If you get up to Morro Bay take the short drive to this sushi place it is soooooo worth it. I’m a sushi snob and This was exceptional sushi! Hands down some of the best if not it was as good as I have had. The menu is a little limited but it was so good I will not make that a negative. I will eat here every time I come to the area and so should you.

If you want real sushi in the central coast. Go here. Real sushi I don’t mean California roll or lion king. Means fish on top of rice. Won’t be as good as those real expensive sushi place of course but it’s the best in central coast. Trust me I tried them all. Ramen is great. Pork belly fried rice is what we always get.

This is the first time I post a review after using Unilocal for years. Really incredible place in a small town. Awesome food, fresh thick fish on rolls, fried baby oyster is crispy and delicious. We ordered tonkonsu and miso ramen, really fabulous, and they are generous on the meat size. Service is super awesome, free mochi ice cream after we finished, delicious!

Everybody that works here, that I have encountered, are fantastic. This place has a great energy and atmosphere. You would probably not mind if the food was sub-par because the people and place is so great, but the food is actually insanely good. The spicy edamame, tofu veggie ramen noodles, hippie roll, and avocado roll are all vegan and all are spectacular. They’re real, and they’re spectacular. Highly recommend this place. A new go-to spot for sure.

My husband & I recently moved to Los Osos, & honestly I would’ve never guessed that there would even be a sushi place in this little town. But there is, & it’s amazing! We both ordered ice tea(I had mint & he green tea) & it came in wonderful little teapots. I had the shrimp tempura roll, which was bursting with flavor & delicious fried shrimp. He ordered the red eye, which he insisted was some of the best sushi he’s ever had. Service was attentive, our server was kind, & overall we had a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to go back to Kuma!

So, I’ve lived on the central coast for over 20 years. I started out in Los Osos & have recently returned. Basically, the town was missing a few things. Yes, one was a sushi house. We have a GREAT sushi house now! Fresh, unique rolls, yummy Ramen bowls and POKE. Sometimes I feel Like I’m in Hawaii! There’s a waitress named Joy, lol… and she has made my experience great several a times! Oh ps… Even takeout is delish

Wow!!! I finally mad it into Kuma for some sushi and ramen. Why did I wait so long? Who would have thought that the best sushi in California would be hidden in beautiful Los Osos, CA? I’ll try to be brief. The yellow tail carpaccio was amazing! Each roll we got was better than the last! The ramen was the best I’ve ever had(I live in the Bay Area, so I’ve had my fair share). Kuma also boasts a nice selection of awesome sake. Beyond the food, the service was on point! Everyone we encountered went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and attended to. I didn’t want to leave. I should also mention that the day we decided to visit Kuma was Valentine’s Day, so the staff was slammed and had every excuse to let their customer service slide. I was amazed at how well we were taken care of. If you are looking for a sushi or ramen spot on the Central Coast, don’t hesitate to make the trip to Los Osos.

My first time at Kuma and was not disappointed. It is a hidden little gem in Los Osos. We ordered the Ichy Dragon, Red Eye(could have been a more spicy), Rainbow, Garlic Shrimp and the Morro Bombay. I must say Ichy &Morro were my faves. Hubby got a Ramen and was impressed. Quick service, Price a tad higher than some places but worth it.

I’ve been here a few times already, within a short period of time. It was good, real good. So I went back. It was still good! I’m going this week, and taking someone who hasn’t been. This is worth checking out. Service can be spot on or oddly absent. I agree with some comments that something you feel you need to flag someone down to get served. Though, other days I’ve been waiting on just fine. Weird. I have had a few rolls, and each was good. I didn’t have one that changed my world. Though I did get the Morro Bombay roll, which was actually served on fire, as the menu says. Not sure why, but it was cool. Er… hot. I thought the presentation was nice and the prices are $ 8 – 15 for a roll. Pretty decent in my book. It’s odd because the name of the place is Kuma Sushi, but their website address is Kuma Bowls. I feel like they are a resturant divided. Like their names. Is it a sushi place, or a ramen bowl place? For me? It’s ALL about that ramen. The bowls are huge! And only $ 10. So many options, the spicy miso broth is great. Add a shoyu egg, some garlic butter, and DANG! The steak is actually grilled on the spot and so good. The pork belly in thin and moist. It’s all so good. And so filling. I went for the sushi, and came back for the ramen, three times.

Great food and service. We sat outside was warm and inviting. Our waiter was friendly. My 8 yr was given a chef hat which he wore the whole time. His chicken was tender and very flavorful. The miso soup was outstanding. We shared salty edamame. I also ordered the salmon skin roll one of the best I’ve ever had. We will definitely be eating here again it is one of our new favorite places. Can’t wait to try the ramen bowls.

My boyfriend and I ate at Kuma on Sunday and we absolutely loved it. I had the chicken teriyaki bowl and he had the pork belly fried rice and we had no problem cleaning our plates. The portions are big and the food is so full of flavor. Definitely reasonably priced for the amount of food we received. The staff was excellent, always checking in on us and making sure we were enjoying our experience. We will definitely be back!

Fantastic sushi! We got the morro Bombay roll and it was delish and came on fire! Also got a tonkatsu(pork) ramen with pork belly, egg and nori. I actually didn’t really like this ramen. The broth is really thick and gelatinous and the ramen was mooshy and overcooked. I let our server know and she was so so kind and understanding! After hearing what flavor a I liked she suggested the veggie ramen with rice noodles and she replaced my ramen at no charge!!! How kind and considerate!!! The veggie ramen was much more to my taste(like a miso soup) and her kindness was what will bring me back again(and the sushi!)

My boyfriend and I heard this place had good ramen so we decided to see for ourselves. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived. We decided to eat at the sushi bar and we received a free half California roll half spicy tuna roll for free since a customer earlier«forgot it.» We were very grateful as we are poor college students. My boyfriend ordered tonkatsu ramen with pork belly and kimchi. I ordered poke, shishito peppers, and green tea. Finally, we ended the day with some mochi icecream. Tonkatsu Ramen with pork belly: the ramen noodles themselves are fairly good. The broth coagulates and tastes very fatty and oily. The pork belly is cut pretty thin and reminds me more of bacon than typical pork served in ramen. Kimchi: typical– served on the side Poke: HUGE serving of tuna! Also served with habanero mango salsa and seaweed salad. Mmmmm. Delicious. Shishito Peppers: robata grilled to a crisp and served with lime and salt. Very very good. Green tea: served in a cast iron tea pot with a sake glass. Had to refill many times but kept it hot! The tea leaves themselves are not very strong but still good. Cali/sp. tuna roll: standard. Spicy tuna had spicy mayo and green onion on top. Mochi ice cream: strawberry, mango, green tea, and red bean mochi ice cream cut in half with raspberry and chocolate sauce drizzled over the top along with whipped cream. The syrup personally threw me off from the flavor of the mochi but it was still good! Sushi chef was very nice and the atmosphere has a hawaiian vibe. Overall, had a positive experience!

Delicious! We had the ramen– a veggie and the spicy miso. Both were outstanding. The chefs are personable and the vibe is cabiny and laid back. Great music playing– 60s and 70s mellow surf and psychedelic. We will make this a part of our trip up the coast now.

The restaurant is small and cozy with authentic Japanese touches – except the waitresses. Our waitress forgot our drinks and multiple parts of different dishes. The pork belly fried rice is BOMB. The tonkatsu ramen with pork is good, even better with the added egg, garlic butter, and nori($ 1.00 each). We also got the sashimi combo, which was delicious. Dessert was gross. The sesame mochi was unappetizing and the stuffed crêpe(green tea ice cream inside and tempura outside) was off-putting. I’ve had green tea ice cream many times before and the one here had a strange neon color and an icy, bland flavor. It didn’t help that both desserts were coated in artificial strawberry and chocolate sauce. Overall: tasty entrees, nice atmosphere, bad service, and unappetizing dessert.

Casually strolled into Kuma with my roommate for a quick sushi fix on a Saturday night; little did we know that we’d be in for one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had! The ambiance of the restaurant was authentic, with friendly conversations and cheers over sake shots filling the air. Patio seating was available as well. We chose to sit at the sushi bar and had the pleasure of meeting Chef Nogi. Looking over the counter, we saw Chef Nogi preparing an impressive looking dish: ahi tuna poke topped with fresh uni slices, served with mango jalapeño salsa and two kinds of seaweed salad. This happened to be a special request from Kuma’s owner, Brian! Brian let us try some of the dish, and we ended up each ordering one for ourselves. It was DIVINE. The generous portion of poke and uni that both tasted very fresh, and eaten with jalapeño mango bits, made for an incredible dish that we won’t soon forget. We also ordered the yellowtail and escolar traditional rolls, both were topped with large chunks of fresh fish. Chef Nogi decided to throw in a third for us, a salmon traditional roll with spicy mayo. What a guy! Brian was an extremely kind host and let us sample a few things, which included: 1. Pork tonkatsu ramen — a sample bowl, the broth was perfectly rich and creamy, with a few pieces of fish cake and delicious pork belly 2. Wagyu beef gyoza — not a menu item yet, easily one of the best dumplings I’ve ever had 3. Kubota manju sake — this was a recommendation of Brian’s that was also given a thumbs up from Chef Nogi. Super smooth! All in all, the experience was unreal, and left my roommate and I in a state of disbelief at how stellar it all was. Total came out to be about $ 45, but it was well worth it for the good food, the friendly service, and the prime location(not many options for authentic sushi in SLO county). We will definitely be back!

I had a wonderful first experience at Kuma. We sat at the bar so we could watch Nogi work. He’s so fun to watch. The staff was so friendly. The food was amazing! I ordered the jalapeño poppers for an appetizer, they were tempura fried soooo good! My boyfriend and i shared the itchy dragon roll, Raman bowl, kuma cake, and green tea wrapped in a crêpe. Everything was fantastic, definitely going back! We’ll be the loud group at the bar!
