Virginia Dance Center

I found this place through their website, which advertised a «Beginner Adult» tap class. I drove the 45 minutes and signed up, paying both the initiation fee, and the monthly fee in advance. When I got to the first class, it was 5 teenagers and myself, the only adult. The 5 teenagers were all in their second year of tap, I was the only beginner. I managed to hang on for 8 weeks, but finally gave up last night when a substitute instructor completely lost me, and ignored me as I stood there helplessly watching the other students perform complex combinations. Even the regular instructor, who is very nice, didn’t really teach the class, so much as just go through the exercises at the front of the classroom and expect everyone to follow. No special help was given to anyone (me) who was having trouble trying to learn the steps. I have been able to learn MUCH more online for free by watching YouTube videos. I would not waste your time or money on this place.

I have danced for a long time and this is one of the best studios I have come across. I have taken classes with Liz, Lisa, and Renata and all of them have been phenomenal. I look forward to going to dance every week and the staff is excellent!

My daughter has been happily dancing at VDC for 5 years. She was a «late» beginner at 11, and chose the studio herself. Because the teachers are supportive of dancers at all stages of development she never felt discouraged when she had to work a bit harder to master techniques that the other dancers had been practicing for years. In the time she has danced at VDC she has developed the confidence that comes with mastering skills, achieving goals, and working with others as a team. As a parent, that was my goal for her, and I think VDC has been a great place to nurture that. In addition to the dance teachers, the front desk staff is friendly, professional, hard working, and a pleasure to work with as well. Every year I ask my daughter if she wants to change studios; the answer is always the same «I love it at VDC!»

This is simply an outstanding studio. Very professional yet fun teachers. They take things seriously but they don’t pressure the students into stressing themselves out over competitions, makeup, etc. Their annual recital is very well done and a pleasure to watch.
The teachers are top notch. One is a former Rockette; all are very experienced.
