Great pastries, salads and sandwiches. Service is great as well. A bit on the pricier side, but that’s probably a Los Gatos thing. Love their atmosphere, especially their patio. We love their cookies the most! Great to pop in after a morning at the library.

Stopped by for breakfast before a morning hike. Croissant was dense, not light and flakey. Cappuccino and latte were good. Breakfast sandwich was nothing special. Although they bring the food and drinks to your table, service was not friendly or welcoming. No good morning or a smile, similar to the one on Winchester. Won’t be coming back. There are lots of other places that are more welcoming that I would rather spend my money at. I don’t know how these rude cafes stay in business.

Well, I am not impressed. The taco salad is what I ordered and it was a made of arugula with shredded cabbage, chicken breast, no tomato or olive or lettuce… the dressing tasted like creamy Italian and the cheese was feta. As a mexicana, it really irritates me how people will throw feta cheese on a dish. Just because it kinda looks like queso fresco, doesn’t mean it tastes like it. And I do like arugula, but it isn’t big in Mexico, lol. Anyway, if I pay $ 15 for a taco salad, I expect greatness. Oh… and they don’t serve beer or wine. Sigh.

This place has really yummy and fresh salads. Downside is there is not too much seating so on a weekday lunch, it can be hard to find a table.

Stumbled upon this place randomly exploring downtown Los Gatos. What attracted me was the name lol I love unique names. I was kind weary of coming in cuz of all the negative /so-so reviews but I give every place a chance off my personal experience. The inside is like a cute little café with a few tables and chairs. They have breakfast items such as burritos, and lox bagel plates. They have plenty of hot and cold sandwiches. The staff here are really helpful and nice. The food came out rather quickly. They bring out the food to your table as well. I opted for the Hero Sandwich. I’m pretty picky with my sandwiches but every element blended so well together, I was pleasantly surprised. I’ve also never had Brie in my sandwiches and it was fantastic! Would recommend! Cute spot to have lunch with your family, or another person. I want to try their Mediterranean Chicken Sandwich as well as their Tomato Basil Soup next Time! Thanks Purple Onion!

My boyfriend and I were looking for a good breakfast place in the area when he came across this place on Unilocal listings. Luckily, we came in before business picked up, but even then, food came fairly quickly and orderly. Ambience is fantastic, not too loud-not too quiet, cost was decent. Very friendly service from everyone!

All I wanted was 2 turkey sandwiches. One with condiments and one without. Apparently their online order service couldn’t handle this. I unchecked the grain bread and ordered the offered sub croissant for $ 1.00 extra. It let me uncheck the greens. What my son picked up was his order, turkey with everything, and mine that was made with the grain bread(which I am allergic to) and no croissant in sight. For $ 10.95 priced sandwiches to go, they should have had more than the tiniest slice of provolone that I have ever seen, and a very scant amount of meat. The turkey, what there was of it, was dry and tasteless. To top it off, a pile of greens was in my box with the sandwich. No thank you. I will stick with Los Gatos Meats, but they are not open on Sundays. It’s unfortunate because they are definitely 5 star. Purple Onion is a no star in my book.

What a cute little café! My friend was craving a salad, so some Los Gatos locals recommended Purple Onion. We came in around 12:30 on a sunny Sunday. Most of the tables were full but there wasn’t anybody in front of us in line, and we got our food very quickly. I ordered the slipper steak sandwich, she ordered a chicken cabbage salad, and my other friend ordered a taco salad. The portions were huge and we all loved our food! My plate contained a large side salad with some sort of oily dressing that I wasn’t a big fan of, but it wasn’t really objectionable in any way. The bread of my sandwich was soft on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside, just the way I like it! It was covered end-to-end with generous portions of bleu cheese and steak. Los Gatos seems to have its fair share of cafes like this, but Purple Onion has jumped to the top of my list for when I want to grab a quick meal.

This was our Plan-B option for a late lunch suggested by a local that lived in the area. We were supposed to go to Los Gatos café but the wait was ridiculous. Located in a cute part of town. A walk away from downtown. Small place but cozy. My friend got the vegetarian sandwich and salad. She liked it. My lox plate was good but the bagel was hard after a couple minutes. I should’ve eaten it when it was warm.

Weaksauce: when I order my salad with no meat(ie hold the chicken), and do not get a discount. That’s a pet peeve of mine. Everyone knows the meat is the most expensive part of any salad. I just paid $ 13 for lettuce, a few dried apricots, a few pistachios, and a little bit of blue cheese. Total rip-off. Do the vegetarians a solid and give us a price break, please?

Thought I’d be forgiving and try this place again. The woman light brown hair, glasses somewhere north of 39 yrs young was very sharp, very attentive, & made the lunch experience very pleasant. 5 Stars for her! She even came over to our table and remembered that something was different from what I had originally ordered. What an improvement from the last time I was a guest of this place! Tuna melt still great, egg n muffin so good, meatloaf sandwich was excellent. Salad was drowning in oil and for some reason our order came out after the five people who we preceded.

Tuesday November 17th, 12:01 pm I really wish I didn’t have this experience today because I have been a happy customer here before(though mostly at the other location on Winchester.) I came during the lunch rush(forgetting the time) and hungry with an appointment I needed to get to in 5 minutes. When I realized that the line was even too long to get a pasty I grabbed a bag of chips and walked to the register and stood on the side eager to get the young mans attention between customers to ask if it possible to just pay for this(my lunch of a bag of chips) or did I need to stand in the same line to order items? He noticed me but turned to the next person in line. As his current transaction had not started yet, I caught his eye to the point he could no longer ignore me. I asked«can I just pay for this here or did I need to wait in the…» «What?» he interrupted, seemingly annoyed at my presence. «Can I just pay for this here or do???» I said to his scowling face. «You mean you want to cut in line??? Again cutting me of before I could finish my sentence. His rudeness wash shocking! I may have then finally gotten my whole sentence out as I left, putting the chips on the counter and leaving with out having made a purchase and feeling really insulted. The others in neighboring businesses to whom I told my story responded«oh is that the guy who is so-and-so and has so-and-so?» His is rudeness is notorious it seems. Did you know you were in the hospitality industry? In which shaming customers has no place? There were countless other ways to handle that particular situation and experience. If you decide to stay in the industry might I suggest learning some of those ways.

I love purple and finding a purple café, I should give it a try even though I’m not hungry. I ordered lox plate which is a good choice. A bagel, smoked salmon, capers, thinly sliced onions, cucumbers, two types of cream cheese. It delicious and perfect. My best bet is the blood orange lemonade. It’s a must although quite pricey. I wish it’s refillable. I’ll come back here because of the lemonade plus staff are wearing a cute shirt and they were very friendly!

We came by here on a nice sunny weekday for brunch prior to a sailing trip so my review is obviously biased by the general elation surrounding me. The shop is a bit on the smaller side and oddly laid out so if you’re sitting in front you’re going to have people brush by you on the way to the registers. They are cheerful and the service reflects that. I ordered a coffee and a egg o muffin with chicken which did not disappoint. The price was higher than other run of the mill places but it’s Los Gatos so what did you expect with a lamborghini showroom right opposite you?

I’m in Los Gatos every Sunday morning, so I’ve passed Purple Onion Café alot but have never stopped in. This past weekend I was wanting to try something different so in I went. Cute little café with indoor as well as patio seating. Since it was a tad chilly, I opted to grab a seat inside with a window view of the patio(best of both worlds?). As you walk in, there are chalkboard menus over head and display cases with sandwiches, salads and sweets. Since it was still morning, I opted for breakfast. Their menu offers breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches and quiche. I love quiche and theirs looked delicious so I ordered the ham quiche which comes with a baby green salad. I also ordered a triple mocha. The total was a little over $ 13 which I think is pretty pricey but then again it’s Los Gatos so I guess it’s average. My order was brought to my table pretty quickly. Since it was my first time here, I didn’t realize I needed to grab my own silverware and napkins. So when my quiche came, it would have been nice for the server to let me know where these items were. Luckily I found them along with some Tabasco. Mocha was uninspiring. Cute little creamy design on top but tasted watery and not nearly hot enough. Quiche was great. Light, fluffy and the crust was delicious. The only thing I was bummed about was that since the slice was pretty thick, the center didn’t get warmed so four bites into this slice of eggy goodness I got a fork full of cold ham. Other than that, I’d totally order this again. Side baby green salad was not good. The greens were fresh but boring. The dressing literally tasted like straight olive oil with zero seasoning. I would opt for another of their salads(fruit, pasta, etc.) for an additional charge I’m sure. The lunch options looked delicious and the blood orange lemonade sounds amazing so ill be back to try those for sure.

This little café attracts all the dogs and dog owners. We brought our pup here to join us for lunch and we were comfortably seated outdoors next to so many other dogs :) The service and food were equally good. We had their: — Three Cheese Tomato Melt(hot sandwich; $ 12.95) — Hero Sandwich(cold sandwich. great for meat lovers; $ 11.95) — blood orange lemonade(with FREE refills!) I’d definitely come back for their sandwiches & to explore other menu items but I’ll probably ask them to substitute something else for their free side salad. Even though it comes complimentary w/every sandwich, that dressing didn’t do it for me. That’d be my only complaint.

This place was packed for brunch and lunch. It’s simple and very chill and it’s on the corner of Main. Parking is limited and will need to be found on the street. It seemed like people were just strolling in with their doggies or friends. The café’s food was just ok. 1. Tomato basil soup-average tomato soup 2. Zucchini bread-pretty yummy 3. Lattes and Tilly coffees-can’t go wrong with these! 4. Spinach Quiche-average, and not warm 5. Tomato and 3 cheese sandwich-this was the best tasting out of everything. It better be for $ 11.95. Hmm… 6. Brocolli salad-was just ok. I can get this at Whole Foods. Next time, if I do stop in here, it would just be for coffee and/or pastry.

I heard this place had really good sandwiches so my girlfriend and I came here post workout. Don’t worry. We’re not one of those douche-couples that says«couples that workout together, stay together.» We just like to make room for food. I had the Mediterranean Chicken sandwich. It was very flavorful and, in a way, reminded me of pizza without being nearly as fatty. My girlfriend had the Thai Turkey and it was okay but sort of on the bland side. A nice place to have lunch but not a must have

A cool café in downtown Los Gatos. My friend and I ordered the mediterranean chicken sandwich with mozzarella, red peppers, sun-dried tomato mayo on a francese roll. It came with an arugula and carrot side salad. The sandwich contents were yummy, the only complaint I had about it was the roll. The francese roll itself was soft and light but it had a lot of powdery flour on it making me want to wipe my hands all the time. My other friend liked the three cheese tomato melt and it looked a lot less messy than the mediterranean chicken. Overall it’s a nice place to relax on a weekend and enjoy good food. I would come back and try the blood orange lemonade I hear so much about and maybe some of their baked goods.
