This past summer, I stopped in with a friend for a treat. It was very hot this day. The staff asked us if we wanted to sample anything so we tried a few of the ice cream flavors and both were completely sold on the Apple pie ice cream. We got cones and tipped them upside down in a cup and ate with spoons because there’s no way we could’ve kept up with the sun melting our prized treat. They were cooling and absolutely delicious.
The fudge, huge caramel apples and other sweets being sold looked picture perfect yet the smell of so much sugar sent my head whittling like when you’re 6 and try to eat all your Halloween candy in one sitting.
I’d love to try one of the apples if they could cut it in pieces for me. Maybe I’ll ask sometime.
Staff is always polite and full of information.
Great spot for treats… Just walk by and you’ll be like that cartoon who picks up the scent of something good and is following his nose almost floating to the source.

One of my all time favorite ice cream shops. They are always really consistent from state to state. The waffle cones are so good and made in house. Give this places a try, trust me.

I love this place because they make their chocolates on site. You can order a caramel apple and they’ll offer to cut it up for you so you can eat it on the go.

This gourmet shop is bursting with cuteness the minute you walk in!
We primarily came here for the fudge based on recommendations from friends local to the area. We sampled the salted caramel and double dark chocolate fudge then purchased both. They just melt in your mouth!
The caramel apples were also delicious and they cut them for you so it’s easy to eat and share.
I highly recommend picking up treats for yourself when visiting this cute shop. You won’t be disappointed!

My Fudgie brownie ice cream was incredible and my mom loved the salted caramel. As we walked back to the hotel a couple stopped us asking where we had gotten our ice cream and we were so enthusiastic we literally stopped in the middle of Johnson St. to point them in the direction of Kilwins. Highly recommend!

They have a great variety of ice cream, generous scoops. We also bought some candies for a gift to relatives watching our dog back at home. Everything was delicious!

I found Kilwins randomly while exploring the outlets along State street in search of something sweet. I was set on having ice cream, but I must say, their fudge is also delicious! The staff was extremely friendly and allowed me to taste their coconut fudge as well as their chocolate walnut fudge. If I ever go back, I’ll be sure to get a few slices of it!
I ordered a cup of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and wasn’t thrilled with it. I found it to have a coffee taste to it and hardly any cookie dough bits which ruined it for me.
Stick to the fudge.

GREAT ice cream! The store caught our eye as we were walking down State street. We got one scoop of the marshmallow s’mores and one scoop of the turtle cheesecake– both were delicious!
They also have a wide assortment of their own popcorn, chocolates, and toppings, however we did not purchase. They looked great though! Great vibes in the store.
Nice sidewalk seating area, located in the heart of State street. Prices were fair, considering we were in a downtown area eating small business ice cream. Great place to get some great ice cream!

Love that I don’t have to travel to Lake Geneva for a Kilwin’s treat.
Live their Kilwin tracks and Mackinac Island fudge. They are generous with their ice cream scoops. I usually get the one scoop of half and half, on a sugar cone in a dish. Trust me, you get a lot more for your money this way!

Passed by this shop while in line for The Orpheum and had to go in the next day cuz of the fudge and caramel apples in the window. Very nice shop, modern, nicely displayed products. we purchased their fudge with the buy 2 slices and get one free… turtle, salted caramel and chocolate peanut butter. the salted caramel is DIVINE and the chocolate peanut butter melts in my mouth… not too sure about the turtle, wish there was more nuts or a ribbon of caramel inside of it. Will definitely go back to try those caramel apples tho!

I love this place! Good thing I do not live closer or I would be there more. I really have only tried two things since I like them so much, but need to branch out and try more. I always get fudge — Salted Caramel to be exact. They put it in a little box with a small plastic knife so you it is convenient for you to eat. It is really great fudge. The other item I get are some pre-​packaged, dark chocolate covered salted caramels. I wish they sold these individually, since there are six in a box and then I have to eat them all! The people that work there are always friendly and nice. Can’t seem to go downtown without stopping here. Try it.

I ended up coming here twice in one weekend: once for the ice cream and once for the fudge.
The ice cream flavors are good. My friends loved the Blue Moon, while I stuck with my favorite, Peppermint. The peppermint pieces in the ice cream were SO good.
The cases are filled with all sorts of goodies, I wanted to try them all but we were running short on time.
I also bought some fudge. I’ve only bought fudge once before, but it seemed pretty pricey ($ 18 per pound, which comes out to 2 slices of fudge). They do have a buy 2, get 1 free special going on, though, which made it sting a little less. I ended up with Double Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Walnut, and Cookies and Cream. All were good, but almost too sweet.
Service was good, the guy behind the fudge counter let me try a flavor multiple times before making a selection!

Great place to get anything for your sweet tooth– especially when seeing a show at the Overture center.

It’s a place to fulfill your inner Willy Wonka!

I’ve only had the Rice Krispie covered in caramel and chocolate, but it was soooo good! Amazing caramel! Wish I lived here so I could try EVERYTHING.
Update: my first trip was so good that I went back TWICE over the next two days. I got the marshmallow covered in caramel and chocolate, and it was diviiiiiiine! I also got some maple walnut fudge and the original turtle fudge to take home, and they are both delicious! I wish I had gotten a pound of each because they’re nearly gone already!
A must-​stop place for anyone with even the slightest sweet tooth.

This was my first stop in Madison when I went to the Wiscon convention in May. I was drawn into the store because of the caramel apples in the window. I live in New Orleans, and we don’t have them in our candy stores, but I grew up in Michigan, and the caramel apple I bought brought me back to my childhood.
I thought the caramel apple was a little pricey, but I have no idea how much they normally cost, and in the end it was worth it. I sat at a table outside and enjoyed the heck out of that thing.
Overall, it was the service that rates a five-​star review. The staff was super friendly, and they were troopers at providing me with an iced tea, even though it wasn’t on the menu.

This place is a little gem. I have been going regularly since they first open a couple years back. It is always convenient to stop by from the walk back to campus from the square, or vice versa. And no, there is no way you will miss this place even if you have no clue where on State it is located. As you near the Square, their rich aroma of chocolates and caramel sugar will lead your way in no time.
They have every type and combination of candy you can possibly be craving for. And their chocolate comes in every size (think huge easter bunny chocolates, and I mean huge). I like their truffles, especially malt, hazelnut and coffee. Usually I am not a coffee fan but with truffles it is a different story altogether. Oreo barks are another of my favorites — rich creamy white chocolate with oreo crumbles evenly mixed in.
There is no way you will miss their huge range of apples. There is an entire shelf of them the moment you walk in, and they come in so many different colors and varieties. Being the traditional me the classic caramel apples are still my fav. When you walk all the way to the end of the store you will be greeted by the ice cream bar with over 15 flavors of ice-​cream. They are very generous with the samples, ensuring you get what you love.
I cut a star because I find their fudge is way too sweet for me. And I could sense that the moment I tried a sample piece, which is just a bite-​size piece to try before you buy. That is just me though, if you have a sweet tooth, the fudge might be for you.
One thing I really like is that Kilwins does not set a minimum weight limit on your purchase. Which means you can get as much or as little of candy. This is great cos on certain days, if you just feel like having a bite of peppermint bark, or one chocolate truffle, you can always stop in and feel every bit welcome.

Oh so yummy. Always have to get me a peanut butter drop when I go. The staff is always friendly. Wish the prices were lower so I could treat the kids more often but I guess it’s probably a good thing for my waist line that it isn’t.

The window is your first taste of fudge, nuts and chocolate. As you pass the giant marble table right up front they were cooking a batch of white fudge, the smell was delicious. The long narrow store welcomes you with a long counter on caramel apples, turtles, chocolate covered everything and then eventually ice cream.
We tried the ice cream– cinnamon cake swirl and pumpkin pie. Tasty, but not amazing. My 5 year old agreed… next time we’ll probably stick to the chocolate or fudge. Best part was seeing them pour out the giant cauldron of fudge on the table.

I come for the ice cream. I end up buying half the store.
Okay. So KIlwins has nailed the art of enticing people into the shop. I bet half of their customers had no intention of stopping for dessert until they were lucky enough to peer into the glass windows that face out onto State St and expose tray upon tray of freshly dipped and decorated caramel apples and just-​crafted chocolates. That’s not to mention the ethereal smell of caramel and sugary goodness that wafts itself out onto the sidewalk and connivingly begs you to enter the shop. Wow.
Now the caramel apples they serve up are anything but ordinary. I’ve seen glorious flavors such as a sea salted caramel… apple pie… peanut caramel… uh, one of each please.
And aside from the always wonderful chocolates, toffees, and fudges, Kilwins has some mighty fine ice cream. I am admittedly hooked on the Cinnamon Crumb Cake. When you combine hefty doses of both cream and cinnamon and then intersperse crumb cake pieces throughout, you’ve got a cup of something resembling ice cream, but tasting much more like the best cinnamon roll ever. So preposterously good.

So far, so good. Kilwins opened up about a month ago and I just got to check it out after walking by it a few times.
First off, it smells delicious which you would expect from a place with so much fudge, candied apples and truffles.
What caught my attention was the marzipans which even though no one can understand why, is really my favorite thing ever (alongside with coffee, lemon and sparkling water). The marzipan was not bad, European style, and only 95 cents a piece. I also tried a lot of their fudges and they were great although I’m not a fudge connoisseur. The truffles were good too. They also have ice cream which I didn’t try, but for ice cream I would really just walk down to Chocolate Shoppe.
