How can you beat $ 1 «mystery» beers that sit in a cooler or $ 2 taps of High Life? Don’t have to be a veteran to enjoy. Simple. Fun. And a great band plays from time to time*(Disclaimer: My dating of the lead singer has nothing to do with my opinion they are great!)

When my friend, who lives on E Lakeside, told me we were going to hit up the VFW for drinks, I giggled. Then we walked over there and I realized she wasn’t kidding. Fun fact: VFW Post 1318 is open to the public. Even more fun fact: the drinks are strong and cheap. Our group of four brought the total number of people in the bar to 8(including the bartenders) and no one there tried to hide how shocked they were to see our fresh faces. I think they were thrilled to have us there though because one of the bartenders gave us free shots of Cow Pie Liqueur… or maybe they were trying to get rid of us? Either way, we stayed and sang away to the skipping jukebox. Apparently a new, «digital» jukebox is in their near future. On our calendars now are the meat raffle and karaōke nights they put on once a month. I may or may not have promised one of the regulars I’d duet with her at said karaōke night. We’re probably going to go on tour. Great service, far from judgmental atmosphere, a fryer that fries like a champ; God bless America.
