If you are looking for atmosphere, go someplace else! If you are looking for a quick burger or chili, look no further. The menu never changes and the crusty old souls behind the counter are in a funny way refreshing!

Have been to Tavern -(Texas Tavern) is the actual name dating back to 50s when it had just 10 seats-hundreds of times. It will never disappoint because it’s always the same. The Tavern is simply the paradigm for everything Lynchburg is and aspires to be. Heyday was when the foundrys Lynchburg foundry and Glamorgan went 24 – 7 and so did this ultra classic dive. The steel industry folded up but the Tavern simply moved across the street-and here it still is — amazing. No longer open all the time every day, which is too bad. But it’s survival is a great story. Bland food in a dive lunch counter setting and yes 4 stars! There’s just something special about a cheesy western, 2 hots all the way, a bowl all the way, and a cold coke from a glass bottle.

The T room is the epitome of drunk food and a local favorite for a reason. When I first moved here more than a dozen told me I HAD to check it out. Open late, the food is greasy, exactly what you’re craving after one too many. There’s not a lot of seating but the food is served quickly. It’s by no means a fancy restaurant — but that’s part of its charm. Our go to’s are a hot all the way — with cole slaw on top, cheesy all the way, and a bowl all the way.

Food was greasy and good — chili wasn’t anything to write home to mom about — but the lady made sure to tell me the relish was«a home made recipe» and it did make make the burger as good as it was. Not your typical hotdog relish — so don’t skip it! It’s definitely not kid friendly in the evening — staff drops quite a bit of foul language — but it makes the atmosphere interesting

Listen. The T Room is what it is. Don’t come here if you’re looking for a gourmet food experience. The Texas Inn is a Lynchburg(and Roanoke originally) staple and if you live here and haven’t been, you need to at least once. I’m on the fence about whether to give it 3 or 4 stars. Why 3? Because the food really isn’t amazing. It’s not good for you. This place is not really clean. Why 4? Because all of those reasons are why it’s amazing. No, the food isn’t something you crave typically when you’re sober, but, after you’ve been to a bar or two, you want it. Sometimes just late at night I want a cheesy. The food may make you feel yucky, you may say, «I’ll never do that again», but you probably will. Watching the guy make your food, you may question the cleanliness, but this place passes health code inspection just like anywhere else and has never been shut down, so it can’t be but so bad, right? So, what to get? The T Room is famous for its cheesy westerns. It’s a plain ol’ hamburger bun with a hamburger patty, fried egg, American Cheese slice, and relish. The relish, oh the relish. It’s not that green candy crap. This is yellow, cabbagey, only slightly sweet, tangy relish. I get double relish, and then I dip that bad boy in ketchup. Heaven. They also have hot dogs and chili(just ask for«a bowl»). The chili is bland to me, so, I’d recommend dousing it with hot sauce. The staff are part of the experience. They are classic Madison Heights, redheck, backwoods women. If you find that offensive, I’m sorry, but they are. They are sweet and rude, but they have to be. They take care of you but also have to deal with some rough customers. The atmosphere itself is small and quaint. It’s literally a diner bar type set up, an L shaped bar that seats no more than 15 – 20. People are constantly lined against the wall waiting for a seat, and then you’ve got the crowd that are just ordering food to go. Don’t go to the bathroom here, ok? This place used to be 24 hours, but, after the death of the owner, they’ve cut back. It’s 5 am to midnight I believe Monday through Thursday, 24 hours on Friday and Saturday, but they are closed on Sundays, so, basically, midnight Saturday night. Conclusion? Go once, you have to. It’s your decision whether you go back, but I bet you will.

I take my little brother there sometimes… in the daylight. It’s a dive; what else do you want? I don’t tell people how great it is if they visit this town. The reality is that it’s not great; it’s a crummy building with lots of character. You get what you pay for, and everyone is generally nice… during the day.

«Cheesy all the way, dog all the way, bowl all the way!!!» These are the kind of things that will be shouted over the shoulder of Bertha. I don’t know this woman’s name so I call her Bertha. You will understand. Also, Bertha doesn’t like you or any of your friends. You will see. The cheesy western is this master piece of grease, this art of meat patty, fried egg, mustard relish, and american cheese product slapped in between a flat bun. Don’t try to understand it, just put it in your mouth. The T Room(lovingly named by locals) doesn’t have private tables so that you may hide in your fried shame. You will sit with the rest of us at a bar, eat fast, and move on. The new and improved T room in cornerstone offers the same menu but definitely not the gritty atmosphere of the old downtown building. It is a great place for kids during the day but keep in mind after dark it’s sole purpose is for those who are inebriated to feed. Nothing better to sober you up than the sound of Bertha screaming about going all the way. In short, this place is a dirty little gem.

Love this place for comfort food & that it’s so close to downtown Lynchburg. The staff is super friendly and the server knows everyone who comes in & if not, she treats you like family. Very attentive. Part of the experience is hearing the locals talk about what they’ve been up to lately or shoot the breeze about their favourite football team. Definitely a must on the tour of this town.

Worst food known to man. Seriously, notoriously bad food… Only good in the eyes of wasted folk with little to no taste. The hot dogs are hot pink. The spaghetti is Chef Boyardee straight from the can. The ‘Funny’ is canned chili on a cheap hot dog bun. The cooks look dirty and have few teeth. How is this place still in existence? Drunk people?

Come here drunk and leave here happy. People who complain about the atmosphere are coming for the wrong reasons. The Texas Inn are for those who are at the bottom of their night and just need a Cheesy Western to lift them. This place is a comfort on nights that I can’t even remember! The women who work here will listen to you and even tell their own stories. It’s very cathartic. Come for the conversation; stay for the food.

One of the few melting pots in Lynchburg. Local characters are riot and the staff is friendly… to a point. They don’t tolerate rudeness and they will lay you out if you are rude. Best hangover food in the world. Clean even though it is considered a dive. You are not allowed to live in Lynchburg without at least one visit to this awesome place. The good if simple and delicious. Oh and for the newbies don’t try to order fries ;-)

This place is so local. Its so country. So down to earth. You got to try it. The food is decent. Good if you consider it fastfood. I’m giving this location 3 stars. Mainly because its not so clean. But fun place to check out when you want to sober up

This was one of the most mediocre meals I’ve ever ingested that I was able to keep down. The Cheesy Western was dry, overcooked and boring. The chili was the most flavorless slop I’ve had since tasting my 11 month old daughter’s baby food a few weeks ago. The oyster crackers are the best thing they’ve got, and they heap those bags of salty carbs at you generously, thankfully. Mountain Dew, and other Pepsi products, are on the fountain — so that’s a huge plus. The staff is not super rude, but is incredibly brusque. Don’t bring a date here, and don’t come here with even a modicum of expectations. If you want barely edible fare from a local greasy spoon, this could be your spot. There were several folks there that seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their food.

Cheesy Western double relish all the way. Yummy. The burger was great. Juicy and had been recently made. Love their homemade relish. Bowl all the way so good too. The addition of the relish, onions and crisp oyster crackers take it over the top.

This place was recommended to me as a «you have to go here as a Lynchburg required experience». Wow this place is scary disgusting. How is this place not shut down? The staff — not clean. The food — not good. The«restaurant» — not clean. Will never go back.

Went here for dinner completely because of the rating on Unilocal. The«Cheesy Western» with is amazing. Can’t beat the customer service either. The lady at the bar whipped together some franks and beans for my daughter when she could decide what she wanted. Super nice. I wasn’t impressed with the chili but will definitely be coming back and only getting a stack of «Cheesy Western» burgers. Yummy!

This locally own burger/hot dog joint that sits overlooking the James River(and looks like it will fall over any day) serves food at some of the lowest prices anywhere. On the menu is the usual items like hot dogs, burgers, omelets, biscuits, chili, pork BBQ, ham sandwiches, egg sandwiches and dessert pies. This place is open 24 hours if you need to get there anytime of the day or night. On this visit I had the Western with potato salad and both were average. And yes this place is SMALL so that makes it COZY with very little parking Food C Staff C Décor C Location B Health Inspection Grade A
