This is my new favorite place. Excellent bartenders. Quality drinks and food. It’s quaint, inviting and an overall an quality experience. I did rate this lower because I visited the day before their closing. I feel they closed poorly. They were out of every item I wanted to say goodbye to. Not the greatest end to a restaurant.

A meal to remember… Started with wild mushroom risotto that was served in the cutest little stone crock topped with arugula. The wine list was great, enjoyed the Malbec. Great atmosphere. Would have given it 5 stars except the hostess was a chatterbox!

I was looking for an intimate atmosphere for a good glass of wine. I found exactly that! We had some superb wines by the glass. The staff was exceedingly friendly and accommodating. Our water glasses were never less than half full and the appetizers we had were great. would go back in a heart beat. A great place to have a memorable meal if you aren’t a penny pincher.

I had my rehearsal dinner here for my wedding and cannot say enough praise for this restaurant. The food is fabulous and the chef even made an off the menu desert request for me. I love La Coop!

Good food and ambiance. Service was impeccable I felt it was a little too cramped for my comfort. The entire time we were there, our servers had a difficult time getting to us to serve us. And the guy behind me kept backing into my chair. For this price, we should have been more comfortable physically. I just wanted OUT of there. there is outdoor seating available if the weather allows. It was too blazing hot and humid for us to sit outside though.

La Coop is French cuisine without the stuffiness. This restaurant has a sommelier and extensive wine list and items on the menu like coq au vin and cassoulet, but it also has nights of the week dedicated to chicken and waffles and a special burger. You’ll often see couples dressed up and clearly on a date sitting next to a group of friends in shorts and flip flops. It really is the best of high-end and casual, straddling the divide much like how the NuLu neighborhood is a good mix of downtown and the Highlands. It’s a bit of perfection. On my most recent visit, I was blessed to be there during their special burger night. The burger was a duck burger with pork belly, arugula, goat cheese and a balsamic glaze. Plus it came with frites on the side. It was so much food, but so worth it. The duck complemented the pork belly — nothing like a burger with two proteins in it – and anything with goat cheese is pretty fab. My one complaint was the bun. It really didn’t bring anything to the hamburger party. Other places, like Mussel and Burger Bar and Grind Burger Kitchen, do buns much better. But still, this burger will live in my top 5 perhaps forever. I also got the pecan salad which has — wait for it – a scoop of bleu cheese ice cream on top. How is this not everywhere?!? And there’s something comical about putting ice cream on top of something that’s meant to be healthy. The bleu cheese wasn’t overwhelming, and the chillness of the ice cream made the farm greens and pear in the salad taste crisper, if you can believe it. The praline bits of crunch were also a nice surprise on top of an already surprising salad. I tried bites of the crêpe of the day — in this case blueberry — and the banana foster bread pudding too. I was so full by the time my friends ordered these that it was hard to fully appreciate them, but still … happy place. The fact that there are several sidewalk tables, giving you a view of East Market Street, only works to heighten this urbane experience. I’m sad that it’s been so long since I was last at La Coop, but I doubt it will be long before I go back.

We have been here twice now in our short time in Louisville and we enjoyed both very much. The place is very easy-going and the first time we expected good food — not this good. Not a very long wine list but very interesting choices and all very reasonably priced. Dishes to try: short rib(«amazing»), escargot(«melts in your mouth») and enything they have on special. What the heck, try all!

Particularly fond of the pork belly, steak frites, and chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles was fantastic. The banana bread pudding is so delectable. Highly recommend. Fantastic cocktails too.

La Coop is one of the many great restaurants in Nulu! It’s not large but the vibe is nice and the outdoor seating area is great because you can keep in touch with everything going on outside. Nulu is great for shopping, browsing art galleries, listening to music and enjoying food and drinks with friends. The first time I went to La Coop I got the special which was good(I can’t remember what it was!) and the second time I got mussels which were great! I also got the crêpe special for desert which had avocado and chocolate inside and black pepper ice-cream on top. I know what your thinking! I was feeling adventurous and it paid off! The crêpe was tasty and all the flavors worked together. I tried escargot for the first time here and it is actually good! Next time you are craving French cuisine give La Coop a try.

Had the prix fixe Derby menu and each course just got better than the last. Service was great even with the craziness of the Derby patrons. The«clam chowder» and scallops were prepared to perfection and just phenomenal. Plus they do this all in a tiny kitchen! In the lovely NuLu neighborhood, I will definitely be back when visiting Louisville.

Enjoyed dinner on a Tuesday night. We started with Country Ham Beignets, which were light and well-complimented with a garlic aioli but I couldn’t find the ham flavor in the savory dough. Also enjoyed the lobster mac-and-cheese, which was amazing. Rich, but not heavy and had big pieces of lobster. Main courses included the Spare Rib Burger and the Steak, both served with duck fat fries. The fries were thin and crispy perfection. The burger was delicious as well, topped with melted pimento cheese, brussel sprout slaw and crispy onion straws. The steak was well-cooked, but wasn’t remarkable. Dessert was the apple pie with sea salt caramel ice cream. It was deconstructed– a flaky pastry surrounded by razor-sliced apples and candied pecans. The ice cream was phenomenal… next time, I’m going to ask for the ice cream in a separate dish so I can enjoy it on it’s own. My husband has the boucheron cheese, served with toast, candied nuts and honey. He said it and the lobster mac-n-cheese were the highlights of his meal. The only downfalls are no bread service. I expect a crispy, warm baguette from a French restaurant and was disappointed without. We did request bread and was brought several slices. Also, as others have mentioned, the store is very small. When we arrived we were the only diners. The next table came in and was seated directly next to us. It felt very obtrusive and very communal, even though we were trying to have a romantic dinner. Service was very good, professional and prompt.

I love this place. I’ve never had a meal that was bad, or a wine recommended to me I didn’t like. The cassoulet is spectacular, and reasonably priced. The short rib is extremely tasty. The specialty burgers on Thursday are usually both interesting and delicious. In the mood for dessert? The bananas Foster bread pudding will knock your socks(or whatever you’re wearing) off. Honestly, I’ve only had a two experiences since they’ve been open where I was less than satisfied — both where I felt the dish was overpriced — but those have been the exception to the rule. The atmosphere is cozy and well decorated, and makes for a great date night locale. Short version: great French style food at a decent price. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Currently this is my favorite restaurant in Louisville. Everything is great about La Coop! The atmosphere is romantic yet fun and energetic, the décor is elegant yet trendy and the food is delicious. If you close your eyes for a minute you can envision yourself dining in a bustling café in Paris. Bobby Benjamin is an excellent chef and he truly does care about his customers and their total experience La Coop. The blue cheese ice cream salad, which is one of Benjamin’s signature salads, is one of the best salads I have ever had. It sounds kinda strange but trust me, it’s delicious. The steak frites are delicious but if you are watching your waistline, try the mussels! All in all, I love this restaurant and definitely plan to head back sooner rather than later! Bön Appetit!

After going there again for my birthday, I have to say, I loved it even more. The service is spot on and the wine prices are very reasonable. Food to die for. Can’t wait to go again and again.

The best thing about La Coop is… well everything. When you walk in you dont feel like you’re in Louisville, KY anymore. The detail is amazing from the bird caged lights to the check holders. Pros — food is great! I reccomend the Lavendar Room cocktail and the Coquilles St. Jacques. My boyfriend always gets the Steak Frites which is great too if you’re not watching your waistline. Oh and the escargo is to die for! Something we tried last time with our friends is the Trois Fromages. We would have never tried it due to us not being very adventurous but it was worth it and so good. Cons– gets loud and crowded inside during the busy hours. You get so full from the apps and the meals you have no room for the deserts!

I can’t give this place fewer than five stars because the food is great. My escargots were on par with those I had in Burgundy, France. Ditto for the mussels. We both enjoyed Coquilles St Jacques… perfect. I wish I could have had dessert, I could barely breathe after dipping bread in all those amazing sauces. Yes, it’s very cramped and can be quite loud, especially when diners are imbibing. There are only a couple tables for two and their location is not good. I think next time we will eat at the bar.

La Coop is an asset to the NuLu restaurant scene. Tucked behind an unassuming façade on East Market, La Coop just beckons for you to come inside with its glowing wall sconces and rustic green barstools. It was especially welcoming on the cold night when I visited recently and needed to warm up from the outside. Service is impeccable here, with the staff making great recommendations on what to order based on what I like. The restaurant discreetly pays attention to detail both when waiting on guests and in small details. As we ate our old dishes were unobtrusively cleared as we finished each one, and at the end of the meal our check was brought out on a small silver plate with a tiny silver birdcage placed on top of the receipt to anchor it — quelle surprise! A few of the highlights of the meal we ordered were the escargot, the lobster risotto, the coq au vin, and the salad with bleu cheese ice cream on top. That’s right, ice cream! If you like bleu cheese, you need to try this salad because the concept of bleu cheese in ice cream form is mind-blowing! Our bread pudding was topped with bourbon ice cream, which I’d love to have a pint of in my freezer at all times — it was amazing! While I just mentioned the highlights, I think I could visit until I have tried everything and decide there is not a bad thing on the menu. I can’t imagine a better place to warm up over a drink with friends and enjoy an amazing iteration of French cuisine in Louisville. La Coop is a must-visit place for foodie and francophile alike — you won’t be disappointed!

Very cozy dining area. If you were a patron of Social then you’re familiar with the small space. We had the lobster bisque and fried green tomatoes as appetizers. Neither were remarkable, but both were tasty enough. The lobster bisque was too tomato based. I really enjoyed the entrees. Great French country comfort food. It left me feeling so warm, happy and satiated. The desserts were hit and miss. The cheese I selected was phenomenal. However, the chocolat du jour seemed like something thawed from Kroger’s dessert isle. The wine selection was good. I wish they offered more than one option by the glass for each region. I will definitely be back for their entrees and wine.
