What an authentic cool venue and art gallery! Went here for my friends exhibition and birthday celebration. It was such a lovely evening full of fabulous art, people, drinks and food. The owner is so humble and sincere he makes you feel at home. This area is relatively safe, parking is plentiful and there’s a nice view of downtown. Overall fantastic location and super clean and functional facility. I loved the Moroccan inspired patio is very romantic.m. Definitely can’t wait to visit again. Highly recommend this to locals and out of towers who are looking to experience something new and unique. The tacos that night were so incredibly tasty! I didn’t catch the name of the caterers but they were so yummy. What a fun and memorable night. Thank you for creating this beautiful space!

I visited this space twice for a concert and dance class. Really enjoyed being in this unique space. The spacious gallery is attached to a shady back patio. This place attracts a nice crowd. They have a listing of events that I hope to check out. It is also being rented out for private events.

After the first time my guy attended an event here, he came home and said«I found our wedding venue!» That’s high praise coming from him! A little over a year later(last month) we had our ceremony and reception there. During that year, we went to several events held there and we really liked the look of the place both during the day and at night. We had our ceremony at 6 pm and then the reception went until about 11 pm. There is the indoor art gallery as well as the outdoor venue space. We took advantage of both. Reyes, the owner, was a delight to work with from the start all the way to the day after. Everything he offers for the venue rental price is unbelievable! Definitely the best deal in town. He made everything so easy and took a lot of stress off of us. I highly recommend this place for any party you might want to have. Small or large-ish groups seem to work well. Even if you don’t want to throw your own party right now, check out the different super fun events he has going on there.

This place is great. It’s an art gallery that hosts all kinds of interesting events throughout the month. From music cd-release parties, Brazilian Dance Night and my favorite the Sunday Monthly Curuye Cuban Salsa Party to Fashion Shows, Day of the Dead celebrations, and Arts and Crafts Marketplace(Caracol Market). The gallery itself is open Wed-Fri 1pm-5pm What an eclectic way to use the space! From the outside it looks a bit like an art-deco building painted a terracota orange you cant miss it from the street. There is street parking but there is also free parking adjacent to the gallery inside a lot. The gallery itself is quite spacious with two art-filled restrooms that are always clean. The backyard is huge, many events happen there in the summer. they have plants and a stage, great set-up for music, nice breeze, good outdoor lighting and an awning that covers some of the outside space. On Cuban nights the owner makes food that she sells for a decent price(superfoods salad often with beans or quinoi and delicious spinach empanadas). Mojitos, water and drinks are also sold. This is also a great place if you are looking to host an event and need a space. It can hold over 100 people(inside) over 200(outside). Owners are nice, however i do know that they charge for the use of tables and chairs so you’d either bring your own, or pay extra per table and chair. I’ve seen many of their art shows and these are the least interesting to me about the space. The only art show that was remotely good was the Day of the Dead Altars from two years ago. What’s great about this place is the community involvement through cultural events for the whole family.

I have attended a few events at Tropico de Nopal and have always been more than satisfied on my long drive home. This place has a lot of culture and it shows that they work hard in bringing the community together to enjoy music and art. I have attended a few of their Samba Society events and the band and crowd are just great. If you enjoy Brazilian culture and dancing to live samba, this is the perfect place for you. They also serve Caipirinhas at ~$ 6 and they are pretty strong. The events happen in their back patio which has a really nice setting. I’ve paid $ 5 to $ 10 for entry depending on the night. They also have a nice gallery with very interesting and powerful art. There is street parking in the neighborhood but it can be a bit dangerous so be careful.

Samba Society meets here for an incredible community gathering of Brasilian musicians, dancers, and people who love the hot, passionate culture of samba. I had a blast at their Labor Day party, and the gallery was full of a variety of artists, intriguing, profound, subtle, and unusual. Beautiful people, wonderful atmosphere, easy access, lovely food & drinks outdoors, I sure hope I can attend more live music events at this venue.

Last night I attended Ofrendas 2009, the annual Calavera Fashion Show and Walking Altars. The artists were fabulous! This gallery always features fabulous exhibits. The show was held on the back patio where there was a runway and DJ playing excellent music for the models and the hosts/announcers were fun too. I LOVEART and FASHION!

If you’re in the Echo Park area, this is a great place to visit if you have a couple of hours to spare(at most!). They have great cultural exhibits in art and fashion. We always make it a point to visit around Day of the Day to see their amazing altar installations. Street parking is always available.
