The Silly Grape

Awesome place, awesome atmosphere. Cesar is the owner and is always here. We come here for office happy hours and if I lived closer I would come for regular happy hours. The food and service is fantastic and they remember your name. Total Cheers place!

This place is so hidden it’s easy to forget it’s there sometimes. I used to work next to the RDV and didn’t even know it was there until a friend invited me to see some stand up comedians there. We both agreed that the comedy acts weren’t so great, but I can’t really blame that on the bar. It was a nice atmosphere to do something different and the staff was nice so I can’t complain. The location is unfortunate but at the same time it’s nice to have a place to go that’s tucked away from the regular overcrowded weekend spots. Worth a try!

Simple menu with really fair pricing. The owner is always friendly and my dog is welcomed in the outside dining area. My faves are the raspberry walnut salad and meatball flatbread. The salad portions are HUGE. I always get one knowing that I’ll have lunch for the next day. If you’re just going for a drink, I recommend getting the hummus.

I’ve been here twice and every time I’ve been in there been about 10 customers for lunch but the servers are running around like its 50 ppl there. The food is OK but I wish there were more options for the sides with the sandwiches. I wish they were more organized.

I came to Silly Grape for a lunch with coworkers. The location is down a back road surrounded by office buildings, so it is doubtful one would stumble into this place unless they work in the area.
The menu is very small. Appetizers, paninis, and flatbreads. Sometimes small menus are the best menus, but unfortunately this was not the case. I ordered the California club panini. It was served with a large side salad (lettuce, onion, tomato), but the panini was so basic. Small, not much flavor.
The service was not great either. Although the restaurant was relatively empty, our table did not receive much service at all.
They seemed to have a large bar and the food on their menu was more suited for happy hour, rather than lunch. Perhaps I’ll come back for a drink after work to give it another try, but I didn’t leave wanting to recommend to friends and definitely won’t be back at lunchtime.

Ugh! This place has more useless staff than patrons. It’s within walking distance to our rental property and have tried it several times hoping for a miracle, but it always sucks!!! Wine is overpriced and food is gross. They play music so loud at night you’d think it was a hopping night spot. Nope just some lonely staff trying to stay awake.

This place is beautiful. The staff is friendly, the food is very good and I’ve had a really good time every time I’ve hung out here. Check it out!

This is a great place for a drink; beer or liquor. We had dinner here last night. All of the flatbreads are excellent and their salads are some of the best in town. Great atmosphere for lunch, drinks after work or dinner.

I have been to the Silly Grape for plenty of happy hours. They are located in the Maitland business district so its very easy to get to after work. I would definently recommend their happy hour 2−4−1. The appetizers are really good. I recommend the shrimp flat bread. The wine selection is a bit small but I’m never dissapointed with the options… or the pour! The only reason I minus a star is that there are only two restrooms! Had to sometimes sneek in the boys when its busy.

The nice thing about Silly Grape is they’re close to my office, they have a wide range of paninis, flatbreads, soups, salads and more. I like the selection of beer and wine (after work, not during). They offer buy one/​get one free wine and beer at happy hour from 4 — 7pm.
I’ve been here several times before and have found my favorite menu item is the Chicken Cordon Blue Panini. I always substitute the salad for a bowl of their split pea soup. I’m the weird kid that liked split pea when I was younger and have grown up to still enjoy a bowl with some toasted bread broken up in it. So when you’re trying it at Silly Grape, ask for a side cup of croutons to toss in.

Recently went to the Silly Grape on a Friday night and found the food was typical of a sports bar. Beer was served in plastic cups and not very cold. The band was very good, but due to the small size of this restaurant, it made conversation impossible while they played.
Two major issues warrant this rating: 1) Apparently there’s a practice of holding onto your credit card for payment at the beginning of your dining experience. Unfortunately I forgot to ask for my card back after someone else paid for our dinner. I attempted to call the restaurant the next day on Saturday. 2) Zero Customer Service on follow-​up. Apparently the Silly Grape is closed on Saturdays and Sundays (odd for a restaurant), I left messages and sent an email and as of this writing, have not had any contact from anyone from the Silly Grape.
Simply put — there are too many other restaurants in the Orlando/​Maitland area that do practice good business to give the Grape another Silly chance

We always enjoy ourselves here! Good food, reasonable prices and nice people. What more could you ask for.

Met a friend here during lunchtime. Place was pretty dead and we had nice service. I could image how hopping this place could get during a happy hour.
I had the Kale Soup which was very yummy and a flatbread.
I would definitely come back to experience live music and what looks like a great selection of wine and beers.
The others dining had yummy looking appetizers so I’m anxious to try some new things.

I was invited here for a going away party for a co worker… plus I live totally on the west side of Orlando… so this is not someplace i would have gone to on my own. it seemed to be located in a business district and they cater to them for after work beers and cocktails. It has a very temporary feel to it… and by this I mean I can see the ceiling of the building and the walls inside only go up so far. Like a movie set… and they could pack it all up and move out over night.
When I got there for this party, my co workers were all there (about 10 or so) and there was only one server who was helping us. I will say he was very nice and helpful but the drinks we ordered did take longer than i expected. Most of us were drinking wine so I am not sure why it took 15 min to bring out two glasses of wine. I was not hungry so i did not order food but many of my friends did. I saw flat breads, some sandwiches and a salad or two. Everyone said it was good and many did not finish what they ordered so everyone did ‘pick’ off of others plates. I got to try a flat bread pizza… meh…
it was not busy… maybe 7 other people in the place so I was not sure why the service was slow. I only saw our server and another person behind the bar… now and then. I don’t remember any music but I do remember a few TVs with sports on it… but nobody was watching it. I fear this owner is losing more money than they are making.

There are much better places right near my home so I would not come here again unless it was for another work related gathering.

Love this place! Silly Grape is the near-​perfect combination of everything I look for in a restaurant/​bar: Good food. Good wine. Great service. Open late on weekdays.
I usually order the Tomato & Mozzarella flatbread or the Pepperjack Chicken sandwich (not sure if that’s what it’s actually called, but it’s great!) Portions are always generous, and come with a salad. I was sold on this place when I saw that they serve Portuguese Kale soup. I have never had or seen this soup anywhere but in my grandmother’s own kitchen until I came to Silly Grape.
I love the the owner, Caesar, knows my name and even at 10:00 p.m., five minutes before closing, I’m greeted with a smile and they know my order.
Although the house wine is pricy in comparison to other local establishments, their liquor drinks are well worth price. Higher prices keep the riff raff out and that’s okay with me.

I’ve been here a few times for lunch and happy hour with colleagues since it’s across the street from where we work. The service tends to be hit-​or-​miss, depending on how busy they are. For lunch i’ve tried a couple of paninis and they were decent, not great, but not bad either. The portions have gotten smaller since the first time I visited, but I think it’s better because they gave too much before. I do find the salad underwhelming. I hate when restaurants use iceberg lettuce — at least use romaine. It just comes across as cheap.
For happy hour, they don’t have the greatest selection of beers, but they are two for one, so can’t complain too much. Service gets a little spotty the busier it gets.
I’ll probably return if a co-​worker wants to grab a drink after work, but it’s not my first choice for lunch.

I went here with coworkers for happy hour back in December, and this establishment has since become infamous in our office.
Long story short, The Silly Grape could more aptly be named The Multiple Personality Grape, The Midlife Crisis Grape, The Confused Grape, The Drunk Grape… anything to convey the identity crisis this establishment seems to have.
The good:
There’s not much in the area, so anything is better than nothing.
The outdoor seating area looked like it could be a nice place to relax. They have long tables for seating large parties. The space itself was a good-​size, which could work to their advantage.
The «eh»:
Our waiter/​bartender wasn’t particularly friendly. Flirty? A bit too much to the point that I felt embarrassed for a couple of my coworkers.
The live music wasn’t bad, just a bit odd.
The décor felt like a mash-​up of a downtown hipster bar, a sports bar, and a wine lounge. I’m all for diversity, but the ambiance was past the point of making any sense. (I went around Christmas time, so maybe the décor is different now.)
The food. It was okay, but seemed overpriced for what it was. $ 8 for chips and salsa during happy hour? They had lots of paninis, salads, and more «wine friendly» apps, but there were no burgers, nothing fatty to soak up alcohol, and certainly no bar food. There weren’t even french fries. This really didn’t jive with the «sports bar» feel that it was pushing. While the chips and salsa and paninis were alright, they were overpriced for what you got.
The bad:
The drinks were bad. One of their specialties is the «Sex in Maitland.» First off, it was super weak, sour, and a bit astringent. Second, why Maitland? I mean, if you’re going to do a «Sex in…» drink, why not make it exciting? «Sex on the Maitland Boulevard Overpass» sounds much more dangerous while being just as awkward.
Another bad drink was the «sangria.» We learned they don’t have sangria, but the bartender/​server said he could make some. He proceeded to stir sugar into a glass of wine, fill it with ice, and then stick a couple lemon slices into the drink. I get that he didn’t know what sangria was and they didn’t have it, but stirring sugar into a glass of wine is not going to end well.
The wine list is very small for a place trying to be a wine bar (or wine-​oriented venue). Italian wines were heavily represented, which is great, but the list seemed very incomplete.
The service was super, super slow. The person himself was fine, but the slowness was really unnecessary.
Overall the experience was just really negative. Maybe it’s different to go during lunch or on the weekend, but I certainly won’t be returning. Maybe I’d return if they gave Restaurant: Impossible a call.

I live right next to the Silly Grapes and i’ve been wanting to try it for a while. I think management has read the previous postings because our service was great. The server greeted us right away, asked whether his was our first time, went over the menu, recommended some items, and was very attentive throughout our dinner. So, I give service an A+.
Décor…well, it took me by surprise. I was expecting a basic bar décor but they actually did a great job renovating this place. It has a sophisticated bar décor… where you car order a martini or a beer. The bar, tables, chairs, and floors were very clean.
The food was ok. The portions are huge. I had the chipotle chicken flatbread. They put a bit too much cheese on my flatbread but is not like they skimped out on the chicken. The side salad that you get was huge. My boyfriend had the cuban panini and he got a huge thing loaded with ham and pork. So the portion sizes are good (more than enough to take home and have for lunch the next day). I think they could improve on the flavors (a bit more seasoning).
I will definitely be back here. The service was good, the food was ok, and the atmosphere is great.

It has now been several days since my boyfriend and a friend joined me here for happy hour and I’m still pretty livid.
The Service:
It SUCKS. I’m not just talking about the server who immediately pushed us to sit at a table rather than the bar (who does that?), but the owner acted as though we were second class citizens. First, he too pushed us to sit at a table when we were already seated at the bar. I had to stop him in between his relentless tries so that I could even order a glass of wine. Next, the owner begins taking my friend’s order and then immediately switches gears and leaves her hanging for another customer. Honestly, I’m not sure why we bothered to stay after that bullshit.
The Food:
The food menu looks good, but unfortunately I did not partake. Why? Probably because we were told we had to order now (OMG RIGHT NOW! even) or the kitchen would not «have time for us» due to a group of 35 ordering food as well. Really? Please don’t tell me when to order and definitely don’t tell me you won’t have time for me. Pretty sure our money is just as good as the group you preferred.
Décor and Ambiance:
I guess it was okay. Lots of domestic beer signs, which were a bit overpowering. The music went from non-​existent to downtown bar around 1AM loud in a matter of moments. The seating was pretty plentiful, which is why we thought it odd to be forced to a table.
The Owner (Caesar):
Obviously does not care to have repeat customers. He also does not appear to be all that knowledgeable with his own wine list, which is not very extensive or impressive for a bar with «grape» in the name. He came across as very arrogant and rude.
Added Bonus:
Thinking of coming in during happy hour and using a gift certificate from
Think again! First, the server told us that they would not honor the «two for one» happy hour price when using a coupon. After pointing out that it did not say that ANYWHERE on the gift certificate, the server then told us he would not take the gift certificate at all! This was, of course, after he spoke to the owner and relayed that information back to us. The owner watched all of this go down and I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen anyone give less of a fuck.
Not only will I never be back, I will also continue to spread the word about how awful this establishment is.

Came to this place only because the pizza place next door was sweltering hot inside. So glad we did! It was empty when we went in for lunch, my guess is because no one really knows it’s open yet.
They serve appetizers, flat bread, and paninis. Tried the Chicken and pepper jack panini (yum), it came with a huge salad all for $ 9.00. The raspberry walnut dressing for the salad was so sweet, I wanted to pour it on ice cream.
They have multiple TVs and a huge bar. I love the décor, it’s very comfortable in there.
They have an offer that if you order 4 items off the menu you get a free bottle of wine. Unfortunately I was on my lunch break so no wine for me. I would definitely go back for lunch and will try hitting this place up to unwind after work.
