Truly a wonderful little coffee shop. Everything I’ve had, mostly consisting of cortados and pour over from the slow bar, has been exceptional. The employees are friendly and inviting, more than happy to help explain or give suggestions if you’re new or unsure. It can definitely become crowded at times due to college students, which admittedly I am one, but never to a point of annoyance. Anytime I am not in Lubbock I find myself yearning for one of their cortados and their cute and intimate styling, and as such the first place I stop when back.

I absolutely love the atmosphere, music, and baristas here. I go often to study, it’s a lovely hangout place. Their scones are delicious and my favorite drink is their iced vanilla latte(served in a mason jar!). The sugar brown and vanilla lattes are good too. Cappuccino was a little too strong/bitter for me but the little ginger snap cookies or whatever it came with were yummy. There’s a Pay It Forward board which I think is really awesome. The only bummers are that there’s not many spots for parking and they’re closed on Mondays:(Also depending on how busy they are, seating can kinda be limited and there’s not many outlets for plugging your laptop in.

Coming from Seattle, I yearned for a great coffee place that wasn’t Starbucks.(Don’t get me wrong, I don’t share the disdain for Starbucks that most Seattle coffee snobs possess — it fills a need, and fills it well) Sugar Brown’s fills that void and then some. Their beans are tasty. Their brew is pure. Their staff is friendly and knowledgable. They go the extra mile — where in Seattle a cortado might just come to me as the little drink in its little glass, the staff at Sugar Brown’s know to serve it with a soda water«chaser» for palette cleansing and throw in a nice little shortbread cookie for extra measure. The pastries are delightful and made in-house. I had not known the wonder of kolaches before moving to Texas, and I have to say that SB really knocks them out of the park — the flake sea salt garnish is a nice touch. It can get busy with high school and college students at the expected times, but the energy they bring to the place is kind of nice, to be honest. Makes it feel a lot more vibrant than a lot of spots in town. If you’re in Lubbock and want great coffee, great atmosphere, and a great experience in general, check out Sugar Brown’s.

Atmosphere is really chill, tall ceilings and looks like an old ballroom. Scones are delicious and the chai is great!

Like most Lubbock locals, I had an almost religious devotion to the previous Sugar Browns before it closed down several years back. When they announced that they were reopening under new management, I was cautiously hopeful. Now that they’ve been open a couple of months, they’ve really hit a stride, and are dutifully(and deliciously) carrying the sacred flame. The first couple of times that I went they were still getting their feet wet, it was a bit disorganized, and the drinks weren’t what I wanted them to be. For the past couple of months, though, it’s been excellent. Especially their espresso drinks. It’s haunted at all hours by the usual suspects, sorority girls hunched in the comfy chairs shopping for boots online to avoid their homework, the ubiquitous bible study groups awkwardly trying to date each other, that guy you always see everywhere, but you can’t decide whether you know him or not. During their happy hour(from 2−5pm) most of their espresso drinks are $ 1, so you really don’t have an excuse to not go.

One of the best coffee locations in town! The coffee doesn’t quite compare to some of the locations that you can find in bigger areas. However, for Lubbock this is a coffee spot that you can’t miss! There Lattes are great and my favorite is the Sugar Brown. The rest of the lattes are good as well. I can’t attest to anything else as I tend to drink Lattes only when I go to Coffee shops. The atmosphere is relaxing and it is a great place to catch up with some friends, study or complete work. Certain days they have live music and those events are equally as fun. Although, it could be a little loud those who may want to study. The baristas are very friendly and any mistake that is made they will quickly correct. During one of my visits my wife and I ordered drinks and one of them came out hot instead of iced like we had asked. They quickly remade the drink and allowed us to keep the hot latte as well(as they should) . Great coffee, great service and I would recommend this spot to anyone in Lubbock and or visiting the area!

My wife and I took in the new and improved Sugar Brown experience in the new setting across from Lubbock High School on a recent Saturday night. The environment is an urban trendy, replete with concrete and wooden flooring, wooden planks for siding, and most impressively, a stamped tin roof. This is a vibe one would expect to visit in a more historic city, which makes this location a bit unique in the annals of West Texas coffee houses. The menu is concise and thus not overwhelming, which I appreciate. In this event, I went with an appropriate seasonal special called the Aspen, a latte infused with cinnamon and maple syrup. How could anyone turn down such a concoction? The flavor was decadent, and I was impressed with the glass saucer and mug that the baristas prepared and brought me my drink. The cozy couches looking over 19th street and the just right volume of indie rock music playing(I spotted a Jenny Lewis and Arctic Monkeys tune) made for a rather romantic and relaxed setting. For a Saturday night, the crowd was admittedly sparse, which I suspect has much to do with the location, which probably pays dividends for Sugar Browns on a Thursday workday but punishes on a Saturday night when many Lubbockites hunker down in the safety of southwest Lubbock. Still, I would recommend this spot for both a grab and go coffee for work or a postprandial romantic delight. Or, for groups of friends, it would be an ideal spot to grab a coffee after hitting the Depot District. They do have games like Monopoly and Sorry that a sobering up group could play, after all.

Hits the mark, love the Aspen latte this time of year. Great atmosphere! They have a raised seating area with two large leather couches that are great for visiting with friends. I also enjoy the cold brew coffee. Check it out!

Sugar Brown’s Coffee was a Legend in Lubbock on 50th Street that was closed down. Some one lovely name Justin Stice opened this establishment back up in a different location. I went today and loved it. The atmosphere was what made me love this new Sugar Brown’s Coffee so much. The ceilings are high and vintage with beautiful new modern lighting. The windows are huge letting in all of the pretty light or foggy rain. There are booths, chairs, and couches. It is a great place to study and have some peace and quiet. I loved how soothing the music was. The barista was very organized and attentive. He was the only one working and still managed to get everyone’s drink out within 10 minutes during a rush of over 15 people. I got a hot chai with a shot of espresso. It was perfection. It wasn’t too chai-y tasting, and the espresso added the right amount of bold flavor. It was served in a lovely hand stamped cup steaming hot. Good service, good people.

I often go to a coffee shop to meet a friend or work on projects with colleagues. So, it’s important for me that they have good beverage, lots of outlet, and some baked items in case I run out of energy. My latte came out nicely. The foam was stable and it was not too hot/cold. In terms of its flavor, just above the average. The instant aroma that hits the back of my nose was missing. The ambience is nice(white and bright!) and there were decors which made me think that they were probably some antique items from Lubbock. Other coffee shops that I often visit(Yellow House and Gatsby’s) seem to target college students/faculty members mostly but because of it’s location, it seems to attract a lot of high school students, too. I was truly happy to see that there was a racial mix. There were people hanging out from diverse ethnicity just hanging out. Also, it looked like there are several outlets in the coffee shop so it is a plus for a nomad worker like me. One suggestion I can make is to ask the customer if they wanted their coffee in a mug or in a paper cup. I personally think that it makes a big difference and I might have enjoyed my latte a lot more, had I received it in a mug. I will give them a try again!
