Went for lunch, seemed like a good bar to watch a game at, had onion soup, pretty good, I also had a Cobb salad, so so. Our server was slow and seemed to be overwhelmed, but there wasn’t many people there. Several pieces of the silverware were called with old food, big turn off. I dig the drinks being in Mason Jars. I would go back for drinks and try some bar fare.

About 20 people from my old job met there this past Friday night for a reunion. The women organizing this were told they had a space that woudl fit everyone in the back and there were no additional changes for the space just wanted to know if everyone would be ordering dinner. So just about everyone ordered dinner and several drinks during the few hours we were there. When we got our bills we were told they added gratuity everyone thought ok «20%» maybe for a big group NO it was $ 10 per person and most people like myself and the 2 people I sat with had about about a $ 13 meal so our bill went from $ 45 to $ 75. So many of us gave them almost a 100% tip and the one gentleman who did not eat was also charged $ 10. This should have been explained prior to ordering or even when making the reservation. At the very least I hope the wait staff received some of this money because clearly no one was tipping more. I will never go here again and I will continue to tell everyone I know about this underhanded practice they have. So disappointing.

We’ve been in a few times since my last review. Service has always been great and the burnt ends platter is still the best thing on the menu. Used Mason Jar’s catering service a few weeks back and placing the order was easy and thankfully they were able to accommodate a last minute order.

Been coming here for many years and it continues a download slide. First and foremost, don’t even think about the pizza here. It used to be one of first wood fired pizzas in the area but now it’s plain God-awful. Seems like frozen pizza warmed up. Crust right of Shop Rite freezer section. Blame, pale, white and like cardboard. I’ve had burgers here and they are ok. BBQ used to be great but not tastes industrial fast– food. Bar is nice. Good beer selections. It just amazes me in an affluent area like this restaurants continue to exist which such poor quality food and dated menus.

The place is always packed and for good reason. The food is very good and drink prices are, too. Bar and waitstaff are pleasant and accommodating. Live entertainment after dinner. Can’t go wrong, one of my favorite NNJ bars.

I come to the Mason Jar on occasion, usually for the live music on the weekends, and I’ve always had good experiences! I typically get the pulled pork platter or the balsamic chicken dinner. I’ve also come here for brunch, and I thought it was fantastic. They had a very good selection of food for brunch. It is a casual place, but definitely a little more than a diner. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the waiting staff is a hit or miss… When I went a few weeks ago, I was not impressed with my waitress, but when I went last night, the waitress was fantastic! Overall, I would recommend the Mason Jar, and I look forward to my next visit!

I’ve been here a few times and I’m never impressed. The latest visit was this past Saturday night to hear some live music and have a casual dinner. First, the band was great, whoever they were! Second, we sat in a booth in the bar area and were practically crowded out by the drunks standing around trying to pick up dates. If you are over 55, white and wear mom jeans or brown loafers with a leather blazer, this is the place for you. Never have I seen so many drunk moms and dads, divorcees and retirees lol. Third, the food. I had the veggie burger with the three-bean salad. I have no idea how they justify charging $ 10+ for a FROZEN veggie patty and honey mustard, but who knows. It was mediocre and not worth it. The three bean salad was good but not filling. I would have gotten some sort of substitute but they have practically none and the aide orders are $ 4.99! My server steered me away from the pricey sides. My date got the cheese steak and he couldn’t even eat half. Overall, not worth the food, the prices or the crowd. Unless you are single, older and ready to mingle. The one plus was the people-watching. Was like watching my drunk parents try to gyrate on each other awkwardly while losing their balance and sloshing their beer.

My family has been going to the mason jar for around 15 years. It has changed ownership a few times, but the menu and food have stayed pretty consistent. Great bar/pub snacks and meals with a wide drink selection at the bar. Some favorites are nachos, chili, a burger, or the roast beef sandwich!

Went for brunch, when they say 10:30 they mean 10:30… so we were the first on in the door, and I guess it was a tough Friday night, as some of the wait staff had their heads down on the railing(resting). This is our first time here for brunch, and it was a really nice spread of food, and desserts. There was an incredible amount of fish, both smoked and poached, and each was equally as good as the next. Sampling all the different dishes is hard to do without over stuffing your belly. What I did have, was great, and the kids said the pasta made to order was delicious. The room we were in was very far in the back, and I am glad we ate early, and were leaving when the staff put all the families with little children around us. We love kids, but all at once was… loud. We will come back, because there are some things I did not get to try.

We needed a restaurant close to Ramapo College. MJ’s brunch was pretty good for what you pay, $ 25. Since we arrived later much of the food was not being replaced and not as appetizing as it could have been. Even the dessert table was not updated. Not a bad place.

My son and I went in for lunch on Saturday. Bad inattentive service and low quality. This place has hit the wall. Time to rebrand or close it down.

My wife and I decided to try the Mason Jar after reading some of the reviews, and I know you can’t make everyone happy… We were staying in the hotel next door for a nightly staycation… The place was ehhh, nothing special and there’s no reason to come back as TGI Friday’s or Chili’s is just as good, and closer… Food was ok at best. my wife’s French onion soup was very bland and pretty tasteless. My burger was ok. Cooked to order, but where was the fixin’s? No L/T/O or pickles? Weird, I thought all burgers come with that, if not requested not to be. But what really took us was the $ 9.79 for«3 halves» potato skins appetizer. Pretty expensive for 1 and a half potatoes, some cheese and bits of bacon. Now, our server Frazz, was very attentive and polite. Great service. I had refills on the table before I was done with my prior drink… and something that I rarely see or get, is a fresh lemon wedge in refills of Iced tea… you usually get the same glass and used/squeezed lemon wedge still in the glass. 15 Sep update: Frazz was a guy and I’m not sure saying anything to «him» would have helped my 3 halves of tater skins and I wasn’t looking for a free app. Help me and others now… Lower the price or double the amount of skins you give. Potatoes aren’t that expensive… And L/T/O and pickles should always accompany your burger… You shouldn’t have to ask for them.

Great food. Great drinks. I had the BBQ chicken sandwich. Loved it. I went with a group of five and we all got something different. Everyone loved their meals. Perfect after a long hike at ramapo reservation. Definitely coming back here. Would recommend stopping in if you’re in the area.

I again went here a couple weeks ago: Ribs were burned, waitress was rude and took quite a while with refills, hostess a little snotty to boot. Not my first subpar experience here, but it will be my last. A few years ago, we had my son’s baptism party in the back room. Paid a good amount per head, plus alcohol, yet we were not allowed to take home any leftover food, though we had several no shows.

Preface: bill confusion handling I just paid 19,50 for a Goose martini. WAIT don’t freak out. I knew everything was computerized and by approachong a server, Ryan to be sure,(We ARE in fancy Ramapo you know,) he checked and found a more reasonable price. I asked co-owner Ira his thoughts and he, along with Christine(bartender/doctor)discovered I paid for anothers party a round. Christine came right to me and ironed things out like a misunderstanding between friends. This is easily a comfort stop between my lifes often rough reality. Epilogue: Food, spirits and distraction.

With most of these style restaurants, tend to do a great job with alcohol but when it comes to food, they lack good stuff. MJ is no different. We went with a group of 8. If you want bar food, this is a good place. Deep fried everything. Lower quality steaks. So/so service. All of the meals came out at different times. Burgers were over done. Beers were warm. I get this place is a staple in the area but seriously, venture out of the area! I can see it being a great spot of HH or a drink. Not on my agenda to return. Food is less than mediocre. Sorry for the bad review but overhyped.

Gave this place another try — UGH Again GREAT bar scene. STRONG drinks! Service is always amazing and I ALWAYS see the owner walking around talking to patrons. Place has everything going for it BUT Food is always a disappointment! I read the description for a special — slow cooked brisket over pappardelle. Sounded amazing. I pictured bits of brisket(cooked so long in flavorful juices till it fell apart) strewn over pasta. What I received was 5 thick slices of firm brisket over pappardelle with a beefaroni tasting sauce over the pasta. It was awful. Only had a few bites. Kudos to whomever writes their menu descriptions. My bf had the salmon burger and loved it. He actually wouldn’t even offer me a bite. Just a burger next time for me!

Haven’t been here in a while so the bf and I along with another couple came here Saturday night it wasn’t crowded at all which I wasn’t expecting and we were seated rite away. We ordered a few beers and waters and looked over the menu. We decided on mild wings for the table that were served with blue cheese dressing and the usual celery stalks, I ordered an onion soup, and a 3 cheese pizza for the table. The wings were good not the best not the worst I’ve ever had but the flavor was very tasty and enjoyable. Onion soup was the same as the wings not the best not the worst. The pizza is always my favorite part of the meal here. Crispy crust with just the right amount of seasoning to it, this pie was extra cheesy and I loved it. I believe the three cheeses were provolone, muenster, and parmesan topped with oregano. If your looking to try they’re pizza go for the mason jar three cheese I can’t see anyone being disappointed. For dinner Lauren and I ordered the crab cake sliders(sorry no picture I was hungry) they were served on «Hawaiian buns»(liars they weren’t) and a choice of a side I chose sweet potato fries which were crisp and perfect. The crab cakes were just ok nothing to write home about but i was surprised to find it was real crab and not imitation.(note to self never order seafood at a BBQ place). My boyfriend ordered a cheese steak with the cajun fries which were delicious and crispy. My friend Barry ordered a french dip which looked pretty awesome tender roast beef stacked high and served with au jus for dipping and cajun fries as well. Def gonna have to get that for myself next time. Now the show stopper was dessert. I live for this cheesecake in a jar. I always get strawberry well because that what I love(you can get blueberry as well) I also only eat half so I can eat it in bed like a big fat fatty later on. It’s served in a mason jar and it’s a layer of cheesecake then gram-crackers and topped with your fruit of choice and whipped cream. If you don’t finish it they give you a lid to take it home. Free mason jar SCORE!
