My husband and I enjoyed fantastic pizza outside with our two doggie friends. Our shrimp and spinach pizza was delicious. What made this pizza stand out was the red sauce… being Italian, I particularly enjoyed the obviously home made red sauce. Debbie, our server was extremely attentive(she brought extra plates for the dogs!) and we were in and out in no time at all… did I mention it was very easy to pop over to Ashley’s afterwards for an after dinner ice cream cone?

Excellent pizza near home. Always prompt with realistic time estimates for pickup. My favorite pizza is a red pie, which Grand calls a «plain.» Margarita pizza is also excellent. Most often ordered is mushroom & black olive(would prefer green olives but…). In my opinion, it is every bit as good as New Haven apizza, though every now and then I must go to NH to prove the point. Delivery is available 7 days, but I always pick up. When I’ve tried delivery, the pizza has to go back in the oven before eating.

The Madison store is a «no go». Ordered minestrone and broccoli rabe/sausage take out… it was absolutely awful! Soup had no flavor and was ice cold. Broccoli rabe was worse… definitely not Broccoli rabe. Instead, they used fully mature broccoli stems and florets diced into small pieces pretending to be broccoli rabe… steamed, watery and not sauteed in garlic. The penne pasta was so overcooked it tasted like glue. Sausage had no fennel and absolutely no taste. Seems as if the owners/managers from Clinton store, which is consistently good, have hired young inexperienced kitchen help for Madison and aren’t overseeing or managing this relatively new enterprise. Their reputation will suffer.

Not great, but not awful. Was unhappy with pizza that was delivered with the cheese completely off the top on both pizzas

The pizza is good but it’s sad the service is super slow. I think our waitress forgot our pizza because it took 1 hour to get the pizza. Hopefully it’s not always this slow but it’s very disappointing. I enjoyed our pizza in my car because my husband and I got annoyed and just asked for the pizza to go instead of dining in the restaurant. Basically it ruined our date night… Call ahead for take out :)

One hour wait for delivery ordered at 4 in the afternoon. Cardboard-like pizza that tastes as though it’s been sitting in the box for that whole hour. Oh, and my credit card was charged for two additional orders from Grand Apizza that were not mine. I recommend this place if you like to wait extended periods of time for tasteless, dry pizza, or if you look forward to spending time calling your bank to get fraudulent charges removed.

Just opened up and gave them a shot. They are cheaper than some places around and the quality of the pizza has a good new haven taste. I enjoy this place a lot better than the previous Greek pizza shop. I order here and new haven apizza only if I’m in madison area.

They sell pizza by the slice– $ 2 for cheese and $ 3+ for specialty slices. typically they have 2 – 4 types to choose from. I recommend for a quick grab and go. I’ve sat down for lunch during the week. Even when they seem to be slow expect to sit and wait a while. Food is usually good. Thin crust pizza with a slight char on the bottom. Grinders and over stuffed breads also good.

Real New Haven style pizza. The best outside of the city. We had a pepperoni pizza and two calzones one with broccoli. Everything was so delicious. We had it with Foxon Park Birch Beer which is a must.

Great pizza – very flavorful and just as good as the new haven three(well, two now). The only issue I have is with the delivery – the pizzas arrived lukewarm and mashed up beyond recognition. Simply securing them before taking sharp turns and driving like mad max would’ve saved the pies but alas, we weren’t so lucky. They still deserve 4* though.

Pizza was good however their sizes are very small. Their large was more like the size of a medium. Wish I had know so I could’ve ordered an extra one.

I brought a group of four adults and six kids for pizza. We all really enjoyed the food(Florentine and chicken, mushroom, eggplant gourmet options), which we found to be tasty and reasonably priced. My complaint was with the waitress, who was particularly unfriendly. It started when my brother in law asked her to set up a table just for the kids, and continued when she lectured him for ordering a menu item that she had indicated earlier that they were out of. He said he didn’t hear her initial explanation, but she was rather ruthless in her response to his request. All four adults at the table found her response to be offensive. Obviously, the customer is not always right at this restaurant. If you don’t mind the possibility for dealing with a waitstaff with an attitude, you will certainly enjoy your experience eating their terrific pizza.

I’ve tried. I’ve really tried. I can say that I have not had anything exceptional from here — pizza, breads, pasta, grinder. And, every time I’ve eaten in the restaurant the service gets worse and worse. I was in the restaurant with 1 other table tonight — and my «waitress»(at least I think that’s what she was) walked by my a dozen times doing silly tasks before acknowledging my presence. My toasted grinder came out quickly… mostly because it WASN’T toasted. She left my check and I timed her. She complained to the kitchen staff about the .50 cent tip the last customer left and then watched TV. After 12 minutes I brought the check to the counter. That’s my last visit there — you can’t have average food and shitty service.

Came in for lunch earlier in the week. Service was on the slow side even though there weren’t too many people in at the time but it was fine as we weren’t in a rush. A soap opera was playing on tv as we decided what to order. We were happy that we could get pizza by the slice. I ordered a slice of sausage and slice of pepperoni. Sausage was great, pepperoni was pretty good but a little on the salty side. The Greek salad was sad, the ingredients«lacked care and thought,» as my dining companion stated. The young lady behind the counter and who was also our server was pleasant. The guys making the food kept a clean kitchen — very important! Glad we finally tried this place. We have wondered about it for many months.

I have mixed feelings about Grand Apizza after our most recent experience with them. As a family, we’ve stopped in for pizza a few times and enjoyed it. The dining area is small, but the service was good and the pizza is one of our favorites. I’d highly recommend Grand Apizza if you plan to dine in and have a rather small group(any more than 4 people and you’ve have difficulty with the seating). On the other hand, we recently ordered delivery for the first time and will never, ever, do that again. It was without a doubt the worst pizza delivery experience we’ve ever had. Yes, it was a Friday night and we fully expected to wait longer than average for delivery. When I placed my order, I was told to expect the pizza in 40 minutes. We waited over an hour(with three hungry kids) before I called for an update. The girl who answered the phone asked me to wait while she checked on my pizza. She then put the phone down and I heard her ask about our order. I then heard a long conversation, some complaining, some laughing, and then I heard her say she«lost the lady asking about the order.» Someone else replied, «Oh, they’ll call back.» I did call back, many times, before finally getting through. I was told my order was out for delivery and it would arrive any minute. I told the girl how my previous call had been handled, and she was vaguely apologetic in a «sorry not sorry» kind of way. We kept waiting for our pizza, and after another 20 minutes my husband called. This time, whoever answered the phone simply said they were really busy and the pizza was on its way, no apology at all. In total, it took over an hour and half for our pizza to arrive. With the tip for the driver, we paid $ 50 for cold, soggy pizza. At no point did anyone from the restaurant make it seem like they really cared about our order or did they offer to compensate in any way for the lack of service or the long delay. We might go back to dine in on a weeknight, but it will be a while because I really am pretty disgusted with the way our order was handled. When we want delivery we will stick with our usual place. The pizza isn’t as good, but at least they’re reliable — even on Friday nights.

Grand Apizza USED to be in the East end of town when we moved here in 1994. We mourned the loss when they moved to Clinton. No – not really — as we continued to purchase their pies from the Clinton restaurant for 20 years ! Mike Nuzzo makes THEBESTPIES.(I am no relation to him — LOL) Sorry Mike, we may now be getting all our pies in Madison!!! We were thrilled to pick four up last weekend ! Same great menu and quality. I am so happy that our teens have a great pizza place right downtown!!! Best of luck to Grand Apizza Madison. Try their eggplant pies !! And it is always fun to head over to Clinton and grab a bunch of the tables and get a crowd of friends together. Love the interior of the new Madison location too.

Grand Apizza makes authentic New Haven style pizza. Fugetabout that other Madison pizzeria which shamelessly uses New Haven in its name and fugetabout that pizzeria on the East River which claims it makes New Haven style pizza. They are phonies. Grand Apizza is the real deal. That’s right. The Nuzzo family has been pumping out pizzas for over 59 years, long before the word apizza became trendy and at a time when Italian Americans actually lived in the city of New Haven. Fred Nuzzo founded the original Grand Apizza on Grand Avenue in Fair Haven and eventually his sons carried on the tradition to Clinton, Cheshire, North Haven, and even Scottsdale Arizonia. Now Grand Apizza comes to Madison. However, if you’re a true local then you know this is not the first time Grand Apizza has set foot in Madison. Yes Grand Apizza once had a branch directly across Route 1 from Hammonasset. I used to go there as a kid when my family camped at Hammo. This Grand Apizza took over the former site of the Village Pizza. Village Pizza made truly shitty pizza so Grand Apizza’s arrival was like a Godsend. And apparently the town agrees. For instance when Village Pizza was in town you’d be lucky to see any customers inside it. Just recently when I picked up my pizza at Grand Apizza, every seat was occupied and the ovens were running at full capacity. It’s like night and day. As you might have already guessed I’m a really big fan of Grand Apizza. All their branches make excellent pizza(FYI the original one on Grand Avenue no longer remains in the Nuzzo family). Most people know New Haven style pizza to be charred, but it’s slightly more complicated than that. It is also oily, thin, soupy, salty, and both crispy and chewy at the same time. Not surprisingly this Grand Apizza hits all these points and their pizza reminds me of the Grand Apizza I grew up with. I like it. I like it a lot…
