Comcast Service Center

We switched to Comcast this past Spring (2013) after a Comcast rep came to the house and told us that he could give us Cable, Internet and Phone for about what we had been paying for just DirecTV. It seemed like a good idea, a no-​brainer, but if I could go back in time I’d kick that guy’s butt out of my yard.
First, the installer botched the installation. He left saying that everything was fine, but it turned out he hadn’t done the phone setup right, so we were without phone service for a couple of days before they could come fix it. They also messed up the bill, and my husband had to take time away from work to go the Comcast office three times, plus several phonecalls, before they managed to fix it. AND, the original guy told us we’d have a local customer service line, so we’d never have to wait on hold. What a line of BS… we call the local line, and they just give us the general 800 number to call. Useless.
BUT THE WORST has been the cable. First, they didn’t give us all of the right channels we were supposed to have. That took a couple of phonecalls before they fixed it. And their equipment has been terrible. We’re on our third DVR in the living room already, and it looks like this one just crapped out too. Their equipment seems like junk, and just decides to quit working. So tomorrow I’ll be on hold for hours trying to get someone to come replace it with another piece of junk that will inevitably quit working in another couple of months. The DVR in the bedroom needs to be rebooted periodically because it just stops showing the channel programming… oh, and when your programs aren’t listed it obviously can’t record anything, so you lose your scheduled recordings, too.
Compared to DirecTV, the guide and on-​screen features are terrible too. It looks ugly and blocky, like something 20 years old. Such a step down from what we had before. Comcast in Lynchburg clearly just don’t care about their customers at all. They equipment is inferior, their service is terrible. And they just don’t care.

I wish Lynchburg had another internet provider. Comcast is horrible.

Comcast is the worst company I’ve ever dealt with. They treat customer like shit. They lie all the time.

They just stink. They lie, their service was designed for black and white TVs and they stink. They want to buy NBC, because they stink at delivering their current general cable services. Xfinity is a joke to compete with Verizon Fios. Rest assured, Verizon, there is nothing to worry about with Comcast because they STINK. They promised for three months to fix the intermittent interruptions. They also said they would credit the service once they fix the problem. At the end of the day, I figured out (not comstink) that it was just the box. Then when they replaced the box, which we had to go pick up, they gave us a ½ month credit. I can’t wait to see you fail! I’ll be pulling for you. No matter where you are… find some other way to watch TV. Comcast stinks.

Disclaimer: The following review discusses the cable service offered to Lynchburg residents by Comcast. It does not include commentary on the local office which provides customer care, billing and installation services, nor does it chronicle my experiences with Comcast’s call center personnel (where it typically takes multiple calls in order to find someone who can actually get anything resolved — ooh, perhaps a prelude to a future review).
Put simply, Comcast stinks. The company should be ashamed for charging its Lynchburg customers premium rates while delivering such a mediocre product compared to other markets. Don’t believe me?
Let’s start with the HDTV lineup… Wow, a whopping 13 channels! In most other markets, subscribers are offered close to 50 HD channels. Looking for the NFL Network in HD? Fugetaboutit! Ditto the Golf Channel, HGTV, Food Network, CNN, USA, History Channel, Disney, Animal Planet and many more. Ironically, Comcast doesn’t even offer is own brand, Comcast Sports, in hi-​def in this market!
Next, let’s take a look at the button on the remote labeled «On Demand»… Go ahead, push it! Nothing, right? Here’s what it’s supposed do: Deliver access to over 10,000 movies and shows each month (most are free) that are ready to play whenever you want to watch them. This includes newish movies (6+ months old), just-​aired network series (i.e. Heroes, Jay Leno Show) and national newscasts. This ain’t new technology, folks — we had On Demand in Northern Virginia prior to moving here in 2005!
Aside from the measly HD channel lineup, Comcast isn’t providing anything that wasn’t already being offered by cable companies in the early 1990’s. For instance, iNDEMAND Pay-​Per-​View, with its three or four movie options is a joke. At least in the past one could buy a movie and watch it all day; here, it’s one-​and-​done!
(BTW, does anyone else find it hysterically ironic that, in holier-​than-​thou Lynchburg, there are more porn Pay-​Per-​View options than regular movies?)
I know, I know… Comcast acquired this crappy cable system from financially bankrupt and morally corrupt Adelphia. But that deal was done in 2005. It’s now nearly 2010. So it’s high time for Comcast to upgrade the local infrastructure — if that’s indeed what’s holding back the services for which Lynchburg subscribers are paying a premium.
I won’t even get into the so-​called «high speed» Internet service at this time…
Angry and frustrated? Call Comcast to complain. See, Cablecos and Telcos are desperately trying to hang-​on to customers. After decades of taking advantage of customers (because there were no other choices), the tables have turned. So, call Comcast and find out whether they value your monthly recurring revenue stream. No doubt the service will still stink but, at least, your bill may be less.
