First time I came here I was pretty disappointed in the taste of the bbq. Decided to try it again and it’s much better. Service is really good and the atmosphere is very casual. Manager came by to check on my food and service. Nice touch not typically seen in this type restaurant. Probably just a bad day when I first came in.

Wife and I were traveling thru and looking for something other than burgers. We shared the number one combo for take out. Brisket was moist and tender. One piece had a little too much fat. Ribs were cooked well and tasty but a little skimpy on meat. Had me craving more. Wings were delicious and spiced right. Sides of Mac and cheese, red potato salad and green beans were all good. Toast was soft and soggy by the time I got the food back to the hotel. We will go back.

Really good BBQ and a great value! Good for families and kids. They have free desserts on Monday or kids eat free on Tuesday. I would definitely go again!

Service was horrible. Ordered 3 brisket sandwich. One had an extraordinary amount of fat cap. We expect some fat, but a sandwich full of fat is not acceptable. Won’t be back. Tip: try City BBQ for brisket

It remains some of the very best BBQ in town. We decided to get carry out to supply a party we were having. We got the pulled pork and chicken along with all the fixings. It was a smash success at the party. It’s so easy to order. Just tell them how many people you are having and they will give you everything you need

Friendly staff, delicious food we had fried pickles, corn bread, red potato salad, #1 combo buttermilk pie and hot fudge sundae which came in a mug. Very nice place will definitely come back when we are in KY again

I chose this restaurant because of the good reviews. The food was good, my serve was good but the other staff were horrible. I ordered brisket with mac and cheese and fries. I also ordered fried pickles and ended with the buttermilk pie ice cream dessert. The fried pickles were not the best(thin and a little bitter). The brisket was good as was the mac and cheese and fries. The dessert was excellent. So…the staff. My waitress was nice and very attentive. I sat close to the hostess station and was dumbfounded. There was a group of about 4 girls gossiping. One was talking about«baby mama’s» and«baby daddy’s». She was also talking about how much she hated a family member because«he’s a cop and a total dick». WHAT?! Who says that in front of customers? The guy she was serving was sitting right next to her! To top it all off, the same lady tells the group, «You have to go check out table 42.» She proceeded to go on about how the woman at the table looked like Mama June from Honey Boo Boo… I haven’t watched the show but am familiar with who they were referring to. I was completely disgusted and disappointed. She(as well as the others laughing) were so rude and unprofessional. Their behavior ruined the experience for me.

I’ve had some of the best BBQ in the world down in Austin. This ain’t quite that, but it’s close. For me, the ribs were a standout and the honeywings were great. The pork and brisket were very good. And because it was my first time they give me a piece of buttermilk pie which was incredible. I’d never had that before.

I cannot believe this place has such a good rating. I’m not even from an area where BBQ is our claim to fame(Michigan…) and I know this was awful. I ordered an order of ribs, which came out completely cold. I mean, not even lukewarm — cold… cold to the taste, cold to the touch. I waived over our waitress and she said she’d bring out new ones. At this point, my family had started to eat their meals. By the time she brought out the new ribs — I mean, I’m only ordering four individual ribs, not an entire slab — both of them were almost completely done with their meals. The ribs barely had any meat on them and the meat that was on them most definitely didn’t fall off easily. My boyfriend, who is pretty well versed in all things BBQ and usually says«it was alright» when I ask him how a meal was, said it was«horrible.» We got free dessert because it was Monday which was equally underwhelming. No manager came to the table to check on or apologize for the whole rib situation, even though I saw three standing around the register chatting it up with someone that seemed to work there but was off the clock and saw our waitress go right from our table to speak to them. Parking was awful and awkward — the entire lot is up on a hill and there weren’t nearly enough spaces or room for two cars to safely maneuver around each other while one is trying to go up the hill and one is trying to go down.

My first visit to Mark’s and I was impressed with the service and the food. I ordered the BBQ ribs(10 bone) with the baked beans and spicy fries. The ribs were some of the best that I have had, I choose the hot barbecue sauce and for me it was the right amount of hot. The sides were very good and the food came out quickly and was served hot. The manager came over to make sure everything was to my liking. When he found out that it was my first visit to the original Mark’s he had the bartender, who was fantastic inform me that I get a free dessert and bottle of barbecue sauce. Great customer service and they make you feel welcomed! I took 6 of my ten ribs home because the portions are large. Great job!

Consistency makes this place good. That’s hard to do with bbq & it not taste like it came out of a package, warmed up in a microwave. Service is always good, polite & show urgency in getting customers taken care of. Everyone picks up & helps clean. One time I strayed & ordered a salmon burger. It wasn’t good. At all. Stick with the bbq, never to be disappointed. My favs, potato salad(which we order in summer for all Special occasions) any bbq’d meat/poultry. My son loves the honey wings too

This place has awesome, but what truly makes it stand out is the AMAZINGLY service. From the moment we walked in to the time we finished, we truly felt welcome. Our server Mary was fantastic. We eat out all the time and seldom do we have someone so diligent and attentive. Definitely try the Buttermilk Pie. It is very sweet, so maybe try a slice and split it. Skip all the crappy chain places and enjoy a meal here when you’re in town!

My new favorite for BBQ in Louisville! I stopped in for lunch for my first ever visit to Mark’s and I can definitely say that it won’t be my last. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with red potato salad, green beans and a small side of coleslaw to go on top of my sandwich. Everything was very good! I had my sandwich come out with Mark’s original bbq sauce on it. I took a bite and it was good. I then added some of Mark’s red bbq sauce to it and made it even better. Then after sampling the coleslaw and giving it a thumbs up, I added it to my sandwich as well. This put my sandwich into the very delicious category! My sides were very good too. Especially the red potato salad. Possibly the best I’ve had! My service experience here was awesome! Smiles from everyone and talk about fast service! I literally got my food within five minutes of ordering it! I definitely recommend trying Mark’s. I’m making it one of my regular stops when in Louisville

Come hungry, wear loose pants, and save room for dessert! This is a great BBQ joint. Mark’s kept me from starving when I was an intern in Louisville in 2005. They have free dessert(with meal purchase) on Mondays, which just can’t be beat. I legitimately visited this restaurant every week for a year during my internship. While I’ve never been unhappy with anything I’ve eaten there(and I’ve tried most of it), I had the pulled pork sandwich with green beans at my most recent visit. I’m pretty sure I died and went to pulled pork heaven. The sandwich with one side is plenty of food(and I didn’t eat much of the bun, as I was saving myself for my true love: dessert). The table sauces are really good, and there are several options(I like the sweet). The green beans are flavorful, made with pork(not gross), and not overly oily. Honestly– so good. Dessert needs its own paragraph. If you didn’t save room for dessert, TOOBAD. SUCKITUP, CUPCAKE! Don’t waste your time with the menu. Get the Buttercrunch Sundae. I’m pretty sure they put crack in it. I’ve had the pie by itself, and didn’t care for it… it’s legitimately TOOSWEET without the ice cream, caramel, and peanuts to cut it. As a sundae… it’s seriously the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. It was everything I remember from 2005 and more. Thank you, Mark’s, for making sure I will never be able to give up carbs. On this occasion, I arrived late in the lunch hour(1p) on a Friday. I was seated and greeted immediately. I had tea in 5 minutes, food in 10, and I was done in 30 minutes. My server was efficient, friendly, and couldn’t have been better. The prices are reasonable($ 19 including a good tip for tea, sandwich, side, and dessert), the restaurant looks every bit as good(country theme) as it did 10 years ago, and(in case you can’t tell), and I will be returning EVERY time I go through Louisville. I might be in love.

Our work crew makes frequent visits to Mark’s for lunch, as they have proven to be a consistent and expeditious choice for our 1-hour break. This visit, however, stood out from the others — and not in a good way. Our server approached our table and simply said hello — he didn’t ever tell us his name. It was all downhill from there. He stood there awkwardly, until I finally asked for a tea. The others followed suit, and we also then placed our orders. He dropped our drinks off and quickly moved on to a nearby table without saying a word. We noticed he ignored our original requests for no lemon, extra ice, etc. Not a huge deal. Our food came after what seemed like longer than usual, and was brought to us by someone other than our server. She also got us refills. I expected our server to stop by and ask if everything came out okay, but he never did! In fact, we tried for over 10 minutes to flag him down just to get a cup of ice. He was moving so quickly through the dining room it was impossible to catch his attention. When he finally did come to the table to pick up an empty glass, he didn’t even look at us and just kept moving until we called out to him. And then it took over 5 minutes to get the ice! After we were done eating, we waited for our server to come by with checks. We also needed to order our desserts(part of the 502 Lunch Week menu), and needed them to go since our usual 30 – 40 minute lunch past the 1 hour mark at this point. We have to flag him down(yet again). We ask for our desserts, to-go drinks, and checks. He comes back with checks and desserts. We ask again for drinks to go. He zips his way back with them(wrong like our original drinks, too). He barely spoke to us the entire time — not even a «thank you» or «good-bye» as we were leaving. And for someone who moves so fast, he was incredibly slow with actually getting anything done. The only good parts of our lunch were the parts he had nothing to do with — the taste of the food and the friendliness of all other staff we interacted with. Now this won’t prevent me from returning, but it had sullied my longstanding impression of Mark’s. Though if this were my first visit, this review would have two stars and I would not be back.

Ummm, clearly even I have a limit when it comes to fried food. My friend ordered the #1 sampler and I ordered chicken fingers. The chicken was inedible it was so tough from being over fried, I got their«famous» sweet fried corn and it was basically corn that had great potential to be delicious, but lost all the deliciousness when fried and just turned mushy. My friend said the brisket and honey wings were good, she said the ribs were terribly dry and the pulled pork was super dry. Do not mistake this though… I WOULD come here again JUST for the ridiculously amazing fried pickles… Best I’ve ever had!

I’ve been a Mark’s customer since they opened their Middletown spot in 1988 and keep coming back on a regular basis. Did I mention that I’ve not eaten meat or chicken for 24 of those years?!? My favorite, menu item by far is the salmon burger. The juicy and flavorful patty is grilled imparting it with a phenomenal char. Served dressed on a whole wheat bun, you can chose the side of your choice if the sweet potato fries that come with it aren’t for you. Being a sauce addict, I always ask for the bbq ranch dressing for my burger(I’m not partial to the condiment that comes with the dish) and I love the delicious, sweet potato fries dipped in Mark’s honeywing sauce! Family members adore the brisket and chicken sandwiches as well as the ribs and honeywings(which I also loved back in the day). The veggie plate(chose 3) can be an indulgent treat especially if you chose items like the potato salad(better than my mom’s), fried corn on the cob, onion rings, or baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter. Dessert is free on Mondays after 4 pm with the purchase of an entrée. Make sure you try the buttermilk crunch sundae with pie chunks, the Oreo banana pudding, or the caramel apple sundae!

I was only in Louisville for one night, and hoping to hit a home run for dinner, but it was more like a sacrifice fly. I have driven by Mark’s previously and it looks like a great BBQ place should look… a little divey(in a good way). The restaurant and bar inside are nice and the place was packed on a weeknight. I was hungry and couldn’t decide what to get, so I went with one of the combos that was a little bit of everything: honeywings, ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. The portion was exactly what I needed. It was a good amount of food, but not overkill and the price was right on at $ 15. While it sounds like a lot of food, the individual portions of each item were pretty small(3 wings, 3 ribs, 3 – 4 slices of brisket, etc). On to the food… I was disappointed. Overall, the food wasn’t served hot or even all that warm. With the combo having a variety of meats, I kept hoping the next item that I ate would be better than the previous, but no luck. All very mediocre. The brisket and pork were dry, and I was really hoping for some great smoky flavor from the pork, and I just didn’t get it. I had to use some of their dry rub that was on the table in a shaker along with some sauce to add some flavor to it. The honeywings were the biggest disappointment. They tasted like wings that you would get on a Chinese buffet and the breading was very soggy. With this being a BBQ joint, I was hoping that they would be smoked or grilled with a kick, but no luck. The bright(er) spot in the meal was the ribs. While, they didn’t fall off the bone, they were very tender. I would order them again. The service was great. Very friendly and attentive, but unfortunately the BBQ left something to be desired.
