First time visit on a Friday night. Bad weather and still a pretty good crowd means great food! We didn’t have to wait, and there were a few other open tables. Joan quickly greeted us and offered drinks and specials. We got the chicken primavera and steak tip/sausage combo. It started with great fresh bread and crisp salads. My combo came with pasta choice– and I chose the homemade fusilli. The sauce and pasta were delicious as well. We saw many other dishes served around us that looked amazing. Hope to go back soon and hope that we can be Joan’s guest again.

Excellent food. We were in love with the calamari. Need hook either on back of door or on wall in women’s bathroom. I was a little annoyed to have to hold my coat and purse while I used the bathroom. There needs to be a place to hang things!

Definitely a hidden gem in Malden. The area is not the best(it’s across the street from the projects) but they definitely make up for it with their quality. The inside of the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired but they make their mark with their food. The portions are huge! We got an order of bruschetta 1/an app and it was 6 giant pieces of bread with fresh tomatoes(we got 2 meals just out of the app). We each got a pasta dish and the plates were huge. I got ziti with a side of meatballs and it comes with either a side salad or soup. I got 3 meals out of mine and my g/f got the carbonara and got 4 meals out of her plate. This is definitely a place that gets by on repeat customers. It doesn’t seem like they’re bringing in much new business but with the quality of their food I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cheap Italian dinner.

what we picked were some wrong choices, my husband had the mussels fra dravola when ordered the waitress did say it was hot but never offered another way to have it so he went for it and it was way toooo HOT and he likes hot food it shouldn’t of been so hot you couldn’t eat it, I had the chicken braccalitini and this was way to sweet very strong taste of something don’t know if it was the marsala sauce or the coating on the chicken that made it taste that way and the waitress showed that she didn’t want to be there it was about 8:30pm and overheard her say it was boring tonight. not a good night for all

Hands down the BEST Italian food on the North Shore. If you don’t want the hassle of going to The North End just go here. You won’t be disappointed. Food is authentic and portion are huge.

This is definitely a new favorite. Everything was sooo good and full of flavor. The waitress was a sweetheart and the owner, Jack was very friendly. I got the chicken braccalatini(chicken wrapped in capicola and mozzarella in Marsala sauce — YUM) and my fiancé got the steak sicIliano, both amazing dinners. The steak was especially delicious. The atmosphere at lunch was low key and very lovely, I recommend this place to everyone!

Atmosphere, Food and Staff are excellent. Wouldn’t change a thing. Quantity of food is huge to the point you have seconds. My favorite time of day is lunch. Try everything! You won’t regret it.

I have been here a few times with my friends and family and I have never had a bad meal here. I would not say its amazing but the sizes are decent and the food is mediocre. I have two dishes I like here… Cheese Ravioli — It is pretty good but for the price, they could add a few more raviolis to the dish. Sometimes, I add a protein like shrimp to make it a tad more filling. Would I reccomend Eggplant Parm — This is a big meal for a good price. You get a salad, a side of pasta with sauce and then the eggplant parm which is pretty big. It is VERY filling and I am always taking more than half of the meal home. SIDENOTE: Vegeterians please ask before hand for the meat free sauce. I asked them if this had meat on it and my wiatress gave me such an attitude. All in all, this place is nice for a quick nice Italian dinner. Give it a shot!

Constantly driving by this place en-route to somewhere else and decided one night to try it. It’s a local place and the prices are cheap and I would love to have liked it. The chicken parm 8⁄10 — pretty solid The mussels — 6⁄10 sauce was okay but they tasted a little more sea than I like from fresher seafood Steak Tips Salad — They are marinated in too sweat of a taste for my liking but were tender enough to eat. 7⁄10. The salad part was the typical iceburg lettuce, too much onion and etc. that you get in cheap dinners. Overall, it’s not a terrible place to go if you’re hungry and close by, however, I prefer my other place closer to home. The crowd is a little older townie type. Place is not too loud but not too quiet. The prices on the menu, were nothing like the prices we were charged. It didn’t really matter much cause the end result was the same(some things were like $ 1 more some were $ 1 less) and we just wanted to pay and were to lazy to mention since the end result was no different.

The one star is for the fact I can be there in 2 min from my house. I may not have a complaint here except they try to pass them off as an Italian place. The Italian food here SUCKS. Thank god I ordered a burger. My 2 friends each got I believe chicken parm. Oof what a disaster. Do yourself a favor and just drink at the bar.

The pork chops were very tough. We had both the grilled version and the«house special» with vinegar peppers and potato. Stay away from these dishes!

Two words: Chicken Francese. Yes, you can thank me later. The fact is, this is not a very common dish. When you do, on that rare occasion, find it on a menu… it’s never as good as it is done here. They don’t skimp on it either. You get two large breasts and broccoli. More than enough for two meals. They have a fan for life here, as long as this is always on the menu!!! Soooo good!

My boyfriend and I were in the mood for some good italian food. We were having a hard time trying to figure out where to go and his parents had recommended Jacks. It was only about 10 minutes from the house so we decided why not. We started with an appetizer and got the bruschetta. It was a delicious huge portion. We both only had a slice because we heard all the portions were huge and didn’t want to waste our appetite on an app. My boyfriend was hankering for chicken parm and that’s what he ordered and the piece of chicken was huge and cooked perfectly with a size of ziti. I had mussels Fra Diavlo that was overflowing with mussels and had the perfect amount of spice to it. It was more than delicious! We did order a dessert to go but we haven’t eaten it yet. We got cannolis which I can’t imagine are going to be short of delicious. And last but not least our waitress Marie. I have to give her a 10. She was fantastic. Attentive and very informative. She was a very kind girl. When we visit again, which I’m sure we will, we will be sure to request her. Also it was a pleasure to have the owner, Jack come over and see how our meal was.

If you are looking for good Italian food, stay away from here. We had seen this on a local television show showcasing great Italian food so we decided to visit. Upon arrival The restaurant was dark, empty and smelt of dirty rugs. We decided to give it a try because dive places are usually a hidden gem. We ordered appetizers which were mediocre and flavorless at best and don’t get me started with their salad that came out looking like someone threw it together in five seconds. Then the worst thing happened. Our meals came. I have been to numerous Italian restaurants and have cooked them with my family for years, the food at this establishment was bland and disgusting. It was like I was sitting in a hospital room having my lunch delivered to me. I unfortunately had to sit there and eat the chicken ziti and broccoli which was completely overcooked, tasteless and overpriced. It had to have been one of the worst things I had ever eaten. There was no taste and salt was not even saving it. Others at my table had food that was also tasteless, oily and disgusting. I don’t get off where all of these four star and five star reviews are coming from because nothing about this establishment is four stars. I sat there and pushed around the food and decided to take it to go, as not to embarrass the establishment when the bill came. Over $ 100 for four people to eat bland food that is not even comparable to the Olive Garden… If you’re looking for good home-cooked Italian food visit places like Rino’s in East Boston and Depalma’s and Winthrop. My dog wouldn’t even touch the leftovers…

Jacks is my dads FAVORITE restaurant, I eat there a lot. It is actually a great, small, family owned place. There food is reasonable and delish.

This time was for takeout. Beat after working all week and just wanted something good, quick, close-by to pick up while we watched a movie. I don’t know if there’s a new cook in the kitchen but the food was really good, better than ever. The place was packed, too, so people are noticing. Patti got chicken parm and I had chicken cacciatore. We both raved about our meals. Prices went up a little but for $ 30 feeding two people and with excellent quality, well lets just say you get what you pay for. Jack, Jack, we’ll be back!

I found this place one day well watching the Phantom Gourmet; they made the place look for the most part what it is. I tried this place with a friend of mine, we sat at the bar. I found it to be a very townie type of place, for the most part the people were nice, if you don’t mind the guy beside you telling you how he wants to clip his ex-wife, and the bar tender calling everyone sweetie and hunny and sugar plum every six seconds, serious sweet heart, only my wife calls me sweet heart. I thought the food was very good; they do a very good job. I did not get to meet the owner; he seemed like one of my Italian uncles, which is always good when you are eating at a family owned Italian restaurant. Everyone I talked to at the bar went on and on about how consistent the food is there. I also liked the fact that they seemed to take pride in having soups on the menu, the gentleman beside me was having meatball soup and it looked amazing. I would defiantly eat there again, just might not sit at the bar.

Liked that jacks was renovated when new owners took over, but over all being Italian myself i wasn’t impressed , It’s was ok we thought it was a little dark and not very crowed at all, We order eggplant it was ok, something was missing and a little dry but it was ok ‚ When the highlight is the salad and baked potato, and escrow soup I can get that any where !!! so disappointed this place was on a recommendation and wasn’t feeling it, prices were low $ 12 per plate . I guess I should have know when ppl did start to show up they were a bit older ! Not sure if cause it was prices were low or very bland food,(sorry) to say but I think I rather pay more and be wow-ed !!! The couple across from us were complaining about a dish not really sure what they got but know they weren’t happy either, probably won’t go back !!
