This is a popular gem — hot tasty family food and grandma style pies, the kind of place locals support and passers by are sometimes lucky enough to find. Breakfast all day, reasonable prices, and waitresses getting a workout while working their asses off.

This is one of the strangest restaurants I have ever been in. A box on a hill, overlooking the highway, the supposedly-German family restaurant has prints of French cafes and Italian bakeries on the walls, painted one nasty color of green on the one side and one strange color of red on the other with ‘70s retro booths and chairs upholstered in swirling grey in between. Then there is the gift shop featuring the most bizarre collection of Bowie knives, baseball cards, collectible coins, snap-back caps, and power tools. And etc. But you didn’t come here for the décor nor the gifts, did you? Eat. Food. Order the German food. Order the steak. Order the cauliflower, it is delicious! The pies looked a little tired. So we skipped dessert. But when we saw the towering parfait glasses at the next table, we wished that we had ordered root beer floats or parfaits! We ate hearty and spent $ 25 on a dinner for two. No beers, though. This is a family restaurant, after all. We would definitely come here again. Maybe for breakfast next time.

Everything I ordered was delicious. All my coworkers recommended this place when I moved here… Now I know why! Knoephla soup is super creamy; noodles fresh and cooked to point. German burger is juicy and flavorful– with just the right amount of sauerkraut. The chips are made fresh in house… Oh soo good. Giant slice of pumpkin pie to end the meal. I’m stuffed and didn’t break my wallet. Only problems was with my beverage– no carbonation– but they went to fix it right away. Superb food and service. I’ll definitely be back for more.

This place is the best kept secret in Mandan! If you like German food, or just want a hearty delicious breakfast, you will love Frieds! My friend ordered the Schoop Noodles & Sausage and it was delicious. I got Fleischkuechle; it was amazing. We liked the place so much that we came back for breakfast the next day and got Caramel Apple Stuffed French Toast. It was perfect! Frieds has a huge menu of daily specials in three categories: Breakfast specials(served all day), German specials, and everything else. The staff at Frieds is just what you’d expect from a family restaurant. Very friendly and genuine. Our server was extremely helpful, and made our experience very enjoyable. It’s that good old family diner feel. Everything I tried off the menu was delicious. The food is great. The prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is fun and family-friendly. The staff is superb. Frieds is definitely worth going out of your way to experience!

I have nothing negative to say. Service was good, food was tasty and the price was not bad. Nothing really knocked me off my seat. The soup was decent. The pork chops were quite thin but very tasty. The bakery items look real good but I didn’t try them. Not a bad place all in all.
