Very Good, Delicious Flavor Stopped in during a business trip for dinner at 9pm on a Monday. There was only one of the couple there at this time. The décor was very nice, asian themed décor with bright colors and decorations, and a large comfortable room. Golden Dragon is in a strip mall location. Friend wonton was brought to snack on before our meal. I ordered the Moo Shu Pork. Excellent! Best Moo Shoo I have had in years. This is a favorite dish of mine but so many places these days cut the pork and veggies in large uneven sizes and it can be too oily, but this was really excellent. The scallions and carrots were julienned perfectly and the pork very thin, tender strips. So all the ingredients were a consistent size and cooked evenly, and each bites had tender pork and just barely crisp veggies. As typical, comes with 4 pancake wraps. The wraps were very thin and steamed just right, which made them easy to roll after filling, and easy to bite through. The flavors were wonderful. They brought a very large portion, as most places do, so there is far too much for just 4 pancakes, but you get a side of steamed or fried rice you can use with the remainder. Have to confess, I ate the whole meal with no leftovers. The price was inexpensive and I ate for $ 11 including tax. The only thing I did not particularly enjoy with this meal was the friend wonton strips were not very crisp. They were a bit oily for me. I would certainly go back to Golden Dragon again. Half way through the meal, I watched a mouse run across the floor from under the table behind my us into a space under the seats across the aisle. Kinda ruined my taste for the food. Won’t be back.

Decent food. Was fast to get to our table. Service wasn’t up to par. Was rushed and impersonal. Didn’t have our water refilled until the end when we were already ready to leave. I don’t think I’ll go again.

Worst Chinese food anywhere. Threw away $ 40 worth. All inedible. I would have rather gone to McDonald’s as at least there I know I’m getting garbage.

Not a fan the food was not good and the service was very slow and cold. Everything either stale or overcooked.

As a transplant from NJ/NY I long for dim sum. After finding them on Unilocal I came to check it out. It’s a cute mom and pop restaurant that you don’t really see nowadays. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Food is as close to home as I can get. The shrimp shumai is very good. They have even have Chinese broccoli and chrysanthemum tea! Lots of little details such as lemon infused ice water and orange slices for dessert instead of fortune cookies.

Get a peking duck here if you can get it for special price. Otherwise it’s overpriced. Few other dishes are ok, but nothing stood out. Service is horrible. When we complained about the taste of one dish(it was triple delight and it was nasty) we were accused of trying to take a dish off our check because we ordered too much. The bus boys are rude, they drip water all over the place and confuse food when it comes out. The tables are not thoroughly clean. Steer clear of this place and go for noodle place instead.

This review is for their catering service and I thought it would be helpful since I had the most awful time finding a chinese wedding caterer for my wedding. Thaun is the catering manager and he pretty much knows his stuff. You can tell that he’s very much experienced in chinese style banquet weddings. He also puts a lot of thought in the meanings of the dishes(what has to be served, it what order, etc.). He seems to be forgetful at times bc he’s pretty much booked all year round but his staff and services could not have run any smoother the day of the wedding. I’m very much happy with his services and I hope this review will help others find him as well.

Went here recently and tried the dim sum. Horrible. Their dishes were all mostly precooked from a frozen package, and tasted disgusting. Never coming here again. ALSOBEWAREOFTHEBATHROOM!

We had an great meal and excellent service. Our waiter was delightful. My husband ordered the Roast Pork Egg Foo young, and said it was one of the best he has ever had. Scorpion Bowls were delicious.

Food took over an hour and one of the main entrees was missing. Food was cold and the soda was warm. Spent 10 minutes on the phone with the driver who couldn’t understand me and went the wrong way on a one way street. Over priced and portions were small. Food was not great. Will never order here again

Whenever I’m on business in the Hartford area I make it a point to stop in and have dinner at The Golden Dragon. The drink list is extensive, and the large dinner menu is full of old favorites ensuring everyone will find something to enjoy.

I have been to this restaurant many times and the food and service were outstanding. I had the hot and sour seafood soup(which was amazing) and the lobster in ginger sauce(best lobster I have ever had.) I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to eat in the Manchester area.

Went here for the dim sum. Not a lot of people know about the dim sum they offer, but it’s worth a visit or two. I’m Chinese, so I was able to communicate better than most, the people were nice.(although I may be biased.) Food was alright. there are better places you can go though.

The décor of this place was just magnificent! Once I walked in, the bright lights and the aquarium instantly drew me into the place. Everything is pretty much neon blue colored, so if you have sensitive eyes… maybe you should avoid this place due to the colors or just wear sunglasses. I did notice the employees here are more on the older side, so I assume this restaurant was probably old. While other restaurants are popping up, this is one of those restaurants probably decaying from lack of innovation. Their menus definitely need to be updated with dishes that are more current and something to appeal to the younger generation. I ordered a dinner combination. No Gen Tso’s chicken on there so I ordered a Pepper Steak. The meats, peppers, and onions were flavorful in a brown sauce… but the sauce kind of felt really heavy to my stomach. Thank god Planet Fitness is nearby. The hot and sour soup that came with it needs to be spicier.

We found a cockroach in our rice! I wish I could give this place a negative rating! Even the waiter was rude.

Beware of the Beef and Eggplant dish… The plate was mostly eggplant drowning in grease. There was only a couple of pieces of beef. I do not have a sensitive stomach, but I was not able to finish it. Honestly, I don’t think I will be able to touch the leftovers today. Though I did not like my dish, my fiancé’s moo shu was excellent. We ordered both of our plates from the Mandarin’s Dishes section; for $ 13.95, you get choice of soup, a trio of fried stuff, an entrée, and a choice of dessert. For our dessert, Jason M and I ordered the pineapple, which was canned and tasted like it had expired. Thank goodness we did not order the ice cream. Expired ice cream would have been a lot worse to fathom. The redeeming value was our Scorpion Bowl, which was mostly liquor and satisfying enough for three college students with fake IDs… lol!

Golden Dragon is a quirky, mixed bag, sometimes the food is so excellent, I feel(almost) as if I am back in Brooklyn in the 50s, eating Chinese food with my family. From the goofy Chinese new year décor to the aromatic, moist, fresh, attractively presented food — this restaurant is a time trip. Upon being seated, your table will be served a little dish of duck sauce and a bowl of crunchy Chinese noodles to munch on along with a silver pot of hot oolong tea that can be refilled upon request. Meals arrive very quickly, lovingly garnished and flavorful, served up — sometimes with great flourish by your wait staff — depending on their mood! The first time we ate at Golden Dragon, we couldn’t believe our good luck finding such a terrific restaurant on the edge of a strip mall on the outskirts of Manchester, CT. But then came the dark times — the last few years, there are visits we are made to feel that he staff wishes we would go far far away… The host will barely look upon our eager visage, the head waiter will show us to our table as if his arm is being twisted. The wait staff may not show up for a while or might come very very quickly and then not have much patience if we’re not instantly ready with our order. Someone touched on the fact that this is an aging restaurant and I think that could be the problem. I know sometimes we elder persons get ornery, lose patience. Sometimes by 7 or 8 we wish everyone would go the hell home. We’re tired and we’d like to go to bed now. This attitude can be obvious and offputting if you’re not in the mood to be amused by a tired/moody host and wait staff. Then there’s all that tiki torchy red red red happy happy new year décor that is is not so happy and not so new. It is old and sad and faded and dusty. Golden Dragon is desperately in need of shot of B12 and a day or two of gentle cleansing and beautification, maybe a fresh paint job, certainly taking down and washing the ancient curtains, steamcleaning the carpets and especially power washing/disinfecting the bathrooms. NOTE: The ladies room is darkish and distressing and smells that way. All of this drives home there’s not so much happyhappy going on, except half the time the food is surprisingly fantastic! But then there are those times the food is lackluster and devoid of personality or intensity — like Chinese food in black and white. Not«unfresh» or evil, but prepared with no enthusiasm for flavor whatsoever. So along with tired surroundings/staff, should both these unfortunate dynamics be your lot on your visit, you’ll probably wish you hadn’t bothered hauling butt into your car and instead kicked off your shoes and ordered from your usual home delivered hellhole. I will reiterate: when Golden Dragon is on, they’re SPOTON. But when they’re not, they’re definitely not. Within five seconds of entering, the staff will mindmeld with you to let you know whether or not they are in the mood for you and your order. Prepare yourself. In conclusion: I’m hoping they get their act together and don’t further slide into the doldrums because we do like, sometimes love their food, even when everyone serving it is terribly, utterly crotchety. GDPETPEEVES: 1. You have to ask for hot mustard, even if you order a dish that cries out for it, like egg foo young. They have already prepared little condiment dishes filled with mustard but don’t offer them to you. You must remember to remember to ask. 2. The duck sauce is watered down to the consistency of duck syrup. 3. You must specify when you would like your eggrolls served otherwise they will be served as an appetizer, before the main course. Probably to fill you up and get you out sooner.

Golden Dragon is an aging restaurant with aging waiters, located in an aging strip mall, offering it’s aging menu to an aging population… It pains me to say all that, mind you. I long for the days of my childhood, walking into an establishment like this with my parents, sitting in the pleather booths, overhearing the melodic rhythms of strange oriental instruments, ordering whatever Americanized crap food our hearts and arteries desired. Restaurants all over the country such as this one once teemed with hungry patrons. But now Golden Dragon(and it’s many cousins) lie painfully fallow, collecting an all too noticeable layer of Kung Pao Dust. What’s left is now a white elephant, giving way to the unspeakable horrors of P.F. Chang and his cookie-cutter restaurant cronies. The food is very good, and it’s quite cheap as well. I can only assume they keep their business afloat with take out orders. But the experience that surrounds the food is personally depressing, inducing long bouts of painful reflection. I think I’ve waxed poetic long enough…

Get food, to go from this place only at emergency times. Not that great quality of food, taste is below average & the staff cannot understand what we order. However the portions are v.huge. A small will easily feed two n the big for three to four. They do not add enough veggies for any veggie meal, anyways prices are affordable: D makes no sense rite ;)
