I came here offer despite the high prices, but my recent experiences have lead me to change my review to one star. I’ve gone twice during posted lunch hours planning to go for lunch and spend some time studying only to be told they’re not serving lunch for some reason. Also no fruit for smoothies, oh ok. «No problem I’ll get a coffee when I’m done with mine» (Settling for only coffee and no lunch lol) Two seconds later I get asked to leave because I couldn’t have the coffee I brought with me. Like really? Fuck this place

IFYOUAREREADINGTHIS, IT *MIGHT* BETOOLATE… Gatsby’s is closing mid-May 2016. Word hasn’t spread very far about this news. Comfy cozy coffee shop by day, bar by night. Come here while you can… the chai is perfectly creamy, dreamy, thick, and sweet! I will really miss this place. Love, Daisy

Really sad to see this place go. Gatsby’s Loft provided space for us to do comedy shows and ended up being the best showcase in town. I remember the guy saying«too soon» after every joke and the standing-room-only Saturday’s once a month while Caleb talked about his«poop beard». Shine on you crazy diamond! I hear the coffee was good too.

One of lubbocks greatest hidden atmospheres. 2 story apartment renovated into a coffee house with a great homey artsy atmosphere. It’s my favorite place in the whole city and is such a great hide away

This coffee shop is crazy cool if only because it hides in a little nook, nestled next to a bunch of other local businesses, completely off the beaten path. A little haven. And it only gets better from there. I’ll preface this by stating that I ordered precisely two drinks(cortado and a dirty chai), to-go, and while the concoctions were concocted I wandered the premises and simply imagined myself settling in for a longer session in the upstairs loft. This place simply owns authenticity. The coffee was good, not great, but very good. But the venue, my gosh, it’s worthy of five stars. Forgive me for my Gatsby fantasy, but I can only imagine this business owning legit nightlife, to boot. If the bar upstairs actually delivers, this is the kind of hangout that should transition into craft cocktails in the evening, and the shenanigans that follow. Whoa, I just wrote that word, shenanigans. I hate that word. But I want shenanigans at Gatsby’s. I do. I think this is the place for shenanigans. With a twist of lime.

I love this place. The staff is so friendly and the coffee is delicious. I haven’t had a bad experience there yet. They have a bar up top and I plan on blacking out there and hitting on the cute owner only to regret it later. But who cares. they are so nice they prolly won’t even mention it. Good coffee y’all!

A surprisingly great place to see live music and have a cold beer. I was there for a friend’s show and a few local homebrewers brought their home batch for all you can drink for $ 5. I don’t know if it gets better than that? Oh, and the coffee and atmosphere exceed West Texas expectations.

Cortada is great. The only problem i have is that my opinion of a great barista is one that when asked shares his knowledge of the bean of which he is brewing with and not jus halfheartedly pointing to the chalkboard on which it is scribbled on. But like i said its a great place and my opinions are not worth deducting a star. Or are they? Other than that its a great place. O wait as i sit here pondering the quality of this coffeehouse i see a dirty floor and the trash can in the bathroom is in dire need of being emptied. So jus for that i am going to rate it a four star. They do have great coffee. Ok i take back everything ive i went back for some chemex and got to talking super friendly shared any kinf of information i asked. Great pour over.

The atmosphere is what drew me in. Gatsby’s is an eclectic, two story bungalow that overlooks a pretty, green garden. A nice change of scenery compared to the usual brown and bare landscapes around town. The coffee is great too! Lots of options for those wanting to try coffee from different regions. Of course you could always go for a vanilla latte or mocha. I highly recommend channeling your new-agey side and popping into this place for some good coffee and vibes.

Very good place for studying, quiet atmosphere compared to j&b and bigger more cozy places to sit compared to yellowhouse and sugar browns. Kind of $$ but you also pay for the ambiance. Do not come here with a big study group or if you plan to catch up with a lot of friends. Come here for quiet studying.

What a joke. I guess because the hipsters love this place it will continue to thrive. Walked in and there was no line. Both young men working were standing, not acting busy. I ordered my drink in a to-go cup but the other person I was with ordered hers in a mug. We stood at the counter and told the young man that we were going to share a brownie. After my friend got her coffee I waited an aditional 5min for a Chi tea. After I asked they young man of he forgot about me he then made sure my chi was being made. It was cold and weak. I will not be back for a warm drink… if that wasn’t enough of a turn off I got to listen to the«gentlemen» speak about how much fun they had the night before… well at least what they can remember of it. I’m all fairness it was clean. That’s why it gets 2 stars.

Found this coffee house from Unilocal while I was visiting Lubbock and decided to try it. Not only was the lady working their friendly, she also made an amazing cup of coffee.

Favorite coffee shop in Lubbock; arguably Texas(I don’t travel much). Dog friendly, patio seating and a great atmosphere inside. Baristas are knowledgeable and the menu is easy to read/order from — unlike most corporate coffee chains. They serve alcohol upstairs — and now have a lunch menu?! Can it get better? I submit that it cannot!

What a great and quaint place to grab coffee in Lubbock as well as a great spot to break away from the office and have a cozy environment to get productive with a steady dose of caffeine. You can tell this place is different the moment you walk in. Nestled in the Cactus Alley, it seems something more reminiscent of something you would find tucked into the narrow streets of Boston than next to the Marsha Sharp Freeway in Lubbock. The barista works in what looks more like what one might imagine to be F. Scott Fitzgerald’s actual kitchen than a commercial business kitchen. Either way, it adds to the charm and the baristas deliver stellar and well-presented product. Both times I have gone I have not been able to branch away from the Maple Nut Latte — it is just too hard to resist with its rich, unique, and decadent flavor. I have tried my wife’s almond Italian soda and that was remarkably good as well. The quirky and labyrinth vertical layout of Gatsby’s also adds to the vibe, as one can sit downstairs in what seems like a living room one would expect in a rustic cabin in the woods(including board games!) or one can traverse upstairs, where there is an eclectic assortment of dining room type tables and chairs as well as old couches, armchairs, and chaise lounges. I prefer to head upstairs and drink my Maple Nut while doing a bit of work. Gatsby’s also serves what appears to be a really great lunch menu, and I am intrigued by the speak-easy looking bar upstairs and the musical stage. Perhaps I need to try this place out when those are in operation. I think I will.

Traveling through Lubbock, I was jonesin for a good cup of Joe. I found Gatsby’s on Unilocal and ventured on over. Explaining my desire while hiding my coffee snobbery, I asked for«dark» coffee. This would have been the right time to explain they only have light and medium roast, but oh well, I ventured forth with the French Press. This is the true coffee snobs drink, before the hypocrisy of adulterating with cream and sweetener of course. Trendy places like this can be cool, but they can also be false trendy, furnishing the place with a «we-don’t care» kinda style because they’re commitment to coffee is so high they can’t be bothered with other, less important details. It could use to recommit to the«art of coffee» and move into elite coffee house status. Serve the french press IN an actual french press, not a paper cup. Offer coffee extras such as cream and sweetener, committed to assume the customer need and make his request not necessary. This place gets a 4 star because it’s a charming coffee house and the guys have a lot of heart, beating with a good energy and kind and accommodating staff. WIFI is good and the ambient sound is suitable for intimate conversation while connecting with that lost love or cherished friend on your choice of retro throwback couches to sink into. So go and enjoy the atmosphere, you’re in Lubbock after all and these hip folks will make you forget your unfortunate geographical location over a cup of light or medium roast. Coffee On!

Gatsby’s is an extremely solid coffee shop. It’s usually quiet, and their coffee is always good. Walking in can be a bit intimidating at first if you are not a part of the«coffee enlightened.» Their menu is not the standard fare you’d find at your conventional franchise chain shops. Lots of single origin, lightly roasted coffees brewed cup by cup. Their espresso drinks are excellent as well. If you don’t know about Chemex, Aeropress, V60, or other niche brewing device listed on their menu, or have no idea what single origin coffee is or why you should care, don’t hesitate to ask the barista. They’re friendly and always willing to share their coffee knowledge. The only thing to be aware of is that Gatsby’s isn’t and doesn’t pretend to be your«mobile office.» Wi-fi isn’t lightning speed, and the plugs are scarce. Go to get great coffee and meet a friend. Gatsby’s has a great cocktail and craft beer selection in the upstairs loft on weekend evenings. They’re always pushing the envelope on cool drinks, and usually have beer that’s difficult to find anywhere else.

I am in love with this place!!! It is my first choice when I am looking for a place to go with a study group. First of all, I almost always choose a local coffee shop over Starbucks(and no, I’m not a hipster). I just love the personable nature of them. When you walk into Gatsby’s, you already realize it’s a little different(I had a heck of a time finding it my first time) because it’s in an old apartment building. In the center of the apartment comes, they have an awesome little pond/courtyard area. The personnel are down to earth and courteous. My favorite thing about them(that I hate about Starbucks)? They can actually make decent espresso. I love a cup of espresso. Starbucks always tends to burn it, killing so much of the wonderful flavor that I adore. Even better, I love to get a shot of it in a Dirty Chai. They sport amazing live music and the walls are decorated from beautiful art from local artists. I love the new sunflower pieces they have upstairs above the stage. If you are looking for a little corner place that offers an authentic heart of Lubbock, do yourself a favor and drop into Gatsbys.

Favorite coffee spot in lubbock. Because this local shop is two stories you will never run out of space to sit. They always have local art up and frequently have live music on the weekends. Their wifi is free. I love how homey everything feels here; like all the furniture has a past story. They also are open until midnight on weekends and have a full bar with unique drinks made by their own barkeep Paul!

Every city has their fill of adorable coffee shops, so it came to no surprise when i encountered Gatsby’s, that it would be charming and inviting. But what I didn’t expect were the impressive food menu, sophisticated art collection, and full bar for private events upstairs. The small space is divided among two floors and filled comfortably with big and fragile furniture alike. Almost reminiscent of grandma’s attic — full of quirky and cozy finds. The staff is polite and brings your order to you, which is always a nice perk! Though, the chai latte wasn’t my favorite, the prices are reasonable and the breakfast sandwich is made by hand and one of the best I’ve had in a long time.
