Very bad experience. It was our first time in Mammoth Mountain, so we didn’t know anywhere to rent. This place was the closest to our apartment. When we got there the staff was very rude over all. They where treating us as we never had skied before. When we suggested what we wanted for our skis, what type of boots, what type of skis we would like for what we enjoy. They answer was«no, you want this ski». Bad decision, we should have left right at that point but we didn’t. We where promised that if we didn’t like the rentals, or we wanted to try something different it would be as easy as stopping by and choosing an other equipment. Next day, fresh snow, we drop by, ask for a different equipment to enjoy the beautiful day that the mountain gave us. their answer«No, we don’t want people breaking our skis». If I break something, I can pay for it and assume my own risks. If you don’t know where to rent go to Footloose. My dad ended up renting there and the experience was great. Superb rental quality and very friendly staff. They even took the time to personalize his rental boot so that It didn’t hurt in one specific spot! Next time we know where to go.

Our family rented ski and snowboard equipment here for some recent spring skiing. By renting here, you’re getting excellent customer service, extreme ski knowledge, good equipment, and the best wax job in town. On the down side, even with the«Kid’s rent Free» deal, you’re going to pay about 10 – 30 percent more. Was it worth it? In the end, we decided yes it was. Yes it was indeed.

Our ski bases were extensively damaged by rocks during the low snow January period. We took them to Command Performance and they did a great job repairing the bases for $ 65 per ski. I don’t know if that is a reasonable price but we couldn’t be more pleased with the quality of work.

This small shop is located right across the street from my condo on Old Mammoth Road. They have a hot wax roller and offer free waxes(it’s customary to give a tip — the tip jar is near the cash register and helps buy dog food for the resident pit bull who sleeps on a cushion near the front window of the shop.) There is a small selection of gloves and ski equipment and they do ski rentals. Robin, the Australian store manager, usually has a football(aka soccer) game on the telly and provides local mountain gossip, occupancy rates, ski conditions, etc. He is quite helpful when it comes to ski equipment and will help you with various issues you may be having. I’m guessing he doesn’t specialize in snowboard equipment advice. For that, I would recommend Wave Rave on Main Street. I appreciate the free daily hot waxes and enjoy chatting with Robin in the mornings. Command Performance/Fast Ski is another example of a nice, down to earth Mammoth shop.

After spending a lot of time looking for comfortable yet snug boots at all the big rentals shops in Mammoth, I went to Command Performance, by the Chart House. Robin took a quick look at my feet and grabbed 2 pair of boots; one for racing, one for cruising. Both pair were comfortable and snug. Comfortable boots make all the difference in the world. 1st stop next trip: Command Performance. Thanks Robin.

Command Performance/Fast Ski is located in a small shopping mall and it is close to Volcano Sports and Good Life Café. I used the 20% off coupon in the Mammoth Coupons book to try this place out. I took my skis in for a wax and I thought that would be enough. The Australian guy that runs this place is very knowledgeable and knows what he is doing. He pointed out that my skiis needed a lot more work done. He did a really good job and I discovered that my skis’ perfomance was much better as a result. So, if you happy having your skis tuned and waxed by a chatty, funny, knowledgeable Australian, this place is for you. Look out for the huge dog that pads around this small store.
