Drove by tonight to make sure — yup, definitely closed, and will be soon replaced with a SushiStop. Hopefully it’ll be an improvement!

Great prices for Sushi. Just remember to bring cash, and all will be fine. Nothing fancy. Affordable prices. Limited seating, and loud music. This is Sushi Mac.

Solid three stars. Cash only. For 3 bucks, you can get a plate of sushi. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone particular about sushi or fish, but when I would come home on break from uni and had $ 15 in my bank account, I loved coming here for a cheap lunch while catching up with old friends.

If I have gone here before Sushi Stop, I would’ve thought this place was pretty cool. This place might have been the«original» along Sawtelle, but Sushi Stop one-up them. Sushi Mac offers ONLY sushi for $ 3/roll, and depending on the type of roll, it’s 4 – 8 pieces. The Dragon Ball is basically a deep fried fish ball which was pretty tasty. The food was good, but I was disappointed that they don’t serve miso soup, in which I was craving at the time. It was a good place to try, but I don’t think this will be my first choice the next time I’m craving sushi whenever I’m in the area. [TIP] Cash only

Sushi Mac was okay. First time coming here because I’ve always gone to Sushi Stop instead which is just down the street and based upon a similar concept. It’s $ 3/plate. My friend and I shared a fresh eel roll(8pieces), spicy tuna roll(8pieces), spicy dynamite roll(4 pieces), and a spicy shrimp tempura roll(3 pieces). The rolls didn’t taste or look super fresh, but for $ 3, I guess you can’t really expect much. I would say the 8 piece rolls are worth the price, but the 3 piece rolls are not. Nothing tasted super good, but nothing tasted bad either. Everything was just okay. And I didn’t really see any dessert items on the menu or posted. Service was pretty fast and plus points for the self-serve spicy mayo which I dipped everything in. Didn’t use a drop of soy sauce, though I admit the spicy mayo IS heavy and would probably use less the next time I go. Last note, although this seems like a cheap place, it really adds up fast because you want to try for variety and the portion size is not large at all!(Random fact: they color-code their plates, red=spicy and regular=nonspicy)

TWOTHINGS: 1) Yes, this is the McDonald’s of sushi. 2) I like McDonald’s. BONUSTIP: Spicy Dynamite Mac Roll FTFW. I’m pretty sure you can figure out what the second ‘F’ is for.

I would order the cooked stuff from this place. Unagi rolls and fried rolls you can’t go wrong, but the quality of the sushi isn’t that fresh with the actual nigiri selections. I would steer away from the yellowtail(when I ordered this it was particularly chewy and tasted old). Edamame. Good choice! It’s $ 3 rolls — they don’t make the rolls then and there, they’re pre-made(possibly that day). But for a quick lunch, it really hits the spot. You just have to know for $ 3 you’re not getting the freshest fish around. And that’s okay. For $ 3. Also, waitstaff is incredibly friendly and nice. And if all else fails, you can always lather their spicy mayo sauce on everything. Mmmm.

I went back recently and plates are now $ 3.00, including tax. I still like Sushi Stop better for the variety, but this place has the one-up with the self-serve spicy mayo and eel sauce stations. It’s amazing, and the sauces are delicious. Gotta love the«Beware of Loud Music — Store Policy» on the sign too.

Came here today because I was in the area… but usually the 3rd street one is where I go. Although today was okay, it was not my best Sushi Mac moment. We got seated right away which is nice. The staff was attentive. But the cooked albacore was an odd color today and although I ate one and it tasted alright, it weirded me out a little bc it wasnt the normal color so I chose not to eat the rest of that plate. The shrimp tempura on california roll had barely any of the sweet eel sauce, which I could have gotten up to go over to the to go area and get some, but it;s besides the point, not made how it usually is. The dynamite roll and spicy tuna was delicious though. No problem there. Another issue… as I was on my last two plates… there was this horrible bleach/chlorine smell coming from the dishwasher area behind the curtain… and it was so strong and did not go away. It’s hard to eat when you are breathing in chemicals. totally messes up your palate. So today was 3 stars… maybe it’s just this location because the other one is always good. ***As always, remember Sushi Mac is CASHONLY!

There are two schools of thoughts when it comes to sushi consumption: there’s the sushi snobs, who believe that even the simplest of California Roll should be assembled with the highest quality cucumbers, and have the price tag to match. The other group prefers sushi that allows them to stuff their gullets until their pants no longer button properly. I am definitely of the latter school, and if I can get belly-busting portion without breaking the bank, then I am in like Flynn. And that brings me to one of my favorite cheap eats places in all of LA, Sushi Mac. $ 3 buys you a plate of whatever you’d like on their menu. Granted, its limited but there’s something on there to appease any palate. I personally like to go for the red plates(aka«Spicy») so S. Yellowtail, S. Tuna, and S. Salmon(no roe) are my go-tos. Other items to go for: Dragon Ball Blue Crab Hand Roll Spicy Scallop Roll Spicy Dynamite Mac Roll Also, be prepared for their spicy mayo. This is a grand concoction, but its easy to go overboard on. Now, this isn’t Akasha or some fancy-schmancy sort of place. It’s casual dining at its best, and most honest. All of the seating is around the preparation area, and can sit about 30 – 40 people around. Be nice to your neighbor, and be prepared to share some of your personal space because those stools can get mighty packed. It bugs me when I’m reading reviews and people complain that this place doesn’t have the«greatest sushi ever.» Well, duh. Of course it doesn’t. There’s a reason you’re only paying $ 3. And not to bag on Sushi Mac either. Considering how much I’m paying, I am quite happy with the quality of all of the rolls I’ve received there. The place can be pretty packed come Friday and Saturday nights. And the chefs really love to pump some CRAZY loud techno music on the weekends, so don’t come here prepared with conversation topics. During the day on the weekends, or for lunch however, this place is great. Even during the busiest times, I’ve never waited more than 15 minutes for a seating since the chefs make sure the turnaround time is quick. It’s in a strip mall people. Don’t come here and expect a gourmet experience. But if you want something to fulfill a sushi craving, and save yourself from having to shell out $ 30, then this is your jam. If you really want to stretch that 3 bucks even more, go for the 8 piece plates.

I am utterly unimpressed by Sushi Mac. Although each roll starts at $ 3, the rolls are minuscule, extremely plain, and very skimpy on the fish. The costs add up like crazy and by the time you’re full, you’ve spent more than $ 20 which could have gone to a good sushi restaurant! Their«special» rolls that cost slightly more are just plain things dunked into a deep fryer. This might be a great place for high schoolers who are only now just diving into the sushi world but for anybody who’s ever had a good piece of sushi, this will be a disappointment. I used to say you get what you pay for. Sushi Mac proves me wrong. Sometimes you get less than what you paid for.

I very recently started eating sushi and haven’t learned to love it yet so I’m probably not the best person to rate a sushi restaurant. $ 3/plate = cheap Sushi was okay. I got full off of two plates. Not sure if that’s normal or not.

I love sushi, so going to this place was somewhat of a painful experience for me. The good: it’s cheap. Everything is $ 3, tax included. Convenient for trying a lot of different rolls. Parking is free and plentiful, shared with Marshalls. The bad: The selection was uninteresting and not authentic. The menu largely consisted of American-ized rolls. The nigiri had really, really thin slices of fish in them, and they didn’t taste very fresh. I somewhat enjoyed some of the tempura-based rolls. Overall, the taste was rather fishy, but not in the way you’d want from sushi.

Sushi Mac is pretty cheap, and that’s reflective in the quality of the sushi. It’s definitely not the best sushi I’ve ever had(no where even close), but it’s a nice, quick option when you only have a 30 minute lunch break. I like that some of their fancy roles come in pieces of 4 — it allows you to try a few different items instead of being stuck with one big 8 piece roll. The Spicy Tuna/Albacore is pretty yummy. Cash only!

I revisited this place for the first time in almost a year but was still greeted with«Hisashiburi!» by a friendly familiar face(waiter? manager? not sure — I remember he went to Japan for a little while and came back to work behind the sushi counter, so he’s kind of a jack-of-all-sushi, if you will). That was a pleasant surprise. They raised their prices yet again, which admittedly made me disappointed, but their sushi is as good as it always was. I love their salmon(it’s always so sweet and fresh) and I always order an assortment of nigiri sushi. The dynamite mac roll is hard to resist, even though I dislike cooked rolls(and most rolls for that matter). It’s a mixture of fish rolled up like regular maki rolls, topped with spicy mayo, and stuck in the broiler to char the mayo and make the rice nice and crispy. Yum! I can usually go up to 10 plates if I’m really hungry, so dollar for dollar, it’s a pretty reasonable. It’s nice to stop by here for a quick lunch if you’re in the Sawtelle area. It’s not the BEST sushi ever, especially if you’re a sushi snob, but it gets the job done, with awesome trance music blasting in the background.

Okay, so maybe I’m not a sushi pro. Look, I’ve been eating sushi from Hide since I could hold my own wang. The sushi here at Sushi Mac is, well, worth the money you pay. I mean, shit, at $ 3 a plate(cash only/no tax), what are you expecting??? For all you sushi elitists, skip this place – if for no other reason than I don’t want to hear you needlessly bitch about their product. For everyone else(and Jenny K, I resent the«college kid» comment… condescending to say the least), rock this bitch for all it’s worth. The spicy tuna/tempura shrimp roll is jammin’. Kappa maki, easy and affordable. Average California rolls. Nothing here is exceptional EXCEPT the all-you-can-pump Unagi sauce(don’t know the official name, but it’s that sweet, delicious sauce that always tops your Unagi) and the all-you-can-douse Spicy Mayo. The sushi chefs here are more like short order sushi hackers, as they sometimes can’t even get the roll to hold together, but I’ve NEVER gotten sick from their product and, as it was down the street from one of my former residences, I can’t help but give them a thumb up. (My friend enthusiastically suggests the Dynamite roll. I’ve never had the courage, but she’s insistent.) =)

What can I say about this place… It’s not the best sushi in West LA however for the price and the authenticity I’m an consistent eater of SUSHIMAC… Everything is 3 dollars per plate, it’s cash only and you’re sittin’ in a U shaped table. The california rolls are ok at best. I’m gonna agree that California Roll Factory has better California rolls. The rolls are decent however the only thing that is worth gettin’ here is the«Dynamite» & «Spicy Dynamite». Artery clogging orgasm in your MOUTH… Add it with the Spicy Mayo sauce on the side and it is HEAVENONEARTH… Super cool and friendly Japanese sushi artists as well. The girl has the best and proper technique I have ever seen and all the guys have the same AJ from the Backstreet boys Facial hair trimming… It’s legit and check it out… You have to try the Dynamite. SPICY or REGULAR. Cause it’s DYNNNNNNOOOOOOOOMITE!!!

One of my favorite sushi joints in town. $ 3.00 a plate — love the eel sauce! Fresh and delicious sushi across the board. Great for lunch! My husband loves the spicy mayo sauce too. Check it out!

Don’t come here expecting $ 3 /plate of sushi to be the best sushi in the world. However, the price for the sushi is unbeatable and you can get as much sauce as you want FORFREE. Free green tea as well. CASHONLY. People have been complaining about the prices steadily going up but there’s something called inflation and increase in taxes. You have to realize that tax is almost 10% now in California — get over it.

oh poo. sushi mac now costs an extra quarter for a plate of sushi. inflation from $ 2.75 to $ 3.00(tax incl.). my girlfriends and i came for our love of(spicy) dynamite mac roll, and that’s about it. something about this deliciously mayo+sriracha topped and baked sushi rolls that satisfies our salivating selves. we’re not even sure what’s in the middle of the sushi, but it’s amazing. i’m a huge fan of spicy tuna rolls, but definitely not from sushi mac. i like my sushi rice beautifully and perfectly intact around my raw fish, but this didn’t happen at sushi mac. my sushi looked like it was made by a 3 year old :[ 4 of us came around 8 pm last sunday and the restaurant was still pretty empty, but after about 10 minutes people started pouring in and every bar stool were filled! we must’ve brought the business to sushi mac or something! yes, beware of loud music. as soon as people started pouring in, the sushi chef bumped up the music and sushi mac turned into techno sushi mac like always. remember again, cash only. no cash, no average sushi love.
