Good bagels, good coffee, good service. We ate here on a Tuesday morning, and the crowd was moderately sized. However, staff was ready for our order before we had selected from the menu. Their coffee is some of the best I’ve tasted in Vermont. Parking is a little tight, but this wasn’t a problem for our motorcycles.

Just thinking about those bagels makes me want one. In fact I had to erase what I just wrote because it wasn’t even a coherent sentence. I highly recommend a visit! My boyfriends parents recommended a stop here on our way to the Adirondacks. By the time I was done with my bagel sandwich I was licking the cheese off my wrapper and eyeing my boyfriend’s. The bagels were the perfect amount of soft crunch and chewy after they came out of the toaster oven; so fresh and delicious. And some which I learned are«the works» bagels have their topping on both sides of the bagel! Even though the sandwich was slightly greasy from the cheese it was delicious and satisfying with spinach and egg. We visit here on vacation and will remember to come back!

I wish I wasn’t writing this but feel the need as this place is a mess. We ordered bagels for the day after brunch after our wedding. First, we called a week and a half before the wedding to order. They said call two days before the day to order. Great. We called back and made the order. Done. Then we get a call back from the manager the next day to complain to us that we used a credit card to place the order because«we don’t want our employees taking credit cards over the phone.» Well, then don’t take the order or talk to your employees. Customer service award. Then, come day of, they were over an hour late delivering the order. We had 50 people in our house with no bagels. People were hungry. People left. This was a wedding. We tried to call. We couldn’t get them on the phone. We sent someone to ask about what had happened. Finally we got through and then said, «sorry man, we’re shorthanded.» No, not sorry man. Do your job. If you’re that late for that size of an order eat it and don’t charge us. Hope whoever owns this place reads this. This is not how your run a business.

Cordial, friendly service. I’d recommend their fudge brownie, which was moist, super-fudgey, but not overpoweringly sweet. Iced coffee was also great, especially since they offered Hazelnut as one of the basic iced coffee options. The only downside was that they didn’t offer simple syrup for iced coffee! Their baked goods looked delicious, so I’d like to go back to check out their lunch options. The other reason why I gave a 3-star rating was the fact that there was a layer of haze or smoke(not from smoking though!) in the air. It was very toasty and warm, so perhaps it was just poor ventilation from the bread-baking. I will probably return, but just to pick up food next time.

The Works(Bakery Café) seems to be part of a larger chain, but since I’m not from the area this was the first one I have seen. They had a lot of franchising information at the counter so perhaps they are expanding in that area. Typical bagel sandwich café. You can get an assortment of bagels, and breakfast and lunch sandwiches. They also offer coffees and smoothies. I enjoyed my breakfast sandwich, and my boyfriend enjoyed his salmon lunch bagel sandwich. The coffee, although they only had 1 flavor, was very good too. They reminded me of a Bruegger’s Bagel or Finagle a Bagel. Prices were a little steep, but I got the impression everything in downtown Manchester, VT was a little more than I would pay in the Boston area. The place had quick and friendly service, and was a nice place to sit and eat. If you’re craving a bagel, it’s a good spot to stop when you’re in the area.
