Being gluten free I was worried I wouldn’t have many meal options on the island, but was overjoyed when I found this place. Their DIY salad bar has everything! There are 5 kinds of greens, tons of veggies, beans, and a variety of other toppings you can chose from for your salad. They also have a menu of soups, wraps, and smoothies which include gluten free and dairy free options. The self serve frozen yogurt was delicious– I highly recommend the mackinaw island Carmel fudge flavor! If you like toppings their toppings bar has everything you could dream of! Fruit, candy, sprinkles, you name it it’s there! The owner was there and was really friendly to us. This place is a definite must on the island!

My kids loved getting to choose their frozen yogurt & then pick toppings from tons of fun choices! This is a great shop trying to give families a healthy choice while still giving kids some fun! The stools at the front window were their favorite!

We were so grateful to find this place offered vegetarian wraps! On an island full of overpriced, mediocre meals, where healthy isn’t the most available option, Twist and Sprouts at least offered something my wife and I could eat! We both got the vegetarian wrap, with chickpeas and artichoke hearts in a spinach wrap. It wasn’t great food by any stretch of the imagination, but the only other options for a couple of vegetarians were $ 23 pizza or frozen veggie burgers. Well, I guess we could have eaten fudge for breakfast, lunch and dinner but I don’t think that would last very long. They had a small salad bar and I saw a few people assembling their own as we waited for our meal. They also serve froyo. Why oh why on this island that boasts so many great ice cream shops would you get froyo? I guess I’ll never know. If Twist and Sprouts were located anywhere else, I’d give it 2.5 stars. But since I was a captive audience on Mackinac Island, it earns 4 stars simply for having a vegetarian option that didn’t feel like an afterthought.

Good place to get a light, guilt-free lunch, so that you can fill up on fudge and ice cream in the afternoon. Decent salad bar. Didn’t try the frozen yogurt or smoothie. I hope they’ll someday put some shades or UV protection on the windows. We were cooking in there…

We needed a healthy veggie lunch after eating all that vacation meat! Hopped in here for a scrumptious salad bar with iceberg, kale, spinach, and mixed green options with all kinds of healthy tasty toppings. Met the owner and he was attentive and polite. And he loves babies!

I get it. It’s a tourist joint so the owner doesn’t have to be nice because we won’t turn in to regulars. Not being nice is one thing —– being utterly rude is quite another. My husband and I and our two year old daughter wandered in on a Monday afternoon to check out the salad bar. We were literally the only people standing, we’d left the stroller outside, and the kiddo was quiet. We weren’t blocking anything or making a ruckus. We checked out the options and left. Here’s where it gets interesting. Hubs went next door to get a sandwich, and I went back in to Twist & Sprout to get a salad. As I entered, I heard the owner complaining to a table of customers about how rude we were to go into an establishment — and with a child no less — and then leave without buying anything. He was complaining about my family to a table of customers. Seriously?! I will certainly not be returning to this establishment when we’re back on the Island next summer. By then it will most likely be a t-shirt shop anyway.

Not very nice to say you don’t have a faucet to refill the bottle of water I just bought from you. Gave a nice tip, too. I guess you need to milk another $ 2 from another tourist. Won’t be back. Nice location on Main Street in Macinac Island. Yes, you clearly have a faucet.

Quite possible the worst frozen yogurt I’ve ever had. The yogurt was melted when it came out and I was told«that’s just how it is, it’s fine…» Even melted, it was still crunchy, like it had ice crystals still. They didn’t let you have samples for flavor preferences(EVERY yogurt shop I’ve ever been to allows samples) but the terrible consistency is probably why. Chocolate chips were melted on the line. Just an overall TOTALLYNOTWORTHITEVENWITHTHECOUPON experience.

My wife is Vegan. She ordered the Vegan wrap. She was pretty excited as she saw the wraps the other people were getting. When her wrap came out is was tiny. It was a very small amount of beans, a couple pieces of onion, a little bit of corn, and a bunch of oil all wrapped in a small piece of lettuce. It was about one inch in diameter. She could of made the exact same thing at the salad bar without the oil for about $.80. Instead she got to pay an outrageous $ 10 for that despicable piece of food. After that she was still hungry so she got a vegan pineapple banana smoothie. It was watered down, and pretty much flavorless. If your vegan go with the salad bar, and avoid everything else.

It’s $ 10 for a wrap with some chips and $ 10 a pound for the salad bar which is pricey but everything is pricey on the island. My mom got a small side salad which cost her $ 4.50 and she was shocked at the high price of a few greens. Three of us enjoyed the wraps and would return. Two of us thought they were decent but wouldn’t go back. I’d give it 4 stars if the wraps came with a healthy side besides the unhealthy deep fried chips. Good place for people on restrictive diets where they can get soup and salad. The owner is always there and eager to please. A note about frozen yogurt: people eat frozen yogurt because they think it’s healthy alternative to ice cream but it has the same effect on your blood sugar levels which is what makes you gain weight. It’s the sugar not the fat that causes harm to your health and waist .

As we walked up and down Main Street in search of sustenance, we were thrilled to find this little restaurant. Don’t let it small size keep you from coming inside. They have a wonderful menu filled with healthy options of all kinds. We had the veggie wrap … so yummy!!! The ingredients are fresh and well presented. The staff is friendly and eager to please. Check it out … you won’t be disappointed.

Good place for vegetarians. They had an excellent vegetarian wrap, which two of us took. Another person in the group took turkey wrap which was good. The vegetarian chili was ok too. The only reason I took away one star is because I prefer my wraps toasted and not cold. Also, they did not have any hot sauce for those who like their food spicy.

Great smoothies, great wraps, good froyo, ok service. This place is a great change from all the greasy food on the island. I had the peach mango smoothie which was a perfect mid-afternoon snack. My wife and I split a Chicken Caesar wrap which was tasty and had generous portions of both chicken and spinach(we definitely recommend substituting spinach for lettuce). The froyo was decent and good enough to come back again for. The topping selection(fruit specifically) looked a bit picked over. We may have stopped by right after the mid afternoon rush. The owner was great and accommodating; he made sure to stop by our table and speak with us personally. The experience could be enhanced by providing sample cups for froyo tasting(much like the standard froyo establishment) and more efficient and enthusiastic customer service.(though we noticed that staff performance improved when the owner was present). Bottom line, we will definitely come back for more, but may just stick to their wraps and smoothies.

Vegetarian, vegan or just don’t want deep fried fudge? Eat here. The wraps are so bright, perfectly dressed. The salad bar has fresh snappy tasty options. The soft serve has a vegan option and is, well, soft serve. Eat here, seriously. This restaurant alone is worth the ferry ride.
