One star as YMCA Madison, NJ choose to profit from hurricane Sandy by refusing to allow make-ups or issue credit for the many classes YMCA Madison cancelled during the hurricane and clean-up. The reason they give is that they are not responsible for the hurricane. But by keeping students’ money and not allowing make-ups for classes they cancelled, they are making money off the crisis and holding students responsible for the hurricane. Other YMCA organizations have allowed make-ups for cancelled classes during hurricane Sandy and clean-up, except YMCA Madison, NJ. Yet, YMCA Madison states their mission statement is «The Madison Area YMCA, part of a worldwide association based on Christian principles, inclusive of all people, provides quality programs that develop a healthy spirit, mind and body, and promote the core values of caring, honesty, responsibility and respect.» YMCA Madison collects donations for victims of hurricane Sandy, yet at the same time, they choose to make money and profit from the hurricane and clean-up. What hypocrisy!

The YMCA Madison is a quality, convenient gym that recently had its main workout room renovated. Machines are plentiful and I’ve never had to wait to workout, which is a welcome change in comparison to NYC gyms. I can’t speak about the other amenities(pool, classes, etc) because I haven’t really taken advantage of them yet. The monthly fee of $ 75 is slightly high, however, for a gym in suburban jersey so I’m docking 1 star for that.

They renovated portions of the gym and it looks modern and clean with state of the art equipment. Overall, great for kids for what you pay. The open play at their indoor playground is fun. Too bad we can’t go in while babysitting services are in session. Price: Monthly $ 22 for kids age 11 and under. Family $ 98 monthly. Lockers for the swimming area could be improved… looks like your old high school lockers. It’s hit or miss on the swim instructors. Parking: Busy on Saturday mornings but large enough parking lot. Like how the cars are parked angled so you can pull out easily. Registration: Thank goodness they have online registration! Just a few years ago, it’s been the line up, show your face, registration. Ick! Extras: Like how they offer free breakfast at times and the kids’ tea parties on Sundays.
