5 stars for the tacos. Prolly best I’ve ever had, but it’s is absolutely freezing in here. By the time I got to the 3rd taco it was now longer warm/hot. But I highly recommend the steak taco. I ordered mine med well easy on the pico and Chs.

Have been coming to this Surf Taco since I was in middle school and my love for their food has not changed. Maverick burrito, teriyaki chicken taco, coconut shrimp taco(summer only) are all delicious. The hot salsa/sauce is my favorite and goes great with the chips, tacos and burritos. This location is pretty small but there is some outdoor seating to help as it usually gets crowded during the summer months. I must say at this point there isn’t much of the menu I haven’t tried and I never really had a bad meal here. Recently tried the garlic shrimp taco just to have something new and that was pretty good as well. Will be back hopefully soon. The bathrooms are really small and get a little dirty in the summer time because of the large crowds, could use a little more attention.

Every single time I walk into a Mexican joint, I look for something on the menu that resembles the Buffalo Soldier and no one seems to have it. I consider Surf Taco to be the reference standard of fast Mexican places. Their menu, while varied, is laid out in a very straight forward fashion, making selection fast and easy. Food is prepared to order and is fresh and delicious. I used to date someone from Manasquan. Under ordinary circumstances I would have given the relationship 2 dates before torpedoing it due to geographic undesirability. It persisted, however, for several months due in no small part to her proximity to Surf Taco. You see, sex and compatibility can go far sometimes but not as far as a really good burrito. In retrospect, she must have thought I was a cheapskate due, in no small part, to my affinity for Surf Taco. In reality, however, it was the food, not the price and certainly not the proximity that allowed the relationship to persist. Start heading north, my friends. We’re more than ready for you!

I’m not quite sure what happened to this place. Maybe they got too big and just aren’t able to handle the large staff. I get food from surf taco at least once a week and usually spend at least $ 50. The recipes are great! Every once in a while I will get a burrito with not-so-great chicken in it… But hey, I understand that happens. So great recipes, decent food, fair prices. Why the 1 star? Wellllllll… They have some major health violations in the Manasquan location. I was in there the other day to pick up a large order and saw the young girl(I guess the cook/manager) playing with her hair and itching her nose and then TOUCHSOMEONESFOOD without gloves! GROSS! I believe every food establishment should wear gloves when handling food! And then to touch your hair and nose and then touch someone’s food? That’s inexcusable! Best part is… When the girl saw me watching her she closed the curtain to the kitchen. This basically said to me– yes, we touch your food. Yes, we know it is a health code violation. No, we don’t care. No, we aren’t going to change. VERYDISAPPOINTED! Plus, the place was a mess, salsa all over the salsa bar, dirty dishes on the counter, etc. My only hope is to go to another surf taco location where maybe there is a different manager.

Really solid value at a go to destination in Manasquan. Often stop in for lunch every week and have had nothing but good experiences for past 5 years. The buffalo soldier and taco salad are must try’s.

Surf Taco is awesome. Great taco place with some really great options. I would recommend the tacos with the fried cod and making it Baja style. Their sauce bar is also really good. the baja sauce is the best in my opinion. Orders usually take about 10 min to make so if you are taking out i would definitely recommend to call in advance. Nothing but good things to say about this place. Gotta stop by at least once when you are down the shore.

Very helpful and pleasant staff. Food is generally good, reliable and somewhat healthy. Fish is frequently over cooked. Would recommend more menu options without cheese. You might want to ask about seasonal specials before ordering over the phone. Many good options there.

We drove by today and tried the shrimp and surf tacos. They were more than amazing and the sauces made them even better. Keep up the good work. We’ll be back when in town for sure.

What is wrong with the other reviewers? Must be teens rating this place highly. The surf tacos were horrible! We couldn’t tell the difference between the fish and the flour taco shell. $ 31 for 6 tacos! And I thought Taco Bell was bad!

After hearing from several friends about this place we decided to give it a try. It was good we enjoyed the fresh chips and salsa, and the tacos and burrito were very good too We will be eating here again.

I order the grilled Mahi tacos. And you should too. They have an interesting taste(with chunks of pineapple included) and come on a soft white taco bed. The fish has always tasted fresh, and the slices of avocado in addition to the blackening combine for good eats. Surf Taco offers various home-made hot sauces and salsas, as well as a wonderful soda machine that stocks non-traditional flavors(I can’t get enough of Coke Lime). If you’re in the Squan, check this place out.

Yummy and dog friendly on the patio. Good place for vegetarians. They need more help in the busy season or you end up waiting a while for your food.

The wait can be infuriating on a weekend evening. When the food is good, it is really good, but sometimes on a busy night it comes out and the chicken is over cooked, the cheese is not totally melted, and you just waited 45 minutes for mediocre Mexican fast food. That can be frustrating. 4 stars when it’s great, 2 when it falls flat, 3 for inconsistency.

While staying in Manasquan. NJ on a weekend getaway, we needed a quick snack because our friends who just arrived from the city were starving for lunch. My friend, who is from New Jersey knew of Surf Taco and recommended that be the place for our mid-afternoon snack before our dinner later. We were absolutely starving when we arrived and the place didn’t look super busy. When we placed our order, the cashier mentioned that they were catering for an event and that our order would take about a half hour and asked if we were ok with that. We were ok with a half hour wait, and placed our order. My boyfriend and I both ordered 2 types of tacos and decided to forgo the combo platter which included beans, a drink, and chips. However, our friends ordered the combo platter. One would think that if you are ordering a platter that comes with chips, and you are told that you have to wait a half hour for your food, that the cashier would supply you with your chips upon ordering so that you could snack on them and use the salsa bar while waiting. No such luck here! Luckily, we were given our cups to fill up with soda while we waited. Surf Taco has one of those awesome movie theater style soda machines where you can pick between many flavors of soda and brands with a touch of a button. Unfortunately, they were out of all the fun flavors and we were stuck with orange or vanilla. They definitely needed to check on the machine and fill it up with the missing flavors! It seemed very neglected. We sat down on the outdoor patio, and started to wait for our food. The clock kept ticking and ticking and ticking, until about an hour went by and no sign of our food. As I was about to stand up and check on what the hell was going on with our food, it finally arrived! For the time our tacos took to come out, they better be damn good. When my boyfriend and my order arrived, we noticed that it came with chips, even without ordering the combination! We all found this misleading, since the only reason my friend ordered the combo was for the chips! They also should have given us these chips while we were waiting for that whole hour! I ordered one garlic shrimp taco and one mahi taco. The garlic shrimp taco was supposed to be sauteed with garlic and topped with shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, cilantro sauce, and lime juice. I didn’t taste even a hint of garlic on the shrimp, pretty disappointing! The Mahi Taco was blackened Mahi Mahi, topped with avocado lime sauce, shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, slice of fresh avocado, chopped pineapple, and lime juice in a double corn tortilla. I can’t say I tasted all those flavors in this taco either. It was not that exciting and I think I could have had better at Taco Bell. Traditionally Tacos are naturally flavorful with mixtures of ingredients, sauces, and textures, but these tacos definitely lacked that excitement. I understand that the restaurant was catering an event, but they should have either had more staff on that day to make sure the customers in the store were served in a timely matter or they should have closed the store that day. I think they definitely need to work on time management of preparing food for an event and having store business at the same time. All in all, we all felt like our tacos were prepared half-assed because of the event, and for the time they took, it was so nice not worth it.

For the price and speed, this is as five star as it gets! We almost went back the next day but were not yet hungry after breakfast. The vegetables and preparations are very fresh and the combinations of flavors are not unheard of yet creative for fast food and perfectly balanced. The baja surf taco and garlic shrimp taco were both delicious. Presentation was surprisingly great for fast food. The fresh guacamole side order was a nice touch, but not entirely necessary because the baja medium salsa on the free salsa bar was a great fresh compliment to the tacos. I don’t eat tortillas, and three tacos without the shells filles me up. They have the newest fountain machine with all possible soda flavors. I’ll be back each time I am at the shore. I am excited that there are a few locations.

Its hard to express how much i Love surf Taco. Its fast food but you could not tell by the freshness or the quality. when i had a week long house rental one summer in Pt Pleasant i ate at surf taco at least 3 times. Then a year later me and my fiancé went there and i told her to get the basic surf taco(white fish) and she instantly fell in love. you cant go wrong with anything on their large menu. If you visit the Jersey Shore Surf Taco NEEDS to be on your list of places to eat.

Within the last few weekends, I have crushed numerous Surf Taco burritos and enjoyed all of them each and every time. The prices are fine and go along with what you’d get from Chipotle or Qdoba. The selection is much better than anything you’d find in those places though. In the past I have crushed their Buffalo Calamari($ 8.95) and loved it. It provided just the right amount of heat with a very good tasting squid. As far as the tacos, they are deceiving and can be expensive for what you get. I have been happy with the taste and they are delicious, but if you’re trying to get bang for your buck, hit the burritos. Surf Burrito. That’s where it’s at. I always add the guacamole on the inside, which provides a nice creamy taste with the crunch of the fried fish inside of my burrito. The other burrito that I and my friends often crush is the Buffalo Soldier, which is a typical buffalo sandwich inside of a burrito instead. Awesome as well. I haven’t gone wrong at Surf Taco and when I’m hungover on my way home, it’s always an option for the ride home. Nothing is better than driving with one hand on the wheel, one hand wrapped around a Surf Burrito, and thinking about how hard I’m going to sleep this hangover off when I get back home.

I absolutely love Surf Taco and always stop by for a bite when I’m down the shore. The tacos here remind me of taco shops in Costa Rica — fresh and not greasy! I usually order the Combo #2(2 tacos, rice, beans and tortilla chips). My favorite tacos are the Mahi Mahi(blackened and grilled with avocado line sauce, cabbage, Pico de Gallo, fresh avocado and pineapple) and Garlic Shrimp(shrimp, garlic, cabbage, Pico de Gallo and white cilantro sauce). There is a salsa bar and you can get a variety of sauces — my favorite is the salsa verde. The Squan location also has a really cool Coca Cola machine… it’s touch screen and it has soda options and sub-options. Maybe this machine has been around a while but it was new to me. Also, this location was not as crowded as Belmar and not really that much further away.

AMAZING!!! Such awesomeness. Was scared a little since it is chain, they have like 10. When a restaurant reaches that point usually the food sucks. Not here. Great stuff. It’s so hip looking in and out and the food is beyond hip. Menu is all based on fresh tacos, and they’re FRESH! The fish taco with tempura cod, cabbage, cilantro, good stuff. And that garlic shrimp taco with the guacamole and pico, wow. Great stuff. Place has a typical Jersey beach look but clean and a tad less touristy. Also the staff is smart, friendly, and on top of it. Only reason I gave em’ four stars instead of 5 is because the bathroom door wouldn’t lock and had to have my wife guard the door so I could, well, use it!!! Fix your bathroom. But seriously go. Way better than the garbage on the boardwalks.
