresh air. Best spot I have ever been to in Los Angeles. From the fucking immaculately catered food, to the ability to serve amazingly consistent drinks both inside and out in the patio, heat lamps for the whiny babies who can’t take the beautifully cold weather, stage for live bands. The ONLY critique I have is I just wish they had a connecting sound system to hear what the DJ is spinning outside on the amazingly large patio/outdoor area. That won’t take away from the 5 stars though. And those 5 stars were heavily influence by the 2 gentleman catering the fuck out of that place with the most mouthwatering food I swear I cried after the 1st bite. Why the fuck don’t those guys have a restaurant? I would go to this place just to eat. I’m getting hungry typing this now. Holy shit…

I went to this place solo on Tuesday night at around 10pm thinking I’d just go for a beer and check the place out. I live real close and walked over there. I had just seen on Unilocal that this place was open and I had to check it out! There is $ 3 parking about 100ft on both sides of the front door. However, if you drive around enough you’ll probably find it on your own. There was security at the door and I had a fun conversation with the guy. As I was standing out the door talking to the guy, I could hear loud ‘rock’ music playing on the inside. I did’t know that it was a live music bar because there was no advertisement of live music on the outside. I, also, noticed that there was no obvious advertisement on the outside for the place itself. This may be the allure of the place because it did feel like an «underground» club. It was in no way an underground club, but being in the Arts District. It does have that fun outer edge feeling from the outside! After having a fun conversation with the security guard, I walked in. As you walk in, the stage is immediately to your right. I walked into the bar with everyone looking at me because they were all positioned to watch the stage. It was loud. I also felt a bit uncomfortable walking in by myself and having everyone notice it. But, that’s my own social insecurity! I went to the bar and sat there for a little bit until I got some help. I ordered one Spaten Optimator $ 8(kinda expensive for that beer and in this area!). The bartender didn’t know what I was talking about and I had to say it a few times. Then I had to get the menu to point out that the beer was on the menu. He had to check it a couple of times to make sure that they had it or which tap it was on??? That didn’t bother me at all. I was assuming that since the place is new that they were all getting used to the menu. I got my beer looked around to see where I could setting down. The sound board is directly across from the bar and it makes it a slightly tight area, but it does force interaction. There wasn’t too many places to sit. So, I stood by the soundboard drinking my Beer. I looked around and saw that the place was a rectangle with the stage and some seats on one end, The bar and soundboard in the middle, and the back with some seating on the other end. I stayed for two songs which was when the band that was playing finished their set. That’s when I walked out of the place. Not because I didn’t like it. I was just ready to leave. The security guard remembered me and ask what I thought. I told him it was fine, but I was just wanting to sit and chill and not really wanting to be in a loud atmosphere place. He said that there was a back patio seating area that I didn’t see when I was in there. Apparently, the way to the back patio, for me, wasn’t lit well enough for me to find when I was in there. The real question is will I go back… sure. But, I’ll have to see if live bands are playing or not. I’m more of a sit and chill kind of person. I heard to that they serve food there, but when I was in there… I didn’t see any advertisement of menu anywhere for it. Nor did I know where to order? When I go back, I’ll spend a little more time in there and see more of what’s happening…

Anxiously awaited the opening of this sweet gem in the Arts District and was pleasantly impressed. Resident offers craft cocktails at a reasonable price, indoor seating and an outdoor beer garden reminiscent to Austin, Texas haunts. Kudos to another great place to quench the thirst in one of my favorite areas of LA! Food is also available outside alongside their full service bar trailer!

One of the newest gems of the Arts District, this place boasts space and a killer venue. The bar, dance floor and lounge booths are all comfortably appointed and accessible inside, and the outside is a great winding down spot loaded with tables, heaters, a mobile bar and food vendor. A perfect compliment to the indoor dance vibe. I’ve yet to see the rooftop, and was unsure really how to access that or if it’s open certain nights? Anywho, came for the first time NYE. Called ahead, rep said it was«bumping» and to come on over! He was right. My friends and I loved it. Must say, however,(and I may get flack for this) the music could be better. There was a lack of consistency between the songs, and the dance floor had literally gone from empty to crowded(once a current, upbeat song came on) multiple times. Drinks were great, fairly priced. The crowd was a positive good vibe too. I’ll be back, and I’m really rooting for this place!

went last minute for NYE and had a blast. the DJ was great, the space was put together really well and they had a gorge outdoor area. bonus points for having a food vendor there as well! not sure if that is an every day thing or not but it was genius and should be if it’s not already. the only reason i gave 4⁄5 stars is because it took WAY too long get drinks at the bar and they weren’t even that busy. i’ll definitely be back though.

Beautiful bar right across from Urth Café. Good drinks, friendly staff, large selection of beer. Can’t wait for the weather to get warmer to we can try out the amazing patio space.
