the not so young white guy was a complete dick. we walked in there to rent surfboards and i saw they had sunglasses, and i wanted to get it for my boyfriend. so i asked how much are they his answer was«expensive» so i asked again how much and he said the cheapest one is 60 so i said ill take it which one is it and he said its the one you dont want to scratch the type you shouldnt take to the beach or get wet. then he tells me theres a cvs down the street. so i said alright and just walked out. so we just rented the surfboards. anyways we were from out of town and he asked us if we ever surfed before and we said no and he didnt even bother telling us where a good spot is to surf so we went to zuma beach and they wouldnt let us surf anymore and when we called to tell him he talked to us like we were retarded and he was just pretty much disrespectful. id go here again just to shove a surfboard down his mouth. im just not very fond of rude ignorant people talking down to anyone. but hey, he prob just doesnt like asians lol.

The guy was very helpful and kind. We got to rent our boards and wetsuits for 24hrs at the same rate other places were charging per hour. Great deal! HIGHLYRECOMMEND!!!

Candace was incredibly helpful and friendly, we received a top of the line psycho wetsuit for out rental, and you can’t beat their prices for wax. About a buck per bar of sticky bumps. I will definitely continue dropping by!!!

Went in there looking for sandals and a Hawaiian shirt. Boom! Got out of there with exactly what I wanted for a very fair price from the wonderful blonde lady with piercing blue eyes who showed me the shirts and helped me on my way. La crème de Malibu!

I was on vacation and wanted to try boogie boarding for the first time. They set me up with just the right board and«booging» tips. Very unfortunately I had to leave early the next day before the shop opened at 10. I, while hoping for the best, left the board outside their door, praying it wouldn’t be stolen! I felt very bad when I received a phone call a few days later from Candace saying that she never received the board. I apologized profusely and she was very understanding knowing I was telling the truth. I was grateful she didn’t charge me for it. It felt good to be trusted and I would do business with them again for sure!

They do a good job here. Friendly, helpful staff. The owner(fomer Malibu mayor Jefferson Wagner) cracks me up. Every time he rings up an order, he says«and this percentage goes to our governor”(state tax). It’s hilarious. Keep on keeping on Zuma Jay.

«Zuma Jay»(the current mayor of Malibu) rocks. Great local surf shop. Used to live in Malibu and this place is the real deal. Excellent prices on boards, wetsuits, and t-shirts. I’ve bought a ton of the $ 10 shirts. Jeff and his wife are usually in the shop and are always so nice and helpful. I usually try and make it a point to stop by when I’m down there.

Went in here to buy a patch kit for my board. The guy(musta been Jay) was a condescending prick. Go here if you enjoy self important people talking down to you. I’m not going back.

Zuma Jay’s is the best for three reasons: 1. Low prices 2. Quality products, boards 3. Jay’s knowledgeable customer service. Has everything. I’m going to work there when I’m 14.

Best prices on O’Neill wetsuits and Body Glove wetsuits you will find in L.A. guaranteed. Jeff, the owner makes sure of that, It’s his thing… The surfboards are absolute trash. Don’t be a kook. If you want a good surf shop in Malibu go to Becker’s or Drill. If you want the best selection of O’Neill or Body Glove wetsuits at the best prices go to Zuma Jay’s. Tell him Carl sent you.

«Zuma» Jay — The current mayor of Malibu & connoisseur of all things wave. And I quote, «No bling here. Just the real thing.» I couldn’t have said it better myself. No clothes, no shoes, no crap. Just boards, wet suits, kayaks and all the associated accessories. Happy Surfing Haole!

I just called to ask about sea kayaking and the guy on the phone was seriously mentally challenged — I had to practically answer my own questions and his ability to get customers excited about Malibu was non-existent. Someone break out the paddles and resuscitate the life back into this place!

I was shopping for x-mas gifts for out of towners and scored Zuma Jay-Malibu, CA. t-shirts for $ 10, I’m stoked! Council Man Zuma Jay was giving an Antelope Valley couple the lo-down on local eateries, it was a nice touch and they were excited about chatting with the guy after reading the L.A. Times article on his history.

I haven’t found a better deal on beach kayak rentals elsewhere! $ 45 for a 2-person kayak for 24 hours! Such a great deal! Other places are around $ 20/hour. I don’t know about Zuma Jay, but his staff was pretty helpful. They set up the kayak with back supports and wheels. The kayaks, life vests and paddles were all very clean. The staff also pointed out a slightly hidden entrance to the beach that takes you to an area where there are very few people. The store has a lot of surfing items — clothes, boards, waxes, etc. I don’t know much about surfing so I can’t really recommend Zuma Jay as a place to go for surfers. The store is across the street from the beach on Pacific Coast Hwy(PCH) in Malibu. Sidenote: I saw 3 sealions(2 of them were very small and they were playing with each other!), jellyfish, a school of fish, and lots of large pelicans diving into the water for fish. I had an amazing time kayaking in Malibu!

this is a pretty good surf shop but i’ve recently learned that beneath his cool façade, zuma jay is a bit of a jerk. i think i’ll buy my sticks elsewhere.
