This is great fun. It’s definitely worth checking out and trying a lesson here and the Saturday night party dance nights is amazing. Its a much older crowd and lots of Asians. Sometimes they will host Hawaiian parties and those are very fun to attend. They cater food and its a good time. They play the same songlist every week and that can get very old. The owners are really nice and kind. They know how to ballroom dance. They accept walk-ins. I think it’s $ 10.00 to walk-in. You dont need to come in with a partner. People will ask you if youd like to dance but dont feel intimidated. There are lots of regulars there but they like seeing different faces there too. During the week there are night lessons as well, and vary. Check their website out for more information. I’d recommend checking this place out one weekend night.

I’m long overdue in posting my shout-out to this little jewel on Ogden in Lyons. I had driven passed many times and finally decided to get a sitter and check it out on Argentine Tango night with my hubby. Each month, the studio rotates a different nightly assortment of dance instruction, followed by open dancing with music after the hour long dance lessons are complete. It was a trip. First, I need to say that my husband and I are an interratial, white and Chinese couple. I had absolutely no idea until I stepped foot in the place that this dance studio is a mecca of sorts for Asian ballroom dance lovers all over the Chicago metro area. Asians came from Chinatown, Naperville, Schaumburg, all over to dance here. Most were seriously good dancers. That said, even though we are newbies, we had a great time learning from Forest who made the dancing accessible and fun. This is not a bar(no alcohol is served), it is exactly what the name implies… come if you want to dance for fun. I am looking forward to going back. I would love to be a regular(you can buy an annual membership super cheap), but my kids are too small right now for me to take proper advantage. Some day…

I’ve noted some interest in ballroom dancing and had to mention this little diamond in the rough. Dance For Fun is a dance studio/club where you can learn how to dance ballroom for a mere $ 10. More importantly, stick around and you can practice during the weeknights until they close or come during the weekends and join the parties, still for $ 10. There are some serious ballroomers here, so if you aren’t serious about learning or dancing ballroom, DONOT come. And while the patronage leans toward the 50+ crowd, you know you’ll be learning from the more experienced. I love dancing with the older gentlemen because they know what they’re doing!!! And they don’t get mad if you don’t! Forest and his wife, Gigi, are the two most encouraging and motivating people when it comes to dance. Forest is probably the most patient instruction I’ve met. Anyone that can make my husband feel comfortable with his two left feet is right on the money for me. Hey, for $ 10 bucks, where else can you learn, then practice what you learn with others? You can’t go wrong here. Try it… you might just like it.
