We were looking for a place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of life and Royal Oaks Cabins was just what we needed! The owners, Keith and Sharon, were extremely kind, and full of great information on the area, everything from shopping, wineries, breweries, recommended hikes, and great scenery. I love history and Keith had interesting stories on the region that made me fall in love with the area even more. We stayed in cabin #8, it was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. If you can afford it — stay in Chalet #12, the view from that patio is gorgeous! He has various sizes and options, depending on your needs and budgets, and as long as the parkway is open — the cabins are available year round. The location is secluded enough that the nights are nearly silent, with the exception of the sounds of the forest. Yet, there is a lot of life, good restaurants, etc. within 15 – 20 minutes in every direction. When you stay here, take time to go stargazing, the only way to see more stars would be from a ship out to sea. I was almost disoriented the first night I looked up and saw the spectacular sight! Bring a telescope if you like, there is a big open field across from the cabins and it would be a good place to hang out and check out the universe. We were looking for quiet and disconnected, so we loved everything. I should warn you that Verizon cell phones don’t work here, but there is wi-fi, if you need to stay connected. If you come someplace like this, most people aren’t that concerned with the phones — so it wasn’t a big deal. As soon as you head toward any of the towns, the signal returns. This would be a great place for weddings, church youth groups, true love escapes, or just getting away from it all. Hiking on the Appalachian Trail and need a hot shower? This is right off the trail, and the smaller cabins are very affordable. I guess you can tell I’m a fan — we will definitely be back!

We stayed here for 3 days and nights while enjoying the sights of the Blue Ridge. I’ve got to say, we were pleasantly surprised with our stay. The cabins were as advertised, nothing spectacular, but very nice. However, the staff of Royal Oaks were awesome! They gave great advice on where to hike and what to see, even taking the time to draw it out on the map they gave us. I would recommend these cabins to anyone going to that area.

We totally loved this place. My husband found it online over the memorial day weekend and booked it last minute. The owner is soooo accommodating to us(2 kids 2 adults). We roamed the place and had a cabin for 2 nights — it was so much fun. Nature, bondfires, and great hospitality. You can’t beat it. My 2 girls(age 9 and 10) loved it so much that we are booking another trip instantly. You can’t go wrong with this place.

We greatly enjoyed staying at Royal Oaks! We visited on Memorial Day weekend and stayed in cabin 2. I didn’t have the time to research the vicinity and our only criteria was to be in a beautiful area where we could hike, enjoy the outdoors, and grill outside. So, imagine our surprise, when we learned that there were wineries, amazing trails, and breweries all just a 15 – 20 minute drive from our cabin! We discovered all the attractions thanks to Keith, the owner of the resort. Keith provided us with maps and took the time to suggest which hikes we should definitely check out and told us about other things to do in the area. While staying at Royal Oaks, we went on two amazing hikes, visited Devil’s Backbone, Hilltop Winery– a winery that specializes in fruit and honey wines, and Boldrock Hard Cider. We would have gone on more hikes and seen more places, but we also wanted to take the time to really enjoy our cabin, which was adorable. The cabin was clean and the kitchen was stocked with the essentials. We grilled every night and enjoyed eating outside. On our second night we went to the campfire that Keith organized; it was very nice and we enjoyed meeting the other guests. I would definitely stay here again and I recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy some R&R in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains!

Took my sister and some of her friends here for her bachelorette party. It was exactly what we wanted with all the nearby trails, wineries, a hot tub, and a fire place. The owners were so friendly and helpful with great advice on places to see and visit while we were in town.
