My fraternity had an event here one night and had the club closed down exclusively for us. The DJ was a friend of mine, so of course by default I liked his music. ;P I expected more out of this place because it’s in Hollywood, but these days I’ve realized that Hollywood doesn’t really mean much. The venue is a little small, décor and design of the club is very classy. It was more of a lounge than club. I’d come back here if I had to choose between here and some of the other clubs I’ve been to in Hollywood. 3 stars is fair.

+1 for bypassing the line bc the bouncer was nice +1 for no cover by asking nicely +1 for goodie bag with mostly useless crap but lindor truffle woot! I think we came here on a weird night. There was a fashion show earlier in the night that had just ended, which explains the goodie bags. Someone just randomly came up to us and told us to go to another room and get a baggie, how nice :) This place looks like a big house. There was a dance floor that looked like a living room upstairs, and a bar in the hallway. The bartender was really nice, but the bar is really awkwardly located in the hallway. If there had been more people, it would have been really crowded with no place to stand and wait. The downstairs was really cute. Huge dancefloor with lots of lights or mirrors, I can’t remember(it’s kind of hazy up there in my head). This place was chill. Good for a night when you want to dance but want to avoid a mosh pit.

Hahahaha. All I can do is laugh at this place. I can understand why individuals with no depth, sluts wanting to be barely-clothed and have a one-night stand, and Hollywood tourists would like this place. But if you have more than one brain cell… you can do better. In fact, even if you are one of the above mentioned people, you can do better. Even the cast of The Hills wouldn’t be caught dead here… I was ONLY going to this place because my boyfriend’s aunt was having a surprise party here… planned by an event planner paying the venue. Thus, the party guests were on a special list that deemed we wouldn’t have to pay to get in. The trendy douchebag at the door claimed he couldn’t find the list and let me in(of course, I AM a female) but made my boyfriend pay the $ 20 cover. We immediately called the event planner whom couldn’t get ahold of the appropriate Social employees whom should have been around to straighten the situation out. On top of that(at which point my boyfriend was quite unhappy); the crowd in there is SOLAME! People just stand around and don’t even know how to dance. It looked more awkward than a 16 year old’s school prom. This place is ridiculous. If you are going to hit up a «hollywood club» at least go to Beverly Hills or WeHo. This place is the ghetto version.

I came here for a Bar Review event a week or so after Law School began. They blocked up the entire second level for SW students, but after a while, it got a little too packed upstairs that I could barely move or breathe without inhaling a head full of hair. Earlier in the night, they had a bouncer trying to keep the two levels separate, but Jennie T and I made our escape now and then to take a breather downstairs, which was mainly, if not, completely empty and calm compared to the chaos that ensued upstairs. So this review is mainly to give background to the taco truck throwdown I know EVERYONE on Unilocal is dying to hear about(I know, all 0 of you). I would write it under the taco truck where the real action happened, but I really like that place and I don’t want to get banned: X Sooo.. .the story begins here, back in earlyish September. I met man-baby mohawky boy in school, and after hearing about the event, he asked if we could carpool, since we live relatively close to one another. Wanting to make friends, I agreed, since I thought this would be a cool opportunity to get to know one another. Of course, I invited the lovely Jennie T to come along. On the way to the event, manbaby bought a bigass bottle of whiskey to preparty in my car with. I could tell the night was going one of two ways: absolutely fan-fucking-tabulous or it was going to go to shit. Needless to say, it went to the latter. While we were at Social, I am not sure how much manbaby had to drink, but he became extremely obnoxious and belligerent. Bad sign. On the way out of the club, he kept rolling down my windows and cursing at the policemen. Which is fucking stupid because there are like, two cops per square foot in Hollywood around 1AM. Jennie T was hungry, so I thought.. .let’s go get tacos(since we couldn’t find any ghetto dog carts convenient on the way to the freeway). On the way to get tacos, belligerent manbaby kept complaining that he was either 1. going to piss in my car or 2. puke in it. I was getting pretty damn annoyed at this point, because he kept making a ruckus in the back while me and Jennie T were having a serious conversation in the front. We stop at the taco truck and I pull over to let manbaby out, thinking he could take care of himself. I stay in the car to chat with Jennie when I casually glance behind me and WHATTHEHELLDO I SPY But manboybaby throwing punches with a big ass 6 foot 300 lb Mexican man with two equally large backups in tow. In a deadpan voice, I tell Jennie«I think manboybaby is in a fight.» She thinks I’m kidding and looks behind just when I see manboybaby get punched in the face and kicked on the side. Jennie T rushes out to stop the fight.. .how brave. Prior to Jennie T being the little hero and running to save the dude, I was about the skip outta the joint. I don’t know this dude, I’m not going to die over him. I don’t mind being called a coward hahaha. The taco truck workers were gentlemen, however, and saw that we were two girls and totally backed off while I spent a good 15 min trying to get the motherfucker in my car. All the while he kept screaming insults at them in Spanish, and kept telling me to let go because his«pride» was at stake and that he didn’t need my help ’cause he can«call his buddies up for backup to fuck the guys over.» Hello? Have you seen yourself? You’re a chubby little asian boy around 4’11″.. .these guys are 6′ and 300 lbs. You think you and your wannabe gangster friends wanna die on account of your Pride? I think not. Anyways, longer story short.. .he happened to be pissing on their rented property, and the worker tried to stop him and thus the fight ensued. Ahhh.. .who knew law school was going to be high school???

I went here last night for a fraternity event, and honestly if it wasn’t for all the friends in attendance, I would have hightailed it out of there. I get that Hollywood has inflated drink prices, but this was a little much. For 2 shots my total before tip came out to $ 27 which was a bit ridiculous. Next, the bartender was just too full of himself. My friend was trying to get me a shot & gave the bartender his card and asked to close the tab, and bartender man had an epileptic fit«i can’t be closing tabs all night, you have to pay cash.» Totally ridiculous. We ended up going to the bar in the other room where the bartender looked a little sad but definitely much more helpful(and cuter if that makes a difference). The DJ for the night was a friend so I had no complaints, especially when requests for music was pretty much made instantly. The bouncers were really nice, which isn’t always the case in the Hollywood scene.

3 Stars We stumbled in here after Boulevard 3 next door. The vibe was cool, but the crowd was different. Last time it was a Persian/Armenian lookin crowd, but this time it was a mix. I think the girls got in for free and we paid 10 each for me and my boy… but that makes sense for after 1. We stayed for a few minutes, but I don’t really remember much. The girls had one drink here, I didn’t…and we took off to go to The Spot.

The two stars say it all: «Meh, I’ve experienced better.» This was the scene for Girls’ Night Out #2, and maybe the standard was set really high, thanks to our experience at Blvd 3 next door, but this club just couldn’t compare. I had gotten us on the guestlist, and all 6 of us rolled up, looking fantastic, long before the list was scheduled to close(11pm). And then we waited. And waited and waited and waited. Quite the buzz kill, let me tell you. Apologies to those who were on the receiving end of drunk phone calls during this time while we waited in line. You know who you are. The line was taking forever and we asked the bouncer what was taking so long and if there was a way to get in faster. No such luck. The fact that we were 6 hot girls didn’t help us get in an easier either. I’m not usually a proponent of such blatant sexism, but since it exists, I figure I might as well use it to my advantage. Again, no such luck. What really killed my buzz was having to pay cover even though we were on the list and and we had gotten there long before the cut off. That really put a damper on the night because we could have gone over to Blvd 3 for FREE – if we hadn’t wasted so much time in the line at Social. So, cover paid, we go inside, and… the $ 15 wasn’t worth it. The venue is kind of like a house. There’s the bar in one room and the dance floor playing Top 40 music reminded me of a living room. There’s another dance floor upstairs, but we didn’t make it there. The music selection was so-so at best, and the dance floor was super crowded and poorly planned… there was furniture in incovenient spots which allowed creepy old guys to sit and gape at us at ass-level while we tried to dance and make the best of the night. Ew. We ended up hanging out in the bar area before moving on to the Blue Goose. If it wasn’t for the lovely ladies I was with, the night would have been a total loss, but you know, we can have fun no matter where we are. We’ll just keep on steppin’ past Social right on over to Blvd 3 next time.

Nightlife Review So here’s the spot where you come unexpected for the ambiance waiting to ensue. Although the line here is always something to avoid, know your promotors and just get in early. Downstairs area boasts lowlit wood floored bar area while upstairs showcases a multi-room extravagance unmatched from any location so far. There’s a smaller bar upstairs which is recommended since mingling and stuff to that affect are situational occurrences to be embraced. There’s a room upstairs with DJ involved where you can get your dance on, and everything is lowlit. Like I’ve said millions of times on Unilocal,if you have a lowlit club, a sure-to-happen party will be in effect. Only the best venue owners know this secret. It doesn’t matter what ur place looks like, just turn down the lights and good things will come to you and your guests.

I actually don’t remember much since much pre-partying had been done prior to our arrival at Social. $ 15 dollar cover on the guestlist probably because we were with 7 guys and 1 girl… Ooops… No line when we arrived around 10:15 but there were a couple people drinking inside. Drinks were steep, 12 dollars for a Long Island if I remember correctly but the music was good– Mostly mashups and Top 40 stuff… Good looking crowd, ample space on the dance floor, unpretentious staff, at least when I went on a Saturday in May. Curious to know how it is on other nights…

Came here on a Saturday night for one of my man’s frat buddies birthday. We strolled in at about 11pm. There was no line which shocked me! The place is actually small. Its divided into 3 sections. One side is a bar/lounge. hat side was completely dead. The middle consists of like a lobby with stairs, but the stair were closed off for the night… maybe next time i wonder about the place. Now the dance floor was packed and the DJ was rockin. I was honestly not in a club mood that day… pretty much there by force but the music totally got me in the mod to party! The atmosphere is pretty god, not as awesome as Hyde or opera but ok. I’m definitely coming back. Maybe next time I will stay longer and be in a party mode!

What the french toast man! The drinks here are flipping expensive, but if you pregame it juuuuuuuust right you wont spend as much. Anyways I liked all the different dance floors you can hit up. Not digging the tunes upstairs? Then move your ass downstairs! The Dj’s where on their«A» game and did not disappoint at any moment. And hey getting in for free didn’t hurt either! So yeah neat place, I’ll gladly come back. PS: Oh yeah can someone tell me if there is there a dress code in this place? Everyone and their mom was wearing sweaters and t-shirts

My friends and I stopped by after hanging out at Blvd3 and I wasn’t blown away. sad, since I don’t get out much anymore I need to be blown away. The dance room upstairs was overly crowded, I recall a lot of shaking and I don’t mean body shaking. But the DJ was rockin’ the house, a lot more exciting than the music at blvd3. Some may consider it to be classy but I didn’t stay long enough to explore the place. I was definitely impressed with the restroom. I remember seeing lots of mirrors(I think). Can’t comment on the drinks since I dropped them on the floor as soon as soon as I took a sip… went back to Blvd3 and closed the party there.

Right about when I actually signed up for Unilocal and actually wrote my first review, I was here for the first time for a company party. One of the owners of the company has connections here. Getting here on a work night was horrible. Ever try getting to Hollywood on one of the busiest club nights? Last thing I want to do is miss an exciting event. Forget trying to find parking here in this area. So valet parking it is. Didn’t really want to do that but I was already running late. There was a lounge and bar area when you first enter where I believe is where everyone usually goes but it’s a private party after all. We actually have the main dining hall where it’s an open room set up like a gymnasium at the high school. I missed the cocktail hours since dinner was about to start. The gracious host had figured out after getting word that there were a few of us that didn’t get there until recently. He had invited us to the front bar where we were to order as many drinks as we wanted. Very generous in my opinion and very considerate. Probably because it’s a private party and a company one at that, the service was excellent. The dishes came out one after another so there was not a pause between dishes. Security kept our guests where our party was supposed to be so there wouldn’t be any others to crash it. We were free to roam around as we pleased. There was a balcony section where you can watch the dance floor. We had a wine and beer bar so that was cool. It just felt like prom or something where there was still a group of us that were there till the end. I guess I was volunteered to take home a center piece where I thought it had that jelly filled water retaining stuff to sustain the flowers that were in it. Actually it was thick broken glass that gave this giant vase lots of character. For once, valet delivered my car without a problem. Although, they could have done whatever they wanted out of my sight when I left it with them. After this event, I drove home to pack for my trip to Puerto Vallarta. I’m officially on vacation through the holidays.(yes, this review was long overdue since 2006, so shoot me)

Keep in mind, 4 stars is about the highest I can give a bar on my first time. 5 stars are all about consistency over time. But, this place is a doosie. This is not my usual kind of place. I’m more of a dive-bar girl than a velvet-rope, are-you-on-the-list, make-you-stand-in-line-even-though-there-is-no-one-inside kind of girl. But, I have to say, I liked it and would go back. The décor and atmosphere inside Social is wonderful. It had beautiful chandeliers, high ceilings, a black velvet covered pool table, dance floor upstairs, high-backed-leather-chairs, and I hate to be a typical Unilocal girl reviewer — but the bathrooms were AMAZING!!! The bathroom doors had this cool glass that allowed you to see out, but no one could see in. I think just the interior decorating alone would be worth it to see at least once. I came her for a free vodka night with CJ and the crowd, but was pleasantly surprised at how upscale and gorgeous it was inside. There was plenty of space to stand, to sit, and the music was not so loud that you could not have a conversation… important for meeting new people and reconnecting with friends. I didn’t get to eat in the restaurant because it was closed, but we looked at the tasting menu, and it sounded delicious. It’s a preset menu kind of place with the prices to pack a punch. Why 4 stars on a first time review? Truthfully, I have never been to an open-bar type party where the drinks were actually strong… And this was my downfall. Apparently, if you want to get drunk fast, have Christopher S. introduce you to whatever bartender he’s been schmoozing before you got there, and you will be set for the night. Amber was truly exceptional… an amazing bartender. She was smart, friendly, attentive, and makes a killer version of a bay breeze(and my favorite — a Grey hound). She even shook my hand and remembered my name at the end of the night. A true professional. Tips for the new Social Hollywood patron? 3 drinks by 10:30 and you’d think that I would be able to driving home at some point? Not if Amber is pouring. She treats you well. Think about stopping at 2, and bring comfortable walking shoes so you can walk to Denny’s or some other eatery before driving home. Better yet, make someone else bring you and drive you home. Ha!

Because of this godforsaken place, J. Lo hates me. He hates me for trying to convince him that he should come out with me, that there would be no cover since we were on the list, music should be somewhat decent, and that it wouldn’t be COMPLETELYFULL of Hollywood douches and douchettes. But of course, the minute we roll up to «da club-club,» I’m ready to eat my words. 1. The whole effing street is brimming with major douche-ness, as my senses are overwhelmed by the floral scent of vaginal irrigation systems. 2. Seeing there is no cover before 10, no one is allowed in until 10:01, when a $ 25 entrance fee is required. I had been planning to «Make It Rain» that night, but I couldn’t even afford a slight drizzle with my leftover $ 2. 3. We walk into a ridiculous club mix of Sade and Luther Vandross. Had the original artists heard this horrific rendition, they would’ve slapped the DJ silly. Hell, I was ready to pull the trigger but realize that a-holes tend to grow back in multiples. 4. A non-alcoholic Red Bull pulled up a $ 6 tab. And there wasn’t even a Cracker Jack prize in sight. 5. So because of this disgusting hell-hole, Anh T. didn’t get laid after enduring the longest hour ever at «da club-club.» And that, my friend, is another hell in itself.

Had dinner in the restaurant which was good, and seriously tried a bit of everything. Which was all interesting and good. I wanted to do a tasting since I was planning on an event there, but they couldn’t accommodate, so whatever. Held an event there for about 80 people upstairs and used the«recreation» room and the room at the end, opposite the green room, and it was horrible. They said it could fit a certain number of people comfortably, which was a total lie, since the wait staff kept on bumping into the back of people’s chairs to get to tables. They said they were giving us the centerpieces and then when we were leaving, some other guy said no and was rude about it. It’s too Hollywood snobby for me and I will never host another event. Might go back to the restaurant again, but probably only if someone else insists. Two stars because their attitude sucked for the sales and catering end and the restaurant saved their butt from getting no stars.

Citrus @ Social Hollywood Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening and the food & dessert tasted great. I highly recommend the Scallop Scramble Eggs for appetizer(seared scallop on a bed of chopped scallop covered in a creamy sauce to resemble the look of scrambled eggs). The Lobster Fennel and Sea Bass were very good as well. For dessert I recommend the Orange Soufflé. It comes with a side of vanilla bean ice-cream, a side of orange and grapefruit slices, a side of caramel, and a side of whip cream. Delicious!(4 stars) The service was great! We arrived 20 minutes after our reservation time and were seated promptly by the host with a smile. The waitress recommended great wine, food, and dessert selections. She was also very attentive and not once rushed us in any way.(5 stars) Ambiance was great too. I love the elegant and trendy club like décor furnished with lime green and white colored chairs and booth seating with pillows for extra back cushion. The bathroom was very clean and the bathroom doors were decorative.(4 stars) Attire: dressy and trendy Valet parking $ 10

Came here for a Thanksgiving event, so the crowd was like 98% asian. I hear that’s very untypical of this place, though. But aaanywho. This place really intrigued me. The layout is unlike any other club I’ve been to, it really reminded me of a house with all these different rooms. When you walk in, it’s like a big foyer. Off to the right is a bar and a lounge area, and off to the left is the restaurant section with a tinyass smoking patio. Now, I’m not a smoker, but the majority of people I know are, and once this place got crowded, they started regulating how many people could go out on the smoking patio at a time. There was a friggin line! Why in the world would you make a patio for a hugeass club in LA the size of nothing~!? still boggles my mind. Anyway, if you walk towards the back, it opens up to a huuuuge ballroom area/dance floor. It reminded a little of the dance floor at Vanguard. Tables around the border, a small bar towards the front, the DJ on the side. The music playing that night was excellent too. Upstairs you’ll find another room with a smaller dance floor with house/techno playing. Another room has a pool table and random games. kinda odd, yet kinda cool. Like I said, all the different rooms made me feel like I was in a mansion… but with bars and dance floors. I really liked it, and if it wasn’t so hard to get in normally, I’d probably go here again.

I really loved the interior of Social, it’s right next to the even more beautiful Boulevard3… The historic building is nicely restored and super swanky upstairs. I was invited to a PR mixer event here so I figured it’d be the perfect time to invite my fellow publicist girl friend and check it out. There are several rooms upstairs with modern-style couches and plenty of room to mingle. We spent a lot of our time rotating to new rooms and compared notes with other publicists– do you know so and so? What are you doing for Fashion Week? Etc. It would be neat to go to Boulevard3 and here for a night out with the girls I think.
