The philosophers pie is one of the many great selections! The server asks you name and remembers! Great pizza.

Took waiter an hour to take our food order. One hour after that, asking for food status, waiter reveals that«the kitchen lost the order» and took our order again. We suspect he didn’t take it down or place it in the first place. No offer to make things right. Poor service on drinks. Just slow and bad all around. I used to love this place, what happened? EDIT: This review was originally written as we sat in the restaurant, right after we found out that the order was lost. The food did eventually come and was delicious — no issues with the quality of food itself. The manager came by and took half off of our meal and gave us $ 50 in Mellow Bucks to entice us back. There was some confusion about splitting the bill, so we just took a single bill and settled up between ourselves. Total time in restaurant was 3 hours, 15 minutes. I am grateful for the attempts to make it up to us, but there’s no way that I’d like to repeat this experience.

The last two times my boyfriend and I have been in, the place has been swamped. Both Megan and Marshall did a great job at letting us know up front that things might take a little longer, which is not an issue for us. They took a situation that is out of their control and turned it into a customer service win. Love the gluten free options and the the food is usually pretty good if you don’t mind the wait. I do feel like they could probably benefit from keeping a couple more on staff since the servers always seem to be running around like crazy.

Unilocal is dumb. I virtually trust none of you and don’t care about public opinion because taste and general aesthetic is subjective. But I can’t not give this bartender a poor review, because I want to slap her but I’m told that is frowned upon. It’s Sunday, December 20th, 20159pm. I placed an order with said bartender over the phone. Went to go pick it up with my father-in-law. We walk up and right away the bartender made zero attempt at a greeting but we took the initiative and said hello and that we were there to pick up. Let me preface this next part by saying that I know quite well what it means to have a shitty day at work or in life or anything at all but this was not that. She asked my name facing the POS and then dropped the check on the bar and walked away to chat with her boyfriend(I assume) at the corner without asking if we wanted anything like, oh I don’t know, a drink?! When she returns for the check, she picks it up without a word(its 40.36 [I tip her 6 $]) drops the change which I tell her is all for her. Again, no words, no thanks, no eye contact even; takes the tip off the bar tosses it in her tip bucket and walks away. When our food is ready she drops the boxes off and yet again, walks away without a word. I ask my FIL if we have pepper and parmesan at the house because the bartender doesn’t seem to have a single clue what customer service is or general human decency at that. Blah. We leave; a block later we realize the order is wrong. We’re baaaack. Initially she denies the order is wrong. When she realizes: no apology, not even an «oh shit, I messed up». She takes half of our wrong order and flops it on the bar to another patron(he looks horrified), without an apology to him for her error. She returns with our correct order with a rhetorical, «Oh that makes sense now.» Nothing. She doesn’t say a single word to us. So we leave. That’s it, I guess. Merry Christmas! I’ve been bartending for 7 years in San Diego and NYC, and love what I do mercifully. Its such a bummer that she thinks its cool to act like that or if that is her general disposition. Its a total bummer that she was so rude that I really felt I had to write this. Truly, It all kind of sucks, pizza included.

Oh em gee. Amazing. Have the pretzels and don’t forget the beer cheese! Obsessed! We had the bbq chicken pizza and I was not disappointed. It hit all the right notes. The cheese tasted like they made it that day and the waitress was sweet as pie.

We went here for Wednesday night trivia. It was busy for both the trivia and for a baseball game and our waiter was very busy with a lot of tables and it took a while to even get our order taken. The food was delicious though. They had many options for pizzas but I built my own. It was greasy pizza goodness.

I’ve written a review of Mellow Highlands before, and of course my opinion of this location will be similar, because it’s the same food. But, the atmosphere of this location, as with all Mellow Mushroom locations, is definitely different than Mellow Highlands. This location is no different from any other Mellow Mushroom I’ve visited, in that it’s funky and colorful. I always love the décor of Mellow Mushroom. It just seems so fun and happy. And I love the food at Mellow Mushroom. My favorite thing on the menu is the pretzels and beer cheese. I also love the Buffalo chicken pizza. And, they have a great draught beer menu that’s always changing. They also have happy hour specials daily, for example $ 2.50 glasses of wine *all day* on Thursdays. Any time someone wants to plan a happy hour on Thursday I always suggest Mellow Mushroom. You can’t beat full glasses of wine(they don’t skimp because it’s happy hour) for $ 2.50. And the happy hour doesn’t end, so you don’t have to rush from work and order three glasses when you’re seated in order to catch a two hour happy hour special. Plus, you can order those tasty pretzels and beer cheese while you’re drinking your wine. It’s a win-win! I highly recommend Mellow Mushroom for dinner or happy hour the next time you’re looking for a casual spot!

My husband doesn’t agree with me, but this is one of my favorite pizza spots in town(spinelli’s is up there along with Coals). I love the St Matthews location in the summer, when the windows are wide open and the breeze is nice. Get bacon and feta on a pie, and it’s even better. I also really like their Greek salad.

Mellow Mushroom has become our go to group spot. Maybe its the space, the tvs, or the ability to accommodate, but it is definitely the spot. On this particular weekend, we had tried to call the Mellow Mushroom in the Highlands to see if we could get a reservation or call head for a table since our group activity was closer to this location. The Highlands Mellow Mushroom basically told us they had no space for our group so we ended up in St. Matthews instead. With that in mind, we were already grateful to have our group accommodated at our old faithful Mellow Mushroom. Our orders were taken in a timely manner, our drinks arrived at the table, our food was hot and delicious, yet it was just some of the service that was lacking. Our waitress was very sweet, though, it seems they were not the most prepared for our group. When our first order of pretzels came out, we realized that none of us had silverware, or plates. Another waiter assisted our waitress, realized we didn’t have plates and brought some. He left them on the other table, rather than passing them out. Oddly, the same thing happened with our silverware. Thankfully two members of our party noticed that this happened on both occasions and passed out the silverware and plates respectively. If this hadn’t happened twice– with the plates and the silverware, I feel like I would give it a pass but this has never happened with our groups before at this Mellow Mushroom, so it was just hard to digest. At least the food was delicious. Fingers crossed we don’t have to pass out own silverware at the next visit.

Fabulous pizza. The crust is super soft. Although I do admit the crust underneath the toppings does get soggy if you don’t eat it right away but still tastes great even then. Furthermore the draft selection is fantastic. They have several beers as well as a couple ciders. Most notably seasonal flavors from Ciderboys, Shelbyville location offers peach while Bardstown offers pineapple. Better yet the prices aren’t ridiculous and some drafts are available as pitchers. Great place to take a group any day of the week. Happy hour is 3−6pm!

My pizza was really good. I got the south of the border with chicken and jalapeños. I love the crust here. We also got pretzels and they were great. Carb overload

I came in on a Thursday afternoon for a couple drinks and a quick bite to eat. I wasn’t feeling beer so I ordered the Hello Mellow Mezcal from their drink menu. What I got was some sort of sour mixture, so I asked for an extra shot of mezcal from the bartender. I was absolutely shocked when she brought me a shot of champagne. This is a drink on their menu, how as a bartender do you not know what mezcal is or how to make a signature drinks? Once I explained to her what mezcal was she brought me back another drink, which still had no mezcal in it. I assume it was just a margarita with bitters. My boyfriend ordered a featured pizza called the Pineapple Express. It was supposed to have ham, pineapples, jalapeños, ect. ect. What he got was a pineapple and cheese pizza. I don’t understand how anyone working there would think that a specialty pizza would feature one item. It was a slower Thursday afternoon, so maybe they didn’t have their A team working, but still it’s baffling to me that their employees don’t know items on their own menu.

Drive by this place all the time but today I had a hankering for a hoagie so decided to finally give this place a try. The entire building is lined with garage doors so on nice days like today they open them all and make the entire place open air. Ordered the turkey and bacon hoagie and was not disappointed. My girlfriend got a pesto based mushroom pizza which I sampled and was also delicious. Service was great and all the employees seem generally happy about working here and providing a great experience. We’ll definitely be coming back to try all the other things on the extensive and unique menu.

The 420 theme should only be taken so far. Sure its’ kinda funny but when your server is orbiting Pluto it takes away from your dining experience. Food was just alright but slow. Drink refills(even water) should be automatic and not something that the server needs to ask you about. The appetizers shouldn’t take as long as the main course to get to your table. Overall: tolerable food but annoying service.

Mellow Mushroom is a solid choice for a pizza chain. While it’s not my favorite pizza in Louisville, it definitely beats a lot of places. The pizza is high quality and tastes great. The crust throughout the base of the pizza is average thickness, then fluffs out to doughy goodness along the edges. Usually, I can take or leave the outer crust of a pizza, but I actually enjoy Mellow Mushroom’s crust. It’s covered in garlic butter and parmesan cheese, and is perfect for dunking in sauce. They use an average amount of sauce on the pizza, which is fine. While I prefer my pizza to be a little sauce-heavy, I’m happy with pizza that’s not bone dry. The toppings are fresh and plentiful. The menu provides a large amount of specialty pizza options, as well as appetizers, salads, calzones, sandwiches, etc. I’ve tried several pizza options, with my favorites being the house special and the buffalo chicken pizza. Everything I’ve had has tasted good. At $ 25 for a large pizza, the prices seem to be high. I expect to pay extra for fresh, unique, handcrafted pizza, but feel Mellow Mushroom’s pizza is more like $ 20. Mellow Mushroom has a good draft beer selection, which makes it a good hang out. The vibe is very laid-back and comfortable. On warm days, the large garage doors are open to the outside. The décor is psychedelic and hippy-like. Overall, the atmosphere makes you want to kick back and hang out with a beer. Speaking of kicking back, I should note that Mellow Mushroom isn’t the best choice if you’re in a hurry or want a quick meal. Yes, the service can be pretty slow. I understand it takes awhile to cook a pizza, but it seems to take longer than average here. If you’re aware of this ahead of time, and don’t mind relaxing with a beer and good conversation while you wait for your food, it’s no big deal. Only once was the wait unacceptable(an hour and half from the time we ordered until our pizza arrived). This was the result of our server forgetting to put in our order. However, the manager remedied the situation by comping our pizza and providing us a coupon for the future. Mellow Mushroom is a solid choice. On one hand, it’s a chain that sells slightly overpriced pizza with slightly slow service. However, it’s a chain that does things right. They use quality, fresh ingredients; their menu is creative; and their pizza tastes good. They have an excellent beer list and a fun atmosphere.

This place has a pretty good draft beer list as well as some yummy food. I always find the servers to be pretty friendly too. I had the house calzone tonight and it was delicious! I was in the mood for something warm and filling and it surpassed that. I have to say that the pizza dough here is unlike any other dough in town. Its slightly sweet and chewy in texter, with a darker, almost golden yellow appearance. It’s a good thing. They have trivia on wednesdays, apparently and had a large crowd come out for that. The service was still attentive even with the extra business. I usually would not give high marks to a chain/non-local restaurant but this one is an exception. Not my favorite pizza joint in town but definitely worth a try if you haven’t been.

Have been here twice in the past month and have to say that it was truly excellent each time. The first time I came with a big group for dinner before our holiday work party. I was a huge fan of the Mellow in Nashville and curious to see how this one matched up. Most people in the group hadn’t been before, but everyone left happy. The waitstaff was very accommodating to our group and also patient when several from our party took a while to get there. We got several different pizzas, and they were all fabulous. I was really excited to get back to my old favorite – the Holy Shiitake. It was just as excellent as I remembered, and I got it again last night. I was also excited to get back to the excellent beer menu here that I loved in grad school. In December, I got the Snake Bite but with a stronger seasonal cider than the Woodchuck, based on the server’s suggestion. It was really excellent. Then yesterday, the server recommended his favorite brew to me: the Left Hand Sawtooth ESB. I was floored by how good it was, as were my friends who tried it. The manager brought out an extra stuffed mushroom to our table, saying that the first one had seemed a bit small, so we all got to sample it. Overall, really excellent customer service, brews, and food on both recent trips. Look forward to coming back.

Meh. That sums up my two experiences at Mellow Mushroom. This last time we ordered a large(I think 20 inch) Kosmic Karma. For 25 dollars I was expecting a little more. The middle of the pizza was quite soggy. Fortunately I learned a good trick from my buddy chef john to crisp up pizza bottoms in a skillet on the stove top. I’m actually going to post a link to the method at the bottom because it’s so good and hopefully not against the rules of this site. Other than the soggy bottom the pizza was ok enough. It’s pizza so really it can’t be that bad. Just lacking in flavour despite a lot of toppings that should have been quite flavourful. As promised never eat soggy bottom pizza again! Works great for pizza right out of the box or leftovers!
