A friend brought me over here at 7 cause apparently they set up some Taco Stand outside this restaurant. $ 1 tacos. $ 1TACOS!!! EEEYYAYAAARGG!!! They’re pretty damn good too. Just watch out cause there’s a bunch of 3-foot-tall central Americans running around asking for money/tacos. It makes things uncomfortable when you feel like a giant. But the Taco stand outside, for all its delicous-ness, does lack any sort of appeal. I would NOT have bothered trying this had my friend not recommended this. Oh, and they got Taco de Tripas? Hells yeah!

This is a little whole in the wall that serves some of the best Mexican food in the Westlake area. It’s actually one of the few Mexican restaurants in this community. You’re probably wondering, «What? Few Mexican restaurants in an LA neighborhood?» The thing that distinguishes Westlake from your standard LA hood is that it has a distinctly Central American flavor to it. You’re more likely to find a Guatemalan or Salvadoran restaurant here. That food is great, too, but today I needed the food I was raised on… super spicy, tear-inducing Mexican grub. I only had to walk a block and a half from my job to get to this spot. For a reasonable $ 9, I had a fantastic lunch of camarones a la diabla(delicious succulent shrimp in a spicy and tangy red salsa), piping hot beans, rice, corn tortillas, and a good sized salad. The salad had lettuce, tomatoes, and slices of fresh avocado. And rather than coming with dressing, they gave me slices of lime to squeeze into the salad. It added a lot of flavor and was certainly a healthy alternative to your standard dressing. Let me warn you that the camarones a la diabla are no joke. This ish is not just incredibly tasty, but also extraordinarily spicy. Let me put it like this: It separates the men from the boys. I can eat fresh habaneros, but even I was was teary-eyed and sniffling at the end of this hearty meal. I washed it all down with an agua de piña that had just the right amount of sugar. Most restaurants add an excessive amount, but this place got it just right. At night, they have a guy preparing tacos at the entrance(carne asada, al pastor, chorizo, tripas, and more). Each taco costs only one buck and comes loaded with meat. They’re as flavorful as can be. If you find yourself in Westlake or Downtown LA, come and try the tacos. Y si te crees muy chingon, pide los camarones! Two thumbs up on this spot!

I love these hole in the wall restaurants now ever since I came back from Mexico myself, and all I can say is that the food is as delicious or even better than when I tried it, while I was a kid in my innocent days. I love the Tlayudas here that tasted way better than other places I know about, and this one cost much less for the same portion size and even better flavor. I also tried the Grilled chicken and it was Fantastic. They Give you such a huge portion for around 5 – 8 dollars so it really fills you up for less. The Tortillas Are also Homemade?! really they don’t just cook them up in the microwave or reheat them on a pan; they actually make them for you and cook them up for you so you know it’s authentic food. My whole family loved it so give it a try, you never know it might surprise you: D

This place is alright. Definitely authentic Oaxacan food. I ordered the Chicken Mole and it was ok. The sauce was thinner than usual but still flavorful. I actually appreciated that it wasn’t as thick as usual. The chicken was low grade and fatty, with lots of bones and skin. The beans were runny, the rice unspectacular. The tortillas were unusual: they were giant corn tortillas. Literally the size of burrito flour tortillas but made from corn. I’m sure other things they have are better.

I personally know the owner and all of the cooks. i come here often because it is so close to work… great food… authentic from oaxaca. their tacos are pretty good along with mulitas… great lunch specials 4 tacos and a drink $ 5… their specialty are tlayudas… imagine a corn tortilla as big as a medium pizza… it contains a layer of black beans then topped off with cabbage tomato and avocado along with your choice of: tasajo(thin slice of beef), cecina(marinated beef), mexican chorizo or a combination of all 3. one probably feeds 2 or more easily… they have burritos, tortas, mulitas(think of a fried tortilla sandwich with meat and mozzarella, huaraches, sopes, empanadas, sincronizadas(quesadilla with your choice of meat) they also have combination plates with rice, beans, salad and big corn tortillas… i recommend PECHUGAEMPANIZADA… its breaded chicken breast… or tacos dorados, rolled up chicken tacos fried and topped off with lettuce sour cream and cheese. they also have pozole, and caldos huge selection of mexican food… no credit cards though… just cash… everything made to order… everything under $ 10
