I returned tonight to Gaslight after having had an excellent dinner on Valentine’s Day. We are Aquitane lovers. On our first visit we raved about the onion soup, like Aquitanes best. We rated it an A+. We stopped by tonight craving that soup. We sat at the bustling bar and ordered an excellent Sancerre and a bowl of their A+ soup only to be served a watered down B-. The flavor was weak and vinegary. The richness was missing. With our favorite Aquitane closed for renovations, this may not fill the bill. The salad was good and the escargot okay. Disappointed tonight, but maybe it was an off night. The Valentine’s visit was a 4 or 5 this was a struggling 2. Keep trying.

I have a real mixed opinion here. First off, the smell is fantastic — one of the most appealing scents you’ll encounter in a restaurant. Then, the menu is absolutely overwhelming with masterful sounding French classics. And many of the dishes are well executed. However, after a few visits, I have had very, very good, and fairly underwhelming(if original). So the french onion soup: superb. Duh. One of the better ones I’ve had, and I’m always on the hunt for the best. The duck confit risotto sounds divine, but frankly was a bit underwhelming. I didn’t get much duck in the dish so it wound up just feeling a bit like meaty, plain risotto. I took a risk and ordered the cauliflower«sampler» or whatever it was called. Perhaps I should have known better. It was simply 3 cauliflowers with 3 different(admitedly unique) different flavors sprinkled on top. The escargot was very good but perhaps a bit too herby for my tastes(plenty of garlic though, which was nice). Now, all the steak is really fantastic. The app list is to die for. Love the atmosphere — comfy, dimly lit for ambiance, and spacious. I definitely recommend, but I would say stick to basics here and don’t be tempted by the exotics.

Went tonight with girlfriends and split appetizers. Brussel sprout salad dry, snails ok, meat cheese platter sparse and tasteless. Restaurant represents themselves as high end eatery, but not worth the visit.

We dined at Gaslight in Lynnfield last night. The restaurant is large and attractive, reminding me of Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square. I had a beet salad. The serving size was good and quite tasty. My main course was steak frites. The steak was tasty and cooked correctly, but the serving size was small. The fries were limp, greasy and sparse. My wife had a asparagus salad, three pieces covered in a white sauce topped with an fried egg. She was so-so about it. Her main course was duck confit which was so salty that she couldn’t finish it. I will say that we cook a home with very little salt and are particularly sensitive to it. The manager stopped by our table and comp’ed us for her dinner. Overall, I think Gaslight needs to up their game by a couple of notches if they aspires to be in the Eastern Standard catagory.

Not impressed. Service poor. Waitress brought our bottle of champagne after our appetizers came. 2 of my friends got the Burgers. They were very happy. Myself and my other friend got the Steak Frites. The meat was unseasoned and was just ok. For dessert we got their«special«banana bread pudding. The bread pudding was over cooked, bitter and was like a rock. We informed the waitress and she took both desserts off the bill. I appreciated her for doing that although I was surprised that a manager never came over to talk to us. It’s safe to say, none of us will be returning to Gaslight.

Just got back from dinner at the Gaslight. I have never written a review for Unilocal before so please bare with me. I have eaten at some great and some good restaurants over the years. The last french bistro was in Burlington VT. We thought we would go out for a quick bight instead of L’Andana or the Capital Grill boy were we surprised. My wife and I had dinner at the bar since we had no kids. We ordered a bottle of wine for our meal. Our Bartender Leah(spelling might be wrong) was very personal and had a smile at all times. She did a wonderful job while still helping the table bartender with glasses. We started with the Duck Confit risotto. Which was rich in complex flavors and mushrooms to die for. Great value for the amount of work that needs to be put into it. I had the Icelandic Cod and my wife had the Dried aged Rib Eye.special. She said hers was very tasty, Mine was one of those meals you dream of having when you go out for a good meal. I was shocked at how good it was. it was put on my top 10 entrees after two bites. The mussels and cod were cooked perfect. The oysters that they add to this dish were a wonderful surprise. On the bottom of the dish were two thin slices of bread that sucked up some of the complex tomato based sauce. Even the tomatoes and zucchini had such wonderful flavor. I would save some of the begat that they give you before your meal to such more of the sauce. We finished with the dark chocolate cake with port. I would like to see a ice wine added to the menu and some french pastry but its not my restaurant. On the way out we meet the General Manager Mike and told him how good it was. We told him we were a little worried to try the Gaslight after reading the Unilocal reviews. He admitted that they had some glitches they had to work out in the beginning. After what we were served i would say they did very well at fixing them. I believe that people Unilocaling on everything and everything they do or eat seem to just like their words out there for the world to see. I also believe they don’t understand the work that went into the food that was prepared or complex flavor they put into this food. So I would say don’t take them very seriously. On Friday we go to the CBar but i think we will be going here at least half the time. Thank you everyone at the Gaslight for a wonderful experience.

I give two stars because the food is awesome but the service is soooo slow. We ordered half a dozen oysters, the Bibb lettuce salad, and the shrimp cocktail. They came out at a decent time. The shrimp scampi and the angus burger we ordered an hour ago has yet to show up at our table. I am hungry and thinking about going over to Wahlburgers and giving them my business if we don’t get our food in the next 10 mins. They are slow bringing the food out, like an hour slow.

This was the most expensive restaurant I’ve ever dined in. Fine French restaurant food and prices, café service. We had no bread plates for the small loaf that was delivered and had to ask for some. The waiter never mentioned the specials. The waiter asked us if we were ready to order food without taking a drink order. Never asked us how the food was. We thought that something besides the steak and mushrooms would come with the $ 46 steak and mushrooms — mashed potatoes, something? No. And the waiter didn’t tell us or ask if we wanted a vegetable. The bill? We had one steak entrée(no sides!) one order short ribs, 2 glasses wine(American, not French) split a dessert(apple tart) and one cappuccino. $ 146.

The two stars are for the excellent dessert and the courteous waitstaff. I will admit, there were numerous occasions where we were hunting him down, but his personality and good service made up for the frequent absences. I give the food one star and the value a sincere negative one. I’m in utter disbelief that a 30 dollar scallop entrée does not come with sides. A 40+ filet doesn’t either. The menu will make you believe that they do, but a smear of a «sauce» and two micro cauliflower is not a side. Needless to say, we were all hungry and the bill was outrageous. We ordered a side after realizing we were screwed, but long after our plates were clean, we cancelled the side. It bothered me deeply that the only Cabernet on the wine list was a $ 15 per glass one. Really? We like 2 – 3 glasses each and we all have different tastes. I refuse to pay $ 15 for a mediocre cab. Honestly, the food all tasted decently good, but to leave hungry, not tipsy and kinda«meh» after spending 300 bucks for 4 people… I’m just angry. They wanted to go to Pellana and I suggested Gaslight. We should have gone to Pellana for that money. At least we’d be ecstatic with our meals and I wouldn’t be embarrassed.

My first impression beautiful atmosphere and décor in the entire restaurant. Friendly host minimal time for waiting no reservation was needed. friendly wait staff and our delicious drinks came out very fast. I love French food and I have to say that it was fast delicious and quality for the price was well worth it. Highly recommend this place for couples, families and large groups. Will definitely go back to this restaurant for an overall great experience for the quality of food and atmosphere. Highly recommend trying the sangria it was very delicious.

Had a super disappointing steak dinner here— about 2 bites of steak were delicious… Rest was fat, waste. Had to spend a fortune for very average meal. Small portions… Every side extra. Had many many better meals at many other steak houses. Left feeling like we spent way too much for only mediocre meal. Even bread was disappointing! For these prices it should not be a crummy roll that tasted like it was from Stop n Shop! Boooo! Decided to give it one more try– for Sunday brunch. Brunch was excellent. Great menu,(had crepes)…fair prices, great Bloody Mary. Would recommend brunch but Definately NOT dinner.

The food was quite good, but a dining experience involves much more than food. Unfortunately, on our brunch trip, those other things were mediocre. The hostess stand was somewhat disorganized and it wasn’t clear who was in charge. We ordered, but didn’t see our waiter much after that. The wait staff seemed preoccupied with a larger event(just guessing here) later that day. Whatever the distraction, it was clear their focus was elsewhere. Very slow on the water refills, difficult to get our waiter’s attention, few smiles. Again, the food(turkey hash and dutch pancake) were quite good, but we likely won’t be back. There are many good restaurants in the area and one lackluster experience, unfortunately, is enough to put this on the«happy we tried it, but not impressed» list.

FINALLY … A restaurant in Lynnfield’s Market Street I actually WANT to go to and enjoy. I have been let down time and time again with Market Street’s food scene. Nothing had wowed me just yet. Until Gaslight finally opened up. I really liked their south end location, and was pleasantly surprised to have an absolutely fabulous meal and experience is their new location. The food was crazy good. Had the venison(like hello– where else are you going to get yourself some delicious deer in the area??) and the Veal Chop, which were both out of this world good and cooked to perfection. The wine list is too notch. Enjoyed an *exceptional* St Emilion at $ 75(great wine and even better price). Bartender was super friendly and read his guests well– like he knew when to talk to us and when to just leave us be. I am also interested in renting out some of the space for a bridal shower. Their event planner, Ashleigh, has been VERY helpful and responds quickly to my emails with quotes and information. She recommended some of the food to us when we had first gotten there and she really knew her stuff! Thanks Gaslight– we will be frequent diners!

My issue with gaslight isn’t entirely the food… it’s the way in which its presented. I order the sticky ribs… they were server in such a way I could not see the food… rule one with gourmet food is presentation… leave the cheap cast-iron off my plate and serve it so I can see it! Steak portions only go up to 14 ounces… the crème Brule was not delicate, it was burnt bitter sugar over weak custard… capital grill crème Brule is 100 better. I would say skip this place if your in Lynnfield.

We moved up to the North Shore from Boston three years ago, and have looked for a quality restaurant in this area, to no avail, since. There are many OK places to eat, and we had resigned ourselves to the reality that we sacrificed good restaurants when we moved out of the city for a great house and lots of open space. I’m happy to say that this place finally puts that lament to rest, giving us a quality restaurant that doesn’t require trekking back into the city. As a bonus, Gaslight is kid-friendly, with a kids menu and very thoughtful waitstaff. The food was good to great, all around, from a fantastic tuna tartare appetizer and solid charcuterie plate; to perfectly-cooked salmon and steak(with vegetable sides only OK). Cocktails were also excellent. Waitstaff was exceedingly thoughtful. This thoughtfulness may have led to the one knock against the restaurant, as service was a tad slow, even taking into account the busy Tuesday night that we visited. This is a restaurant we will return to, repeatedly, and is already our go-to dinner spot. We are excited by this addition to the North Shore.

I went here Friday night with a good friend. We had 6PM rezzies. The entres we wanted were sold out so we had to pick new items. I was surprised that they were out of duck at 6PM on a Friday night. The escargot was amazing, the tuna tar tar was a 7 out of 10, fresh but not the best. The duck rotisserie was pretty good, the piece of duck was yummy but bok choy isn’t something I really wanted paired with my duck — but we couldn’t get the item we actually wanted. They served the martinis half full with the rest of the martini in a test tube looking glass in an ice bucket like Abe & Louies does but TWICE the bus boy took away the other half of my martini in the test tube when clearing the table… The drinks were okay, a little sweet. They originally brought us the wrong side but fixed that. The mushroom side was good. Crème brulet was yummy.

I dined here at Gaslight tonight, actually, and during a quick winter storm burst, power was knocked out throughout the entire Market Street Plaza and much of Walnut St. area in Lynnfield. It was a little jarring for a restaurant’s music to cease, everything go dark, and hear backup generators go on. Mind you, the Gaslight only just opened, so facing a challenge like this I am sure was only adding to what the staff is facing getting acclimated to the menu and influx of new diners. However, the management handled the situation very well. The stovetops were unable to stay lit due to the power outage, yet alternatives were quickly offered such as raw bar, or what we had — a petit charcuterie board with prosciutto, pâté, and Brie. The board was served with tiny pickles and vegetables, whole grain mustard, and apricot spread, and these delicious toasts you could use to dig into the pâté. Presentation was quite impressive and everything was delicious and fresh. The menu itself was not something that I felt overly interested in, but at the same time I admit the menu definitely separates itself from anything else in the plaza — and anything else in the North Shore. If the same commitment to quality is there throughout, I have no doubt anything I ordered would have been great. Even my cocktail — a twist on a Negroni called a 560 Harrison — was flawless, delicious, and memorable. In the end, the manager informed us that they couldn’t proceed with dinner, and that our drinks and appetizer were on him. He thanked us for our business, and asked us politely to come back and try them under better circumstances. And you know what? I will. I liked what I saw and had, and anytime management — even during the launch of a new restaurant — are equipped to do damage control this well during a crisis, I have to applaud them and trust to come back for the experience they clearly wanted us to have.

We found Gaslight on our way somewhere else. I don’t think they’d been open barely a week so we didn’t know what to expect. From our first contact with the hostess to our departure, our experience was first class. They have an impressive wine list. Every dish was elegantly prepared and presented and delicious. The service was excellent. While pricey, the dedication to excellence made our evening thoroughly enjoyable.

Some grand opening woes for sure. It took almost 25 minutes to place our order after being passed by many times. Had the grand plus seafood tower which was great, French onion soup was good but the entrees were not satisfactory. Steak came out cold, was supposed to come out with melted butter but it was left there so long that the butter had solidified and the far juices in the steak were dried up and solid as well. Wife had the sea bass which was okay but she didn’t like the sauce. The best part of the meal was the side order of mushrooms to be honest, everything felt under seasoned or lacking in the flavor department. It’s very sad but Overall disappointed considering we loved the Boston location but we will give it another shot once they’re open longer.
