4 stars because, well, its a diner and no diner is worthy of 5 stars. But 4 is tops for a diner! I was working in a loft around the corner for a week. We went here daily and really enjoyed it! Probably the best homemade corned beef hash I have ever had, eggs cooked exactly as I had asked, and homefries well done. Chili was to die for as well. Next time Im in Lynn, Im coming here!

I’ve been hanging out in diners all my life — from Pats, in Orono Maine, the Park St Diner in Ayer MA — now gone, the Hudson Diner, now gone, about 6 diners now gone in Worcester, the Blue Moon in Gardner MA, the Mohawk in NYC and others I can’t even remember across the US in practically every state in the Union. The Capitol is the best. Every time I’ve been in there I see the owner, who chatted us up the very first time we went in. The last time I went in, one of the kids asked me how I liked my coffee before I even got my coat off and sat down. The food is basic diner fare, great quality, perfectly prepared, and lots of it. The waitresses are awesome, friendly and fast. The locals who are at the bar are friendly, not stand-offish, but not pushy. Half the times I’ve gone I’ve met a new friend. This diner makes me feel like I’m home. Which, to anyone who’s into diners knows, is what it’s all about. I read a few of the reviews here, and all I can say is if you think the staff is rude, chances are you’re a jerk and treat waitstaff like they’re dirt. You’ve for sure never been in a diner in NYC. If you think the food is expensive, go back to McDonalds. If you’re looking for fancy food, you shouldn’t be looking at a diner — though the omelets and eggs benny are great. I don’t like to use«greasy spoon» here, because the place is spotless. If you want to keep diners alive, you owe it to yourself to come to Lynn and have a great meal and experience here!

Yes it is true what they say. It’s as throwback to the«greasy spoon» dining car type diners that used to be so common, now not so much. Have had breakfast a couple of times an not disappointed. Really 5 stars for the friendly service(food is a solid 4+), they make you feel like a long lost friend the minute you walk in. Will definitely stop in whenever I am in the area!

If you’re looking for the best breakfast diner in the North Shore, I would totally recommend coming to Capitol Diner in Lynn. The welcoming crew creates the best atmosphere to enjoy their hearty breakfast selections – from their weekend Bennies(the Irish Benedict is my favorite) to homemade Belgian waffles. I’ve never been disappointed and neither will you:)

I would pass this place on my ride home when I first moved to Lynn. I parked my fixie nearby and stood about 20 feet away the first time I saw it. What the fuck was this. man? The work of some avante garde artist? Or was it a rare, urban mirage? perhaps it was simply some undigested LSD from the 60’s that had bubbled up back into my brain when I busted my ass on the Central Square Station steps a few moments before. Or maybe a combination of all three. I wasn’t sure. All I could do was look back as I was walking away to make certain it was still there. I came back the next day and. it was still there. This time, feeling braver, I stood a few feet closer, touching it. It even felt real. The distinctive cool singe of chrome on one’s fingertips is unmistakeable. Finally, one saturday morning, I decided to put an end to all this madness and investigate this mysterious looking train car growing out of a factory building. I went inside and sat down. A waitress gave me a menu and I ordered some eggs. I ate those eggs, paid my bill and left. Best fucking eggs of my life. And to think I was a vegetarian this whole time.

A wonderful gem in downtown Lynn. This place definitely reminds you of how great Lynn once was(and can be again). The food is good. Sometimes I think they lack a little flavor(depending what you get) but add a little butter and syrup, and you’re good. The home fries are a must. The service is kind. It’s a little confusing if you’ve never been there. You usually pay at the cash register, you don’t get dropped a check. i highly recommend the Texas French toast with powdered sugar.

I have known Bob(the owner) for a while and he and his staff are some of the nicest people who are dedicated to the restaurant and providing a welcoming environment for regulars and new comers alike. The food is cheap and made right in front of you(if you choose the bar seats which I recommend) and the diner is a great atmosphere of an old style diner which are rare these days. The regulars are also a great bunch. The Capitol Diner is an absolute must if you are looking for a quick place to eat and you really can’t go wrong going here.

Bring CASH, and it is expensive for a diner. Really nice staff, but waaaay too many waitresses. I guess we hit it at a lull.

Just about what you’d expect from a dIner– good food, cheap enough, and a friendly waitstaff who knew customers by name. As is the case for many of these small diners, cash only!

Great, mostly inexpensive food and nice atmostphere. My only complaint is they undercook the potatoes a little bit.

Love this place, it’s definitely by far one of the best breakfast spots in the north shore(if not, the best.) The vegetables are always fresh and the portions that give is just right. I always get my usual veggie omelette with bacon and extra mushrooms and they never seem to disappoint. The cook William is awesome he’s always smiling and making us feel welcomed and the owner is also very nice and welcoming too. Great staffs and food there! I highly recommend!

The head chef is the best, organized, clean, and his food flavorful. I love the breakfast, but I went here on a Sunday morning once and was sitting outside with my daughter and her friend and the waitress was so rude always giving my daughter dirty looks like she was in her way… HELLOTHEYREKIDSANDCANTSTAYSTILLENOUGHFORYOURSLOWSERVICE… The food was good, but I was dying to get out of there because of the waitress… I will be back but not on such a busy day… maybe a weekday next time.
