I have been coming here for 30 years and it’s as good now as it was then. I can’t imagine a better sno ball place. The line can get a little long, but that’s because how good it is.

As far as I’m concerned, Papa Sam is as much a Mandeville staple as the lakefront. It’s not the most convenient snowball stand — the wait may last up to 15 minutes during its busy hours. And a few times I’ve received snowballs whose inside consisted of white ice. But honestly, I don’t care. You don’t go to Papa Sams for the service. You go to Papa Sams for the experience. The days I spent after school & during the summer sitting on the picnic tables laughing with my friends were a great part of my youth. I promise I didn’t write this review to get nostalgic. I don’t live in Mandeville anymore, but when I do visit I’m sure to stop by Papa Sams, which is still exactly how I remember it.

I’ve been coming to Papa Sam’s for 14 years now. On a hot summer day, there really isn’t anything better. Snowballs start at around a buck and go up to close a whopping three. They have tons of flavors and toppings. A fun option– get it «stuffed» with the ice cream in the center of the snowballs. Delicious! Tips: — go for a flat top! — CASHONLY

It’s not too often that I get to visit the North Shore any more, so when we found ourselves cruising home, we opted to stop at Papa Sams snowball stand on the recommendation of a family member; who shall remain nameless since it wasn’t the greatest. However, I will give her props for referring something I could Unilocal about. The stand was easy to get to and there was even outdoor seating with large beach umbrella covered tables. My better half opted to get a «strawberry shortcake» flavored snowball and I took my obligatory taste for Unilocal purposes. However, the ice was not too smooth, and the syrup tasted very synthetic. I’m guessing if this is all you know, then it’s ok. But in the«land of snowballs» known as New Orleans, there are far too many better spots. I’m not bashing this place. It’s just not for me.
