It’s a great idea and could be seriously funny. There were definitely funny moments. The best part was the musical improvisations – the cast is very talented at making songs up on the spot. However, there is one major issue – they chose to do a movie(based on audience suggestions) that I knew absolutely nothing about.(I’d say I’m fairly average in my knowledge of movies.) I could totally not appreciate the differences between the actual movie and the black version, which is the main attraction of the show. Since they only do one movie per show, I felt a bit left in the dark for the whole show… maybe it’s a good show for people who know a lot about movies. There was a moment or two when I thought some of the actors were a little mean to the other actors during their improv routine. Also, I thought there were some loud insensitive people in the(mostly non-black) audience that felt like they had a free license to throw out borderline inappropriate /racist suggestions for the improv, even though they probably thought that it was OK given what the show was about. Definitely a little awkwardness at moments. Good idea for a show, but I think it needs a little work on the format and, I don’t know how long this show has been running, but maybe a little time for it to gel together. I’d come watch it again(if it’s still running) in maybe 6 months, but I’d give it only one more chance.
