Mid-week, mid-day farmer’s market downtown. Conveniently close to my office. I haven’t much perused the goods. But there are always a few food trucks, so I know where to find a good lunch close to the office. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

There are some farmer’s markets that I’ve found just by driving by and popping in and grabbing a few things that looked ripe and delicious. As much as I enjoy spontaneous grocery shopping, I will never lose my affinity for planning. I’m happy to say that Gray Street Farmers Market is an enabler for my planning side. Their website is a great resource for which vendors they have and on top of that their weekly newsletter that arrives in my inbox a day before the market allows me to make sure I know exactly what will be available there. Love it! I always like to pick up my eggs from Kassidy’s Kackle House and some meat from Dreamcatcher Farm. Dreamcatcher’s bacon is a great deal: $ 6 for a pound. I also always grab a $ 6 grass-fed meat burger(guess prices were raised from last year) for lunch which is really tasty. Fruits and vegetables are too and they’re fairly priced. The last time I went I was specifically looking for overly ripe peaches as a topping for a tea cake I was making and serendipitously one vendor had just the overly ripe peaches I needed. The only slight inconvenience for me is metered parking and carrying enough change. It’s another opportunity for planning, but not the fun kind.

Great to have a weekday farmers market downtown next to the Hospital Quarter! They are there on Thursday starting about 10:30am. DreamCatcher Farm was there last week making mouthwatering burgers and bluberry(how they spelled it) lemonaid that my girlfriend said was great. I bought produce to take home. Just REALLYWISHTHEYHADHERLOOMTOMATOES available! I also had a chicken salad sandwich from the Kackle House(get it? hahahaha!) that had pecan and red grapes on Yummy whole grain bread. It was really good! My girlfriends and I plan on hitting it again for lunch this week. Oh and if you forgot your cash you can purchase tokens from the lady at the end under the tent and those can be used at the stands. They also take the«food stamps» card. Fun Fresh Food!

Thursdays in the summer are a blessing if you’re in the hospital area. This market is awesome. Not only do you have several farm vendors to get your produce, eggs, meat, cheese, honey, etc., but they offer several excellent options for prepared lunches. Dreamcatcher Farm has a great burger($ 5) and quiche and I’m enamored with their tomato pie, which only seems to show up some of the time. Kassidy’s Kackle House offers $ 4 sandwiches with freshly(and locally) made chicken salad or egg salad(among others). This week a Texas-style tamale stand showed up. And Cake Flour is always there with their breads and sweets. Plus, you can get your soaps and flowers and baked goods, canned goods, if that’s your thing. I think the market has acquired enough of a following that the number of vendors is only going to improve. It’s great to have access to fresh, locally grown food in the downtown area. And to have another good & affordable lunch option. Runs mid-May through October.
