If you read my review of this place that I wrote yesterday, please disregard it. They«comped» the cost of my lunch today, and today’s burrito was up to their usual high standards. As for the unsatisfactory meal I had yesterday, well it’s all water under the bridge. Anyone can have a bad day!

It’s not bad, but not really great either in my opinion. It is close to campus, which is a huge plus. I’ve been in here several times, from game days to lazy Sundays. I love the way it is set up. It’s really cute. Think Cracker Barrel-type old fashion candies. I always find myself getting the candy cigarettes. The BBQ is pretty mediocre and the sauce isn’t that great, and it’s pretty expensive for what you get. They have Amy’s ice cream(which I am not as crazy about as many native-Austinites are), but for the hefty price tag I’d rather go to marble slab or cold stone. In all, I like going here when I don’t feel like driving and want to eat close to campus.

Ate here last weekend but just getting around to reviewing it! I had the two meat plate with the pulled pork and the brisket with the beans. The serving size was pretty big and it comes with 2 half slices of Texas Toast. The pulled pork was probably the best I have had had in a long time. The brisket was so so. Not something I would get again but not horrendous. The beans were so great too! In the dining room there is a sauce station where there was around 4 different sauces. I was partial to the brown sugar one, but they were all tasty! The atmosphere is definitely what would bring us back! There is a candy store with all old time candies. There is also a corner with chairs and board games and then of course. there is the Amy’s ice cream! Is there even enough words to describe this? There was flavors such as PB&J, Fruit Loops, Apple Pie, and my cousin’s now favorite– Bad to the Bone, a mix of beer, Rum, and some other alcohol(oops can’t remember!). I got the Key Lime Pie. I can’t even describe these ice creams, you just have to go try it! Will definitely be returning again! Talked to some friends who have lived there for years and they said they had never even been! So it’s defiantly not crowded with tourists– which is what I like!

Any Austin people reading? This place serves Amy’s Ice Cream! It is a really quaint ice-creamery, candy shop, and restaurant. They have daily BBQ specials and hundreds of candies to choose from. Recently they have also acquired«Sazon» in their location as well. This is a restaurant that used to be down the street, but the owner moved the restaurant and their menu into the Arrogant Texan. They are now owned by the same people. This hasn’t changed anything about the way Sazon’s items taste. They still have the amazing salsa and sauce bar. Featuring at least 5 salsas, chipotle ranch, and my personal favorite, Guaco-loco. Guaco-loco is a thinner sauce made of spice, avocados, and tomatillos. It tastes good on everything! They have also tried some BBQ/Mexican food fusions that are great. One of the examples is brisket nachos!

If you want good BBQ close to campus, this is the spot. BBQ wise this place is spot on. Everything was delicious and the plates and portions are more than enough to fill you up.(3 meat plate was too much for me!) Also, check out their watermelon juice for summer! Its so fresh! The set up is a bit confusing at first but its easy to get used to. You pay for the BBQ and treats on the right side while you dine on the left. The artwork and attention to detail is awesome and the posters gave us a laugh. I also like the privacy of the tall booths. The girls working there were awesome in helping us out, even if it was only the second day for one of them! They also have a multitude of BBQ sauces. I love the sweet BBQ sauce with the Jalepeno Sausage. The only reason this place doesn’t get the fifth start was because we called last week about the Amy’s Ice cream and they said their shipment had not come in yet. So thinking that its been a week, we went yesterday and they said their shipment hasn’t come in yet. With me being from Austin I sure do miss Amy’s being around the corner and would like very much to be able to have my favorite flavors again.(Saturday Morning Cartoons is the best!!)

This place is super cute. Decorated as an old fashioned candy shop — it took everything in me not to buy all of it. I came here for lunch the other day and order a pulled pork bbq sandwich — not bad, but not super amazing. Beware of the sauces they squirt everywhere as soon as you start to tip it over. I am guilty of making a huge mess of them on the floor — sorry! They feature Amy’s Ice Cream! Definitely a HUGE plus. I really enjoyed the musical playlist. And it wasn’t super crowded during lunch… actually it was kind of dead.

I was disappointed in the fact that they use to have way more of a candy selection. The girls were neither rude or nice. They just looked like they didn’t wanna be there. And the 2 out of 3 ice creams I tried were a grain like texture or just didn’t taste very good. This place has definitely gone down hill since they first opened.

Worst insult to BBQ and Texas food ever. Could not eat more than 3 bites. Sauces were so awful. Like vinegar and gasoline. No meats we ordered resembled any form of Texas or any other states version of BBQ. We tossed our food in the trash and went to the nearest dive to get the taste out! It was that horrific!

I had a terrible experience. My wife and I stopped in with some friends the night of the Carol of Lights at Texas Tech. The place was understaffed for such a busy night. And of the two employees working, one did not know how to do his job. Which if he is new is understandable. However, when I asked for a hot tea off the menu his response was«I don’t think we have those right now.» He did not try to ask his coworker who seemed to know more about her job. I am not convinced that they actually don’t have hot tea because the temporary sidewalk sign outside said ‘hot tea.’ My wife ordered a white mocha. The employee proceeded to pull out the ‘how to’ manual with a long line of people developing behind us. They don’t have an espresso grinder just a blade kitchen grinder. He scooped the coffee out of a little container. And after all that, there was no white chocolate flavoring in the drink. My 3 friends’ hot chocolates were not hot. And they didn’t have chocolate for a chocolate malt. The wait time was really long only to be further disappointed by bad service and quality.

The building is fun and there’s lots of stuff to look at. I go for the ice cream. Great flavors and it’s so creamy! The staff is always really nice and acomodating.

Fun place, great atmosphere and variety for the student with a sweet tooth. Great for gifting too. Recommendation to the owners: you should sell gift cards.

I only have tried the ice cream, and let me tell you, it is really good all the different types they have. They have some curious and old candies that remember me about my childhood, but they are expensive.

I was only here for the Shiner Ice Cream, the place is clean and they serve lunch as well. If I was staying longer, I would’ve stayed for lunch Shiner Ice Cream is good though, bit expensive, but good

Ice cream is fantastic! The BBQ is good, but kind of expensive for the amount you get. That is why I have not eaten the BBQ in almost a year…

Love the many different types of sauces. The meat was tender and juicy. The young man that assisted us was awesome, great customer service!

We went here because Mesquite and other place in town is closed on Sundays. Lesson learned: Never go out to Texas on a Sunday. Good thing they’re open. The waitress was nice, and gave us some recommendations. The sausage, as she recommended, is okay. The ribs is not that good though. But their sauce is good. It’s a weird set-up though because it looks like two different restaurants. You order in one side, and the other side brings your food. They have everything too. They’re like a barbeque place, ice cream parlor, and convenience store rolled into one.

Great shop, great location. Located on University, right across from Tech, the Arrogant Texan offers a little bit of everything: shakes, ice cream, coffee, snacks, candy, gifts, they even own a barbecue restaurant next door. The prices are great and the atmosphere is fun. Check it out.

This cute little ice cream and candy shop right across from the TTU campus is great! Their ice cream(from Amy’s) is FANTASTIC. I ordered the Mexican Vanilla which was basically mind-blowing, but also sampled the brandy, Guiness, and snickerdoodle flavors. All of the ice cream flavors I tried were true to taste and delicious. The«tiny» size is deceiving — somehow two scoops of ice cream fits in that tiny little cup and it ends up being a LOT. The Arrogant Texan also has a nice assortment of candies ranging from child’s candies to habanero peanut clusters to the traditional candies in neat old-fashioned wrappers. As the previous reviewer said, this place can be pretty pricey, but it’s neat to come in and grab some ice cream and browse for awhile if you can’t/don’t want to spend much. Definitely worth checking out!

Conveniently located across the street from campus, this little ice cream parlor is too close to resist for a lot of Red Raiders. It’s charming, the ice cream is delicious and there’s lot of candy! So why the 3 star rating then? Well, let me start by saying the ice cream and the location earned the 3 stars — which is saying a lot because I didn’t really care for much else. I ordered their«famous» hot chocolate — the Arrogant Texan hot chocolate — which had way too many ingredients in it. Remember when cocoa was just chocolate, sugar and milk with marshmallows? This stuff had so much cinnamon it tasted like I was drinking hot apple cider with a touch of chocolate. If it were called the Arrogant Texan hot cider, then maybe I could appreciate it more. My wife ordered their Godiva hot chocolate variation, which I also didn’t really like. Their ice cream is out of this world, though. They get their ice cream all the way from Austin, TX from a place called Amy’s. Let me tell you, Amy knows what she’s doing! We ordered the Mexican Vanilla, and although I couldn’t tell you what makes it Mexican, I loved it. It had a very good texture and it was so creamy. I don’t even like dessert much, but oh man, was this good ice cream. The candy shop has a lot of candies you can’t usually find in local supermarkets. There are some that you’ll remember having when you were a kid and others that you’ve never heard of. They carry some homemade chocolates and candies as well, but let me warn you — they are EXPENSIVE. We saw this little bag that had like, two chocolate covered cookies that were definitely homemade and very sweet looking, but they were 13 dollars! WHOA. $ 13 for two cookies that looked like Oreos? Are you out of your mind? Anyways, despite the expensive homemade stuff, the rest of the products sold are relatively well-priced and the staff there could NOT be nicer. They are super friendly and are willing to explain to you about everything they make behind the counter. Ask them to try a flavor of ice cream and they willingly oblige. If you’re a Texas Tech student and you haven’t been here before, then you’re just not as cool as the rest of us. Pros: awesome ice cream, conveniently close to campus Cons: hot chocolate tastes like apple cider, some candy is outrageously expensive.
