I like Wasabi’s. I think it has the best Japanese food in the Lynchburg area. I also like the cool sumo wrestlers when you walk in the place. Good service too. Make sure you rub Buddhas belly on the way out.

Ate there last night. Grand kids loved it. Why not big fiery flames enough to put any kid in awe… Food was Ok. The 5 of us had the food gamut. Steak, chicken, shrimp, lobster, kids meal, sushi, etc… Steak was so so, a bit grisley, chicken good, shrimp needed a bit more flavoring. To me the rice was the best for flavor. Would I go back? Sure. But maybe on a Wednesday for half price.

I go here for the Hibachi show with friends. It is entertaining and the food is pretty decent. The portions aren’t really consistent though, and dinner costs usually around $ 17+ per a person. They are good with accommodating parties, usually waiting to seat you until everyone has arrived.

Used to love half price sushi night but tonight was a disaster. 45 minutes to get a table. We were told 20 to 25. We watched at least 2 groups of four go before our group who came in after us. We sat in the hibachi area. Our two orders of sushi arrived an hour and 10 minutes later only after I threatened to leave. The tall waiter we had clearly hated his job and did not want to be there. When I got my bill he had not given me the half-price discount. Clearly the management needs to be changed. As we were leaving several policemen were coming in the building. Pretty sure we won’t be back anytime soon

I Made reservations for Wasabi and waited for over 30 minutes. The thing that made it worse was that the waitress said our table was getting cleaned off and we would be next, but then they let 5 other large groups in front of us. They didn’t have to lie about the wait and it just made it more frustrating. I felt even worse for the family that was next to us who was waiting there for an hour and they also had reservations. After we got a table we waited an additional 30 min or more to even order our food. The waiter we had was rude as well. My family came from out of town and needed to go home that night so we were all a little frustrated with how long we were there. This isn’t the first time we had to wait for a really long time either. I also had my bachelorette party a couple of months ago. My bridesmaid made reservations and it took them a really long time to get us a table. Also their sushi servings are so tiny! I will be going somewhere other than Wasabi from now on.

I’ve been coming to wasabi Wednesday since the opening of their restaurant. I’ve come here almost every week to get my sushi fix since it’s the most edible sushi in Lynchburg. I give it two stars because what I’ve noticed is that they’ve continually increased their prices. It’s not worth coming for their 40%-50% off anymore.

Food was just okay. But I had the worst service I’ve ever had at any restaurant. Personally I have 5 years experience working in wait staff. So please don’t think I’m just hard to please or I don’t understand the issues waiters have to deal with. We were a table of 4. The restaurant was full but none of our waitresses tables were in a rush. We asked for a sushi menu 3 times over 20 minutes before we were given one. Our waitress forgot to get everyones drink order. Then she forgot to get everyones food order. 3 of us chose sushi, the other chicken and rice entrees. We also ordered 2 appetizers. 1 appetizer was server within 10 minutes. Then the chicken and rice was served a few minutes later. The rest of the group watched as our sushi sat at the bar for over 15 minutes. Finally we were served the rest of our entrees and the missing appetizer all at once. No time during our meal did our waitress ask to give us a refill despite empty glasses. No time during the meal did our waitress return after serving food to make sure our order was correct and to our liking. Our sushi was served all on one plate. Our waitress was unable to tell us which sushi was which and didn’t offer to provide any plating for us to separate our orders. Please note: we ordered on 3 separate sushi cards. When we were finishing up our entrees our waitress asked if we wanted the check. She did not offer anything else; no desert, or drinks, or anything. We said yes and she then walked away for 15 minutes, returned and asked again if we wanted the check. Then she ended up double charging one person in our party. She told us she did and didn’t offer to fix it or get a manager. We left disgusted and unsatisfied.

Hibachi and sushi. We hit this place up when we want some sushi rolls — the sushi options are limited in the area and this is about as good as it gets for Japanese style foods. Non-Japanese run place has a sushi and hibachi side as well as a lounge area that is pretty decently sized. While we have had the hibachi, we did not sit at the hibachi grill– we sat over on the sushi side and just ordered from there — I did not need to see the stuff flying through the air. The sushi is fresh and there are plenty of gimmickie rolls to keep you occupied– but like most places, the rolls all tend to have crunchies and tuna — so you will need to go through the offerings carefully to get something that an adult would eat. The hibachi items were fine and the portion size was good sized. They have a full bar in the lounge area and you can eat there as well. Prices are average for hibachi type of food and some of the sushi rolls can get pricey. A solid place for a good meal. Parking in front.

Love coming for half off sushi on Sundays! The food is always great. The service can be a bit on the slower times depending on the time of day you go, which is to be expected. But overall, my favorite sushi place in the area.

Horrible service. I have been a server for over 5 years and will not be returning due to the service, extremely rushed. If the server was on fire maybe that would be an excuse for the way he shoved us out, due to the absence of flames I would assume… there was no excuse.

Very good sushi. They have soy paper which I like as an option. Sunday half price sushi rolls was a bargain. Might have been on the expensive side for the portions of not half price.

I took my nieces to this place around the dinner hour on a Sunday & was excited to get some long overdue sushi. Well to start off with the two absent-minded hosts who greeted us. They were friendly but when they asked if we wanted to sit at the grill or at a table, somehow forgot that they had no tables available. So why would you offer us a table if you had none?! Well they did have tables available but they were located in the bar area, which was fine & what we ended up settling down at. They had told us that they would let the bartender know that we would be dining there, they never did nor did they give us menus. The area was completely empty but 10 minutes went by before the indifferent bartender came to see if we were waiting for a table, Well she took our drink order but never appeared with menus, I ended up having to go back to the host station to get some. By this time I’m irritated while my nieces are saying that I’m being pessimistic & only looking for negative things. Alright, so I calmed down thinking I was just overreacting. So I had ordered sushi while they ordered teriyaki chicken. I got my plate first, however it almost came crashing down due to the«oh so happy to be there» bartender/waitress passed my plate to be in a rushing manner, not caring if I had it or not. Thank God for my cat like reflexes. She hurried away before I was able to notice that I was the only one at the table without a roll of silverware or chopsticks. Really?! So a few minutes later I inquired about the possibility of getting a set of chopsticks. Mind you, the bar was completely empty! Later one of my nieces was getting her soda refilled when another customer sat at the bar. That’s when we were forgotten about. I tried many times to get her attention but she wouldn’t acknowledge me. The person received their drink & a plate of food. The waitress then asked if we were good I told her we were not good. We had been sitting with empty drinks for the past 20 minutes. I came close to walking out and probably could of made it to Wards road before she even noticed that we had left. When the check finally appeared, she was quick to come collect it, while I was still reviewing the bill. The fiasco resulted in a 2.00 tip & that was me being nice! I will NEVER go back & strongly recommended those in search of decent service to look elsewhere.

We came to wasabi on Sunday for half price sushi. The sushi was decent but it took a very long time to get our food and the prices are a bit high if you were to go on a day that is not discounted. We sat at the sushi bar and it was cool to watch them make the sushi and overall was entertaining. This is a place only worth going to when it’s 50% off. Other than that, your going to pay quite a bit for some sushi that is average. Also, when you sit at the sushi bar on a busy night expect to get close with the severs… literally. They are reaching over you constantly to get sushi for the customers at the tables so hopefully they’ll be smelling fresh on the day you happen to go

Cool place to grab some sushi(not the best quality, but above average), have a good time at a decent price. It’s a bit of a walk from anywhere, and kind of on Liberty’s campus, so getting there is a bit of a pain(whether you’re walking or not… I don’t recommend walking there at all). Most of the waiters there are friendly but they speak broken English.

In my opinion, one of the better restaurants in Lynchburg. This place has a fun atmosphere and we always have a good time here. I’ve always been pleased with the hibachi and their sushi is one of the better places in this area. For those who have given Wasabi poor reviews I would just point out that this isn’t fine dining. You’re paying $ 15 or less for a meal; what are you expecting? I’ve never had a problem with the quality of the food and most of the time the cooks will cook your food to your liking if you request it. The service has been good too. Overall, I have zero complaints. We go here regularly.

I don’t know if there is good sushi in lynchburg, but wasabi is definitely not the best. The service can be slow… Like really slow… 1 hr to get your sushi rolls. Especially those days when the sushi is discounted. Although the servers were nice, I seriously thought of walking out and go get chick fil a. The food is ok. It is not bad, but it is not worth recommending. Their«special» rolls are mediocre at best. The volcano roll… Are you kidding me? They squirt shriracha like there is no tomorrow! What type of chef would do that to any dish. The other rolls are ok. I haven’t had the hibachi, but after the sushi experience, I will be eating somewhere else. Overall 2 stars. Sorry wasabi, but your average rolls and looooonng wait time deserved this honest review.

The food is solidly okay, and the hibachi ‘table show’ is pretty decent. But let’s cut to the chase: it’s a bit pricey, and what you’re paying for here is the overly dark, somewhat fancyish atmosphere. Service runs hot and cold — it really depends on who your server is, or what day it is, or some other factor. One plus, is that it’s right next to a movie theater. If you like hibachi or sushi, and you need to not be too far from the movie theater, so you can get into a seat on time, then this is a good location for that.

By far the worst dining experience of my life, and I’ve eaten in eastern Europe. The fact that I didn’t die a fiery death in my seat or succumb to the angry throes of botulism(or have the two occur simultaneously) saved this from being humanities worst dining excursion. A group of 11 met on a Thursday night at 6 to have a few beers, some sushi and hibachi, and warm up for an 8 o clock movie. This, I thought, should not be difficult to accomplish. I enter a business, they make me feel welcome, I order food and drinks, they arrive in a timely manner, I eat, I pay. This seems the common business model for restaurants across the globe, except Wasabi. Our server would have been out if her depth in a kiddie pool and had no right to serve the public. And even though she took the time to write down everyone’s order said orders did not arrive in a timely manner. Some orders did not arrive at all. Specifically the beer and cocktails. The food was abysmal. Chicken cooked into small inedible bits, shrimp that could not be distinguished from the chicken, rare steak that looked and tasted as if it had been microwaved into shoe leather even though it was prepared in front of our very amazed and incredulous eyes. What’s more, those in the group who ordered off the menu and not from the«grill» received their food 45 minutes after we had finished eating. And they ordered sushi. Someone explain to me how raw food takes longer to prepare than over cooked steak. I understand the laws of physics and this baffles me. Realizing that this train had derailed and the promise of service and hospitality were not going to be met I brought my attention to the manager. I would have had a more timely and welcoming reception had I written my congressman via carrier pigeon. This person, who’s attitude rested somewhere between smugness and disinterest, begrudgingly conceded to my claims of horribleness and horrendous service by granting me 10% off of my bill. In essence she said with this gesture«I only care 10%». Well, I care 100% about this and here by nominate Wasabi of Candler Station, Lynchburg, VA a contender for worst restaurant on earth.

Let’s get right to it. Go to Wasabi on a Sunday or Wednesday. They have half off sushi and it is AMAZING. Bottom line, specialty sushi for a couple dollars is an incredible deal. Our waitress was wonderful and knew all of the sushi backwards and forwards! She gave us her recommendations and even asked us what we usually preferred to eat. This is actually really important because they have sushi that will lean more towards fish or crab. I’m a vegetarian and their sweet potato rolls were delicious! The inside of the restaurant will only add more positivity to your experience. I fully encourage everyone to come just for a night of sushi. It’s a cheap and wonderful date that I will hint for my boyfriend to do again and again and again.. .
